Chapter 505: Modern Era (If-Things) (33)
It was only early autumn in North Lothar, yet heavy snow had already fallen.
Anno spent three years at university here before gradually adapting to the climate; after all, she wanted to hibernate as soon as it got cold.
School is closed today, so she can take advantage of the fact that the temperature hasn't dropped below minus ten degrees Celsius to go outside for a walk and stroll around.
After the snow, her skateboard had been put away for several days, so she had to walk out of the campus and a short distance to the tram stop nearby to catch the tram.
As soon as she arrived at the tram stop, a tall figure was already waiting there. She quickened her pace and a smile unconsciously appeared on her face.
Huo Yin seemed to sense something and turned to look at her.
As he watched her run towards him, he instinctively opened his arms and pulled her into his embrace.
"Why did you come so early?" Anuo hugged him and rubbed against him, looking up at him from his arms.
Huo Yin looked down at her and said with a faint smile, "It's getting late. Your class was late today."
"Yes, the old professor talked to me for a long time. At first, we discussed today's topic, and then he invited me to his house for dinner. He said he could cook super delicious roast chicken and roast lamb chops."
At this point, Anno started to feel a little hungry.
Huo Yin stroked her hair, his eyes filled with her reflection. "You said yes to him?"
“Yes.” Anno nodded and smiled. “I can’t refuse his invitation. He’s invited me several times already. I can’t turn him down every time. But I told him I’ll bring a friend with me.”
Huo Yin gazed at her intently, a gentle smile playing on his lips. "Just friends?"
Anno wrapped her arms tightly around his waist. "What else could it be? But the old professor asked me again, 'What kind of friend are you?'"
Huo Yin followed up with her question, "What did you say?"
Anno said, "I said, it's my brother."
"elder brother?"
Huo Yin's smile deepened as he lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "This kind of brother?"
Anuo said slowly, "How do you know I'm talking about you? Maybe I'm talking about my third brother or my sixth brother?"
Her two older brothers are currently in North Rhodes, and Baroque is in the music department of the art college next door to her.
Huo Yin pretended to be deep in thought. "If you're not going to take me, then I'll just wait for you outside their house. I hope they don't notice there's a giant wolf outside and get attracted by the smell of their food."
Anno chuckled and pinched his cheek. "The Northern Lotes aren't afraid of any giant wolves; every household in their village carries a hunting rifle."
Huo Yin sighed softly, "Who told me to be a poor little dog left at home?"
Anno would always pet him while saying he was a poor little dog when he turned into a wolf.
"Alright, alright, I'll take you there, Brother Huo Yin."
Huo Yin then looked completely satisfied.
Just then, the tram stopped in front of them, and Huo Yin took her hand and boarded the tram.
As the tram pulled away, several tall figures appeared on the opposite side of the road. Their eyes followed the tram, watching the two people inside sitting together chatting and laughing. Obsidian pulled down the scarf that covered most of his face and pouted, saying, "Caesar is too lucky. He's with the little prince almost every day."
Tanville smiled and said, "It's because he can send clones everywhere, while we only have one."
Mingxiao sighed and said, "When will we be able to bring the young prince back? This place is so backward."
At this point, his eyes lit up as he looked at the pizza place across the street. "But the food here is so delicious!"
"Eat, eat, all you know is eating. We're here to take the young prince back."
Mingxiao said, "The young princess likes this place very much, and she also likes her current family very much. We can't take her back in a short time."
As he spoke, he looked at Obsidian and asked, "Obsidian, want to go get some pizza?"
Obsidian nodded vigorously, "Yes! I want durian pizza today!"
After saying that, the two happily headed towards the pizza shop ahead.
Tanwell and Baiyan exchanged a glance, then both shook their heads and sighed.
They found their little princess on this planet three years ago. They were overjoyed and wanted to take her back, but the little princess's consciousness resisted them and refused to connect with their consciousness network.
The only time I expressed my willingness was that I didn't want to go back with them for the time being.
When Her Majesty the Queen found out, she told them to stay on this planet with the little princess and let her do whatever she wanted.
The young prince didn't grow up among the Zerg, so he definitely can't accept them right away.
However, seeing Caesar's clone and the little prince spending every day together, their previously balanced mindset became unbalanced.
If His Highness treated all his relatives the same, that would be fine, but His Highness just happens to like Caesar's clone so much.
They didn't know how jealous they were of Caesar, but they also understood the price Caesar had paid to find the young prince.
In the evening, Anno went to the old professor's house for a dinner. The old professor's villa was near the suburbs. North Lotte was a vast and sparsely populated land. Every household here was a detached house with a large yard and surrounded by woods.
She knocked twice at the door and heard hurried footsteps approaching from inside.
The door opened, revealing a fair and handsome face.
The boy was delighted to see Anno's eyes light up. "Hi, hello."
Anno smiled and replied, "Hello."
After saying that, he handed over the gift in his hand.
The boy took the gift and his gaze fell on Huo Yin, who was standing behind her. Huo Yin glanced at him indifferently.
The old professor's voice rang out from inside, "Is that Nuo?"
"Yes, Grandpa."
The boy quickly came to his senses and stepped aside to let Anuo and Huo Yin in.
As soon as Anno entered, he enthusiastically introduced himself to her, saying that he was the professor's grandson, and Anno responded politely.
"Well, you've finally arrived." The old professor opened his arms to hug her happily. "Our dinner is ready just in time, you've come just in time."
Anno looked at the table full of food and smiled, "You can't be late when there's good food."
The old professor chuckled again, then pulled his grandson over and said, "This is my grandson, about your age. After seeing your picture, he's been clamoring to see you every day. That kid..."
At this point, the old professor noticed the imposing figure behind Anno and asked, "Nuo, is this your brother?"
Huo Yin stepped forward and shook hands with the old professor, "Hello Professor, I'm Anuo's..."
He and Anno exchanged a glance, then he continued, "Her brother."
Anuo pursed her lips, placed her hand behind Huo Yin's back and gently squeezed it, but Huo Yin grabbed her hand.
The professor's gaze darted back and forth between Anno and Huo Yin. "Brother?"
Why do the brothers wear matching couple outfits?
The old professor, being of advanced age, immediately noticed it and chuckled twice. "I know, you people from Dongwuzhou all like to call your partner 'brother' and 'sister'."
After being told that by the old professor, Anno coughed somewhat embarrassedly.
The boy standing nearby was heartbroken when he heard his grandfather say that.
He said, "How could such a beautiful girl be single? Her grandfather even assured him that she was busy with her studies every day, so how could she have a boyfriend?"
The old professor patted his grandson on the shoulder, "Don't be sad, you can still be friends with Nuo."
The grandson sadly ran his fingers through his hair, wishing he could add a prefix to the name of his friend.
At the dinner table, Anuo ate the fragrant roasted lamb chops attentively, while the professor kept talking to her about academic issues. She didn't get to say much; Huo Yin answered for her.
Her major was physics, and the professor was surprised by Huo Yin's expertise. He immediately turned the conversation to him and started discussing things with him. Huo Yin could answer any question, and in just one meal, the professor was very fond of him.
After dinner, the professor kept them for a long chat until it was getting late, at which point he reluctantly let them leave.
"Well, you're a really great older brother. Next time I make roasted lamb chops, I'll invite you guys again."
The professor saw them to the door and then showered Anno with praise.
After waving goodbye to the professor, Anno and Huo Yin strolled slowly along the street in the snow.
Anno put his arm around Huo Yin's waist and whispered jokingly, "I'm afraid the next time the professor wants to treat me to roast lamb chops, it's because he specifically invited you, and I'm just an afterthought."
Huo Yin put his arm around her and said softly, "How could that be? The professor praised me because of you. You are the best one."
Anno pinched his waist. "I've noticed you seem to be quite good at saying nice things lately, what's going on?"
Huo Yin raised an eyebrow and said to her earnestly and gently, "Everything I say to you is not just superficially nice; every word comes from the bottom of my heart. You are the best, no matter what."
Anuo kicked the snow off her feet, then stopped talking and simply took Huo Yin's hand and gripped it tightly.
“Let’s go to the river to look at the stars,” Anno suddenly said.
"good."
The riverbanks were brightly lit at night, with many North Lots barbecuing and drinking, and others night fishing.
Huo Yin bought two hot drinks, and he and Anuo nestled in the rocking chairs, each holding one.
Although the snow has stopped, the sky is still gray and there are hardly any stars to be seen.
Anno sensed their approach and leaned her head against Huo Yin's chest, saying, "Huo Yin, do you think a lifetime is long? For humans, life is only a few decades long. We age quickly, get sick, and experience separation."
Huo Yin gently stroked her soft hair and said, "For me, whether it's a life of decades or a life of days, what matters is not the length of life, but a certain moment in life. Just like now, in this moment, you are in my arms, and that's enough."
Anno lowered her eyes. "I'm a little scared. I'm scared that other people's lives are too short, and I'm scared that my own life is too long."
Huo Yin hugged her tighter. "No matter how long or short my life is, I will always be with you for the rest of my life. From the moment I became conscious, I knew that my existence was for your sake. I had to find you, and now I have found you."
Neither of them spoke again. Whatever the future held, what mattered was this moment. They were together, and that was eternity.
