Chapter 508: Welcome Back
When will His Highness be back?
On the plain outside the palace, Mingxiao sat on Mao Mao's head with his legs apart, resting his chin on his hand listlessly, and muttered weakly, "We haven't seen the little prince for ten years, and we haven't seen the vanguard for ten years."
He felt like he had grown weeds over the past ten years. Before, he had the Vanguard Lord to play with, but now even the Vanguard Lord had fallen into the abyss and was asleep.
Only the King Insect can enter the temple, and since the young prince is not connected to the consciousness network, Mingxiao and the others can only look longingly in the direction of the temple.
Obsidian, standing beside him, also sighed. He corrected Mingxiao, saying, "Mingxiao, I've said it for the 125th time. Caesar is now a King Worm, not a Vanguard."
Mingxiao: "I'm already used to calling him that, it's hard to change it all at once. You guys think that once Prince Sitar and Vanguard come out, our generation of Zerg will have two male Zerg Kings. With such strong genes, the next generation will definitely have two Queen Zergs as well."
The other members of the family turned to look at Mingxiao. Baiyan said leisurely, "Let's not talk about the next generation. Let's see how these two male insect kings get along with the little prince first."
Two male insect kings—just thinking about it sends chills down their spines; it's a disaster.
They were chatting idly when a portal opened in front of them, and Caesar stepped out.
"Lord Vanguard!"
Mingxiao jumped down from Mao Mao's head and ran happily to Caesar. "Vanguard, how come you came out of the abyss so quickly? I thought you were going to sleep for a long time."
Caesar ruffled Mingxiao's hair. "Her Majesty has woken me up. We have important business to attend to."
The others stepped forward, bowed to Caesar, and were about to call him Your Highness when he stopped them with a gesture of his hand. "No need," he said, "just call me as before. I am still the vanguard of the Zerg."
Upon hearing this, Bai Yan and the others exchanged bewildered glances. What did he mean by that?
Caesar is now the undisputed King of Insects. Although he was transformed halfway through his life, the core within his body exudes the aura of a King Insect, which is undeniable. Therefore, he is His Highness the King Insect.
He, however, claimed that he was still a vanguard of the Zerg.
They all fell silent, even Mingxiao wore a surprised expression.
This statement was not made lightly. Now, Caesar and Sitar are likely to fight for the possible sole position of the Zerg King, but Caesar says he is still the vanguard of the Zerg.
Tanvel, who had arrived from behind, had already quickly received the thoughts and ideas of his followers in his consciousness network. Although they didn't speak, their consciousnesses were quite noisy.
"Caesar, welcome back."
Tanville broke the silence, stepped forward and placed his hand on Caesar's shoulder. Caesar smiled and placed his hand on Tanville's shoulder in return.
While others were unsure of what he was saying, Tanville understood everything, and thus felt a deep respect for Caesar.
Tanville asked, "Is there anything we can do?"
Now that he's back as his vanguard, he has the right to command them.
After he finished asking the question, Caesar severed the connection to the consciousness network. The severance was so swift and obvious that everyone looked at him in bewilderment.
Caesar didn't speak, but simply raised his chin at them. Tanville was the first to react and also severed his consciousness network, followed by Mingxiao, and then the others also realized what was happening and severed their consciousness networks one by one.
Now, they can no longer communicate through consciousness.
Caesar then addressed them, saying, "Her Majesty the Queen has ordered the capture of the Shadow Zerg, alive."
Upon hearing this order, Mingxiao and the others immediately became serious.
No wonder Caesar severed the connection to the consciousness network; he was worried that the Shadow Zerg would infiltrate their consciousness network and steal their information.
The Shadow Zerg had already secretly entered the palace in the past, which means they could connect to their consciousness network, but it was difficult for them to detect it.
Although the two races have been different since the beginning of time, they are both insectoids and are similar in their roots.
The Shadow Zerg have been very active lately, darting around on their outer defenses. They've tried to track them down, but each time they do, their figures mysteriously disappear after a while.
They had never faced the Shadow Insects head-on, so they knew nothing about them. In the few times they had launched sneak attacks, they had only seen their form, which was not much different from the Shadow Insects passed down from their ancestors.
As for their technology, they really knew nothing about it, which put them in a very passive position.
Right now, we can only capture one alive first.
After speaking with them, Caesar opened a portal to the outer defense base. Mingxiao and the others entered the portal one after another. Tanville was the last to enter. Before going in, he asked Caesar, who was standing to the side, "Did you come out to see the little prince?"
Caesar smiled and said, "Your Highness is in the temple now, which is not a place I can go."
Tanville patted him on the shoulder again. "You're back. That's good."
The return here does not refer to Caesar's return from the abyss, but rather to the true him standing here once more.
Seeing that they had all entered the portal, Caesar did not follow them in. Instead, he closed the portal and opened a new one.
"Huh? Where's Lord Vanguard? Why didn't he come with us?"
Mingxiao turned around in confusion, but the portal had already disappeared.
Tanville clicked his tongue. He had spoken too soon. Caesar was still Caesar, just not as fanatical as he had been during the period immediately after his conversion.
"No rush, he'll appear in two more minutes."
As Tanvel said, Caesar did appear two minutes later, thrown out of the portal.
Seeing Caesar roll around on the ground in a sorry state, and the others looking ashamed, Mingxiao quickly stepped forward to help him up. "Vanguard, who threw you out?"
Caesar: "...The Dark Light Queen."
Mingxiao's eyes widened. "Vanguard Lord, you...you went to see the young prince?"
Caesar gave him a look, what else could he do?
Mingxiao asked excitedly, "Then, Vanguard Lord, have you seen the young prince?"
Caesar is now the King Insect, and he's the only one among them who can enter the temple.
Caesar said leisurely, "I saw it once."
He paused for a moment, then added, "The little prince is very cute now."
After hearing this, the others all looked at him.
"Lord Vanguard, let me take a look," Mingxiao said, moving closer to him.
Caesar pushed his head aside. "No, until we capture the Shadow Zerg, and unless there are special circumstances, none of you can connect to the consciousness network, understand?"
Mingxiao felt a little disappointed.
Anno stayed at the temple for a long time, during which she ate and slept with the Darklight Queen. In the past, the temple only had cold, tall statues, but now, because of Anno's stay, it has become more lively than the Zerg had been before.
They set up a room for her on one side of the temple, with a comfortable bed and all her belongings.
The temple was enormous, with giant pillars supporting its high ceiling. Anno could see a fantastical scene outside, like a starry sky, from his bed.
The wandering, glowing creatures formed a magnificent star map in the dark, boundless space, which Anno could often gaze at for a long time.
However, usually the Dark Light Queen would hold her while they watched the stars together. The Dark Light Queen would accompany her to look at the stars while telling her about the Zerg's history and analyzing the characteristics of various Zerg creatures.
Although the knowledge of the Zerg can be directly inherited through consciousness, one still needs to actively select some information from this massive amount of data. It is impossible for everything to enter the brain, as the consciousness would not be able to handle so much information.
Anno listened intently, and soon became sleepy. He yawned, found a comfortable angle in the Dark Light Queen's arms, and fell asleep against her.
The Dark Light Queen patted her gently and watched her fall asleep quickly. She then pinched her chubby cheeks lightly and thought to herself that Anunu was much easier to take care of than Seville.
She had barely finished thinking that when she heard Sevier's voice in her mind, "Mother, I heard you."
Darklight said, "I'm telling the truth."
As a child, Seville was stubborn and rebellious. She also had to support the entire Zerg race. For the sake of the Zerg race's future, she couldn't hold her in her arms like Anunu did.
"Mother, when will you give Anunu back to me?"
Sevier didn't want to bring up the past with Darklight anymore. Deep down, she actually admired her mother immensely and was grateful for her strict upbringing. If it weren't for that, she probably wouldn't have been able to lead the Zerg to where it is today, nor would she have been able to provide Anunu with a more solid support.
"She can go out whenever she wants."
As she spoke, she embraced Anunu and entered the dream together, where she would continue to guide Anunu's consciousness.
Recently, her dreams have been gradually decreasing, and she is being able to gradually relax her consciousness.
However, Anno had another dream this time. She dreamt that she was deep in a glowing forest, where various glowing creatures roamed. Soon after, black rain began to fall from the sky, and the creatures scrambled to avoid it. Once they got covered in the black rain, their glow immediately dimmed.
Anno's feet were in thick black mud, and her body kept sinking. The more she struggled, the deeper she sank.
She had no choice but to stop, her eyes searching the forest, hoping someone could lend her a hand.
Suddenly, she saw several people kneeling and worshipping something not far ahead. They were incredibly devout and were speaking in a language she couldn't understand.
Those people had black and red patterns on their bodies, which looked mysterious and eerie, but for some reason, Anno felt that they looked a bit like insect patterns.
They also have horns on their heads similar to those of the Zerg, and they wear some ornaments on them.
Are these people also Zerg? Which branch are they? She doesn't think she's ever seen them before.
Feeling her body continue to sink, she opened her mouth and cried out.
Upon hearing the sound, the person in the middle suddenly stood up, and then they all turned to look at her.
