Chapter 389: Unmanageable Situation
Mingxiao lowered the tip of his knife, putting it down. He had promised Caesar that he would never point his knife at him again and would always stand by his side. He knew it was a game, and he had told him it was just a game.
Even though they had already sensed something was amiss, and even though the suspicion that had made them all wary and fearful had already spread through their consciousness network.
Mingxiao still wanted to deceive herself for a moment.
"Tomorrow!"
The Bai Yans, who had already died and logged off, all took off their holographic gaming gear and stood in front of Ming Xiao, seeing his game scene through the external connection.
Seeing Mingxiao lower his knife in the face of Caesar, who had revealed his true form, Heiyao grabbed his arm. "Mingxiao, what are you doing? Are you crazy! Caesar is... he's a heretic! He's a traitor!"
Mingxiao shoved Obsidian away, "No, how could Lord Vanguard be a traitor? You're talking nonsense!"
Having said that, Mingxiao stepped forward, but Caesar thrust the tip of his sword forward, stopping him from getting any closer.
"Lord Vanguard, you want to win this game, right? I'm on your side, we'll win together, and then..."
Mingxiao felt a sudden dryness in his throat. He reached out and grasped Caesar's sword, feeling the pain of the blade cutting his palm. "Then you can come back and apologize to His Highness, okay?"
"Mingxiao, don't be silly."
Tanvel's voice echoed in the consciousness network, "Caesar has already told us in this way that he is a heretic. What, do you want to stand on his side and become a heretic with him? Don't forget, you are His Highness's confidant, not his. Are you going to abandon His Highness?"
Tanwell's words instantly jolted Mingxiao awake.
He looked over Caesar's shoulder to see the small figure standing not far behind him.
"Your Highness..."
Mingxiao had never felt that so many things were on his mind. In just a few moments, thoughts and complex ideas flashed through his mind.
He couldn't believe that Caesar would become a heretic. Although a seed of suspicion had long been planted deep in his heart, he never thought about it deeply or paid attention to it. He always believed in Caesar unconditionally.
If it weren't for Caesar, he might have been just a second-class servant, not standing by the young prince's side, and wouldn't have the independent thinking he has now.
Mingxiao released his grip on Caesar's sword, then tightened his grip again. The sword spun gracefully in his hand, deflecting Caesar's blade, and he charged towards Caesar with lightning speed.
After a few rounds, Caesar severed the arm holding the sword, and used the tip of the blade to lift the man's chin. "I taught you your fighting skills, I raised you. Did I not teach you not to be soft-hearted towards your enemies?"
When Mingxiao heard the word "enemy," his heart skipped a beat.
"Vanguard Lord... Caesar!" Mingxiao gripped his sword with his intact hand, saying with immense emotion, "You cannot become our enemy, you..."
Caesar's blade pierced his throat.
"Player [Want to get close to AL], you have died. You can enter the game interface to recreate your character."
Mingxiao collapsed to the ground, took off her holographic glasses, and threw them aside.
You are my vanguard sir...
Anno looked at Caesar, who had his back to them. It was daytime in the game, and the sun was blazing, but the light shining on him offered no warmth.
His silver hair hung down his back, like snow.
Not long ago, they had been communicating, and he, as usual, joked with her, revealing some of his ulterior motives.
His change was so sudden, yet it had been brewing for a long time.
Caesar turned around, his long sword dripping with blood.
He used a game-like approach, a different kind of bloodstained kinship, to slowly raise his knife towards Sitar.
The moment his blade was pointed at Sitar, Anno shouted at him, "Caesar!"
Caesar's eyes flickered, and he paused slightly, but he still dared not look at her.
He still pointed the knife at Sitar.
This was his choice. He was a soldier, and for whatever reason, he didn't want to shrink himself away.
One king will never live under the rule of another.
The moment he raised his knife, Karina, who was beside Anno, leaped and attacked Caesar.
All that could be seen was a blinding flash of silver light, followed by a crisp sound, as Caesar's sword was severed by Karina.
"You shouldn't have raised the knife in front of her."
Karina stared at him coldly with her crimson eyes.
"Caesar, you hurt her feelings. She likes you so much."
Before Caesar could even process the meaning of Karina's words, he was met with a barrage of attacks from her.
Caesar was able to kill all of Bai Yan and his group, but Karina was able to fight him to a standstill.
He hadn't forgotten that Karina longed to become His Highness's consort.
He calmly parried her attack, even with a broken sword, and fought back without panicking.
The two figures almost turned into afterimages. Anno looked down at the knife in his hand, his grip tightening.
She gave a bitter smile: "Caesar, you've gone too far with this game."
The situation has become unmanageable.
