Chapter Twenty-Five: Stress
This was their first child, and it meant a lot to them. Hicks was obedient and sensible from a young age, and compared to other parents, raising Hicks was relatively easy for them.
Hicks' grades had always been the best since childhood. After graduating from military academy, he trained with Lockin for several years, and then went to guard the border with other legions. After a functional evaluation, he became an inspector, but his somewhat inhumane style offended many people.
Three years ago, he was taken away for investigation due to an inspection mission, and later he stepped down from his position as judge. As soon as he stepped down, he joined the security department and went to Casa. At that time, Lokin advised him to wait and ask for a second investigation.
But Hicks insisted on leaving. He was stubborn, and once he made up his mind, no amount of persuasion could change it.
Luo Jin always treated the children with military-style management, while Tang Ting played the gentle and easy-going role. They played the good cop and the bad cop, and the children were all raised to be healthy and outstanding.
Of course, when they're being naughty, they can also give them a headache.
Looking at the Fire Seed cub in front of him, Lokin thought of his sister Evena. They had five siblings in total. Except for Evena, who was quite irritable and mischievous when they were young, Lokin grew up with Evena. The Fire Seed's personality was truly gentle and peaceful, like water.
She had never seen Evena angry; she always spoke gently and had a very strong sense of empathy. She had taken the blame for many of her siblings' mistakes, though of course, her parents wouldn't believe her.
It's not just Evena; the sparks from other families have the same personality. Putting aside their status as sparks, which parent wouldn't want to raise such a gentle and adorable cub?
"I'm going to report this mission to the Chief Executive. Keep an eye on the little one."
Seeing that the cub had calmed down and fallen into a peaceful sleep, Luo Jin stood up and spoke to Tang Ting.
Tang Ting: "Don't worry, I'm here."
Logan squeezed his hand and walked toward the starship's control room.
Anno slept soundly and didn't wake up until the next evening.
She stared blankly at the white ceiling for a while before coming to her senses. At that moment, a medical staff member was changing her IV fluids. When he saw the little cub looking at him with its round, blue eyes, he was startled. After quickly finishing the IV fluids, he said to Tang Ting, who was preparing the medication, with joy, "Dr. Tang Ting, the little cub is awake!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Tang Ting stopped what he was doing and strode towards Anuo.
Anno scanned the medical room, finding it filled with unfamiliar faces. These people were dressed in uniforms similar to those she had seen at the base, and there were many medicines placed around them.
Her gaze fell on the tubes connected to her body and the beeping instruments beside her. Unpleasant memories flooded her mind: in the dim, cold room, people wearing masks locked her to the hospital bed, their eyes scrutinizing her as if she were an object.
"Her genes are very unusual; we first took samples to obtain the data."
"Make a record and prepare for the first electric shock experiment."
A tremendous electric current surged through her body, her pupils dilated instantly, and her whole body convulsed and spasmed. The veins on her locked hands bulged, as if they were about to burst at any moment. Her mouth was gagged with a strip of cloth to prevent her from biting off her tongue in pain. Her body arched upwards, and her breath was momentarily sucked out.
After the electric shock, she was like a fish thrown ashore, her chest heaving violently.
The researchers' cold, machine-like voices rang in my ears: "Prepare for the second electric shock experiment."
Her eyes were vacant as she stared at the ceiling, at a spider web in which a spider was crawling toward an insect that had fallen into the web.
"Fifth drug trial record..."
"Sixth time...no change in genes..."
"The seventh time..."
Anno snapped out of her reverie and frantically tried to pull out the IV drips from her body. Two medical staff members tried to hold her down, but fear filled Anno's eyes as she looked at their outstretched hands. She tried to shake them off and shouted, "Don't touch me!"
The medical staff were startled by Anuo's scream and didn't understand why she was reacting so strongly. They didn't dare to touch her for a moment, for fear of upsetting her.
Anno tried to jump off the bed, but just as she was about to jump, a pair of large hands caught her.
Anuo writhed desperately in Tang Ting's arms, tearing off several tubes from her hands. She was so strong that she even pulled out the IV needle, and blood flowed from the needle holes in her arm, staining Tang Ting's white coat red.
Tang Ting said to the medical officers, "Remove all the tubes!"
They quickly removed all the medical tubes from the machine, and Tang Ting also swiftly removed the remaining tubes from her body to prevent blood from flowing back out.
Anno struggled in Tang Ting's arms, biting his ear as if trying to tear it apart. She thought the pain from such a vulnerable part of his ear would make the man let her go.
The moment Anuo bit Tang Ting's ear, Tang Ting was secretly relieved that he hadn't activated his defensive shield, otherwise she would have crushed his teeth.
But he paused, startled, after feeling Anno's teeth biting at his ear.
How did her two front teeth break?
Tang Ting saw that Anuo was in a state of stress and could sense her fear, so he gently placed her on the ground and released her.
Anno immediately grabbed a sharp medical instrument from the tool tray next to him and staggered to hide in a corner.
The medical officers standing nearby looked at Anno in astonishment, "Dr. Tang Ting, what is this Fireseed cub...?"
Tang Ting: "Everyone, get out."
The medical staff immediately left the medical room.
Tang Ting watched as the little cub huddled in a corner with medical supplies, and then dialed Luo Jin's communication.
When Luo Jin rushed over, he saw all the medical staff in the corridor outside the medical room. As soon as he entered the medical room, he smelled blood.
"What happened?"
She noticed that Tang Ting's white coat was covered in bloodstains, but the blood didn't smell like his.
“The little one has a severe stress reaction, so we called you over. She knows you best, so see if you can approach her and comfort her.”
Following Tang Ting's gaze, Luo Jin saw the little one curled up in the corner, with a cart of supplies being used to block her way.
Through the gap in the cart, she could see the look of vigilance and fear on her face.
She approached her slowly, noticing that the little cub's gaze was fixed on her.
