Chapter 458: The Most Important
Before a large number of guards arrived, Anno told Sitar and the others to leave quickly.
Fei and Lingqi were indeed very strong, and they were almost unable to move Caesar and the others. Fortunately, Caesar could use his superpowers to open a portal and take Sitar and the others away.
The moment Caesar used his powers, Anno sensed the energy emanating from his core. She was astonished; Caesar's core had actually been unlocked. No wonder he could use his powers in such an energy-locked environment.
Anno thought they had all left, but Caesar suddenly opened a portal in front of her and hugged her. Anno instinctively reached out her hand, but Fei quickly pulled her back.
Caesar merely touched her hand and closed the portal before Scarlet could plunge the knife in.
"Your Highness, are you alright?"
Lingqi and Shiyi rushed forward to check on her condition, but Anuo shook her head.
Suddenly, she keenly smelled a bloody odor. She turned her head and saw Fei standing straight behind her, his murderous aura still lingering. His cold gaze gradually warmed after meeting hers.
Anno's gaze shifted downwards, landing on his slashed hand.
Blood dripped from his fingertips onto the floor, but he seemed oblivious, simply looking at her, wanting to reach out and check if she was injured, but ultimately withdrew his hand.
Anno instinctively wanted to use Firefly's ability to heal Fei, but the energy dissipated as soon as it was concentrated in his hand.
Fei Xing has also sealed her core, preventing her from using her powers.
"What happened?"
Fei Jue and Caius hurriedly jumped off the hovercraft and, with the guards, came to Anno and the others.
Lingqi briefly recounted what had just happened to them.
"Is it Zero Nine and the others?"
Caius frowned and looked at Fei Jue. "This traitor is one of yours, and you haven't caught him yet?"
Fei Jue said, "In a place as big as Heavenly City, and with one of them able to open a spatial portal at any time, they won't be so easy to catch."
Caius snorted coldly and looked at Anno with a worried expression, saying, "Your Highness, are you alright? I'll escort you back."
Anno glanced at him, then turned to Fei and said, "Go back first and bandage your wound."
Having said that, he looked at Fei Jue.
Fei Jue gestured to An Nuo, "Your Highness, would you like me to escort you back?"
Anno nodded slightly to him and walked towards her aircraft.
Fei followed her for two steps, but stopped when she saw Fei looking back at her.
As Fei Jue passed by Caius, a smirk appeared on his lips, causing Caius to clench his teeth.
Anno boarded the aircraft, and Feijue sat in the co-pilot's seat.
There were only the two of them; Anno didn't bring anyone else with them.
"Does Your Highness have something to ask me?" Fei Jue asked.
Anno didn't speak, but activated the autopilot mode of her aircraft and flew towards the Golden Palace. Behind her aircraft followed a number of guards.
"Was Lingjiu your subordinate before?"
After a long silence, Anuo finally spoke and asked Feijue.
“Yes,” Fei Jue said. “Our highest-ranking Celestials can choose their own sword slaves. I chose him in the arena.”
Anno tapped his hand lightly on his knee, his gaze fixed on the golden palace that shimmered even in the night. "So, he's been working for you all along?"
No, that's not it.
When Fei Jue heard An Nuo say this, she knew what An Nuo wanted to know. She had entered the City of Heaven with Ling Jiu and the others that day.
Although he didn't know why Ling Jiu was able to be with the Little King of the Zerg, their relationship was probably not that simple. Ling Jiu had been defecting from the City of Heaven for more than ten years, and he knew nothing about what had happened during those ten years.
Since Her Highness asked, it must be because she wants to know if he was responsible for Ling Jiu becoming like this.
"I admire 09."
Fei Jue said, "Actually, if I hadn't chosen him in the arena that day, he would have died."
Anno paused, then asked, "Why must I die?"
Fei Jue: "Before me, his master was another Celestial Being, whose position was equal to mine, second only to Her Majesty the Queen, and who was also one of the most sought-after successors. However, Ling Jiu killed him."
"The sword slave killed his master and should have been executed, but he still had a choice: to win thirty consecutive matches in the arena. For every loss, he would have to replace a part of his body. He had no parts left to replace, except for his heart and brain."
"Actually, his previous owner could have survived, but he did something that angered Zero Nine. He thought Zero Nine's abilities weren't strong enough and decided to replace his heart with an artificial energy heart."
At this point, Fei Jue said with some surprise, "Actually, for Ling Jiu, the final heart and brain are no longer of much significance to his mechanical body. What does it matter whether they are flesh and blood or mechanical? Anyway, his whole body is basically mechanical, so even if they are replaced, he won't feel anything. As a knife slave, his persistence is meaningless, but I admire his persistence."
After hearing Fei Jue's words, Anuo remained silent for a long time.
“The heart is very important,” Anno said softly. “He knows that his heart is the most important thing to him, and he can’t have it replaced.”
"Why is that? Can Your Highness enlighten me?"
Anno countered with a question to Feijue, "What is the most important thing to you?"
Fei Jue paused, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face. "The most important thing, I really need to think about this carefully."
Anno tilted her head and looked at him, saying, "It's what's most important to you, what you care about most, not what you want most, not what your desires drive you, but something so important that you'd give anything for it, something you must hold onto."
This was the first time someone had said these words to Fei Jue. He had originally planned to just pick a few things to say, but seeing Anuo's serious gaze, he couldn't help but think about it carefully.
Most important, most caring
The first thing that comes to Fei Jue's mind is a huge, majestic golden palace and that high and mighty position.
But after flashing through my mind for a moment, these things became blurry.
The magnificent hall was filled with elegantly dressed, smiling figures. The banquet reeked of alcohol and extravagance, and the smiling faces turned into stiff masks.
These memories suddenly turned into a bizarre dream, and an endless emptiness assailed him, threatening to devour him.
"A gentle reminder..."
A soft sound pulled him back to reality, and his gaze refocused. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw that Anno had turned on a small toy placed on the aircraft.
He then noticed that there was a row of cute little toys on the control panel of the aircraft, which would wobble and make a sound if Anno touched them lightly.
He rarely saw such small toys. The City of Heaven was full of exquisite luxury goods, and even children rarely liked these things. From a young age, they were exposed to jewelry, various extravagant so-called works of art, elegant musical instruments, or the bloody and exciting gladiatorial combat in the arena.
The sky they saw was fake, the flowers blooming in the soil were carefully cultivated, and even the sunlight shining on them was fake.
The City of Heaven is their entire world.
Fei Jue grew up in the same way, but the girl in front of him, fiddling with her toys, was like a wildflower full of vitality, with thorns and a rich fragrance.
Seeing her reminds him of 09.
The two of them had a strange similarity. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but it was probably a kind of drive, a kind of unwavering belief that they would stick to even unto death.
"Haven't you figured it out yet?"
Anno waited for a while but did not hear Fei Jue's reply.
She sat up straight and said to Fei Jue, "My original goal was simply to go home. I didn't want to care about anything else, nor did I care what others were like, because I have people and things that I care about. Leica and Tianzhicheng are not things I care about."
She paused, a smile playing on her lips, "However, since you don't want me to leave and want me to stay as a 'guest,' I've become a little curious, as I happen to be very interested in foreign civilizations."
“I spent some time in Midu, and it was actually quite nice,” Anno said. “Perhaps you’d have a chance to go out and see the world?”
Fei Jue smiled faintly and said, "I have gone to see it, Your Highness."
"But that was a long time ago, when I was still a young and impulsive boy. The few times I went out were to find what Your Highness mentioned, the things that are most important and most important to me."
“I was a celestial being of the highest rank since I was a child, and I never lacked anything, but I was not my father’s favorite child. He felt that I was not ambitious enough and was unwilling to fight for more rights.”
"Back then, I always thought, what's the point of fighting for this? Why be complacent in such a cage-like place? But later, when I saw people outside desperately trying to get in, I had a different opinion."
"We are all trapped, trapped in this little puddle. The road to the sea has long since dried up, and we will never reach the sea."
Fei Jue's voice grew softer and softer until it sounded like he was muttering to himself.
Anno flicked the talking toy again, her pale blue eyes gleaming. "There's still a chance to reach the sea, it just depends on whether you have the courage to take that step."
Fei Jue paused, looking at her and saying, "Oh? Does Your Highness have some excellent method...?"
“No.” Anno interrupted him bluntly: “I just said it offhand. I don’t know you guys well. I just often heard people say that there is always a way out. As long as you’re alive, there are endless possibilities. Instead of complaining, you should take action. How will you know if it will work if you don’t try?”
Fei Jue stared at her face for a while, then suddenly said, "Your Highness, as expected of the Queen Insect of the Insect Clan, your will is much more resolute than that of ordinary people."
Anno seemed to have thought of something and said, "Even before I was a King Worm, I knew that as long as I was alive, I had to move forward step by step, even if I couldn't stand up, I had to crawl forward."
The aircraft landed on the top platform of the Golden Palace. Anno jumped off the aircraft, the night wind blowing her skirt and her long hair.
Seeing Fei Jue's gaze, she smiled at him, "Lord Fei Jue, would you be willing to show me around the City of Heaven? Perhaps we can find some other meaningful things to do in this cage."
Fei Jue's heart stirred slightly, and he smiled, "I would be more than happy to."
