Chapter 340: Eternal Regret

Chapter 340: Eternal Regret

Anno wanted to say that she wasn't stingy, it was just that this Dark Light Queen treated her like a little animal, pinching and touching her here and there, which was completely inconsistent with her image as a cold and aloof queen.

According to her mother's description, the Dark Light Queen had never hugged her mother. Why is it different for her?

Although this iron-blooded queen shattered Anno's preconceived notions about her, her aura was still very strong, and she sat obediently on her lap without daring to move.

I entered the temple with my mother this time for two reasons: firstly, out of my own curiosity, and secondly, so that my mother could ease the tension between herself and the Dark Light Queen.

The Zerg define death not as the physical demise of a person.

As long as the core remains, as long as the aura of the King Worm still lingers in the temple, and as long as their memories remain in the consciousness network, it is not considered a true death.

It's just that it's not as convenient to meet and communicate normally as it was when we were alive.

Previously, her core was held by Dennis and his group, so Augsis dared not easily touch Beihe. Only after the core was safely returned to her body did he begin to avenge her step by step.

Without the core, her soul could not return to the temple, a pain that neither Augsis nor Sevier could bear.

Even though Anunu has returned to their side, they still feel lingering fear whenever they think about it.

This also became a permanent source of guilt for Sevier and Augsis towards Anunu. Anunu suffered so much outside since childhood, and its core almost couldn't return. They were not competent Queen Worms; they couldn't even take good care of their most important little Queen Worm.

For this reason alone, Sevier felt that she could never be as good as her mother, the Dark Light Queen.

Although her mother was strict and cold towards her, she trained her to be a powerful queen from a young age, so that even during her rebellious period when she went out alone, she never suffered any loss.

This gives her the ability to protect herself and provides her with the support of a powerful community.

But she couldn't even protect Anunu...

Darklight looked at Sevier, who was standing in front of her with her eyes slightly lowered, pinched Anno's cheek, whispered a few words in her ear, and Anno nodded. He then put her down and summoned a group of glowing creatures to take her to other parts of the temple to play.

A translucent, glowing creature nuzzled against Anno, and Anno climbed onto its back, letting it carry her out of the temple.

She hadn't had a proper look at the other parts of the temple yet, so this was a good opportunity for her to explore.

As Sevier watched Anunu walk away, she spoke to her mother in her usual barbed tone, "Mother, you're still the same as before, making it impossible to read your thoughts."

As always, Darklight remained calm and composed in the face of her barbed and sarcastic remarks.

“Sevier, come with me.”

The dim light fell to the ground and headed west towards the temple.

Sevier paused for a moment, then followed.

Darklight is currently a consciousness, but the temple contains abundant energy that allows her to materialize into a physical form.

She was the most recent undead to arrive at the temple, and her consciousness was still very strong. If she wanted, she could even leave the temple for a short period of time.

Sevier watched her retreating figure, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes.

His usually aloof expression softened unconsciously.

The arduous training she endured in the past, which once filled her with resentment and even brought her to tears, has now become her most cherished memory.

Her gaze shifted to the silhouette in the dim light, and she thought that such a memory would be beautiful and profound, probably because of her mother.

She simply stood before her, like an impenetrable fortress. Her mother was so powerful that just hearing her name and seeing her figure brought immense peace to her and every member of the Zerg race.

The long, dark black skirt trailed on the ground; she was still wearing the black dress she had worn the night before she left the temple.

The black dress was woven with silver threads, and there were some tiny, shimmering minerals on it, making it look like a starry night sky when you walk.

And the darkest star is the brightest, and also the loneliest, among all the stars.

She illuminated the darkness, but no one illuminated her.

Whether in life or in death, she was the loneliest of the Zerg.

Having lost her mother at a young age, she had to shoulder the heavy responsibility of revitalizing the Zerg. She couldn't allow any personal emotions to hinder her or affect her judgment. In addition, due to some special and important reasons, she had to close off her consciousness and not communicate with any of her Zerg family members, including her mother and daughter.

After she was born, her mother was in her most vulnerable stage, and she had to comfort and protect her mother from a young age.

Later, Sevier was born, and she could only bury her joy in her heart and train her daughter to become an even more powerful Ohmu.

This also left her daughter with a deep-seated resentment towards her. Séville couldn't understand her mother, and she never thought of making her daughter understand her.

The dim light stopped at the edge of the platform outside the temple.

The temple is an isolated island in this dark space, where countless luminous creatures and ancestral consciousnesses have become shining stars in this vast, empty space.

All Dark Light can do is gaze at this planet and use its consciousness to perceive all life on this world.

Seeing that the Zerg had gradually settled down and were thriving, she felt a little comforted.

Sevier stopped beside Darklight and turned to look at her: "What does Mother want to say to me?"

Darklight glanced at her and said, "Sevier, ever since my mother, the Wind Spirit Queen, fell, I have felt regret and remorse in my heart."

Sevier had never heard her mother mention the Wind Spirit Queen before. She looked at the dark light and spoke calmly, her cold and beautiful face less majestic and more peaceful.

Looking at the shimmering stars before him, An Guang's voice was ethereal and distant: "I failed to protect my mother. I should have been able to give her a peaceful era, allowing her to live out the rest of her life in peace, but I was still a step too late."

"When I woke up from the abyss, I heard the news that my mother had self-destructed her core and perished together with the enemy. I only regretted that I had not woken up sooner. I was only three days late, just three days."

Darklight sighed, his tone filled with resentment.

"In the time to come, I will feel the same way you do now: that I am not strong enough, that I cannot even protect my own mother. She should have been my greatest motivation to lead the Zerg. Even if she is gone, at least she left behind the core. But she has lost even the core. I can no longer feel her consciousness, and I will never see her again."

"If she still has the core, at least I can let her see me leading the Zerg to prosperity, and at least she will have something to be happy about."

As Sevier listened to her mother calmly recount her past heartbreak, a bittersweet feeling welled up inside her.

She used to think that nothing could affect a strong person like her mother, neither enemies nor emotions could hinder her progress.

The mother was indeed moving forward, but she was carrying unspeakable pain in her heart, and she led the Zerg to prosperity step by step.

"I think that shortly after you, Mother, were born, the Wind Spirit Queen knew that you were capable of leading the Zerg to restore their former prosperity, otherwise she would not have chosen to self-destruct her core at this time."

Sevier hadn't been very close to her mother in the past, and couldn't say anything comforting, but she felt that the Wind Spirit Queen must think that way.

Dark light flickered in his eyes as he turned his head to look at Sevier, a slight smile playing on his lips.

It seems that with Anunu by her side, Sevier's mindset has become more composed than before.
