Chapter Twenty-Nine: Speculation
"The baby's bones are not developing well, and she is much smaller than other Sparkling cubs of the same age. She is no longer suitable to be placed in a petri dish and can only rely on our later medication assistance."
They had already prepared a petri dish for the cub, but after Tang Ting checked her various health data, she concluded that raising it in a petri dish now would be riskier than having them take meticulous care of it.
Tang Ting used one of the two hairdryers that Luo Jin had brought to heat up some of the ointment before applying it to Anuo's skin so that she wouldn't feel cold.
Luo Jin was blow-drying Anuo's long hair, while Tang Ting was applying ointment and massaging her. After finishing, they found that Anuo had fallen asleep.
Luo Jin carefully turned her over and, with Tang Ting's help, gently helped her put on her pajamas.
After putting Anuo on the bed, Luo Jin and Tang Ting stayed with her for a while before Tang Ting pulled her to sit on the sofa.
Luo Jin said softly, "Is the baby's physical condition good enough for a normal life now? I still think her body is too weak, judging from her aura."
In the past, when she saw that Eve was seriously ill, the light band was brighter than that of the cubs, and she needed to be treated in the medical room for a long time.
Tang Ting retrieved the psychological test chart that he had previously had the little cub choose from his personal computer and said to Luo Jin, "This is what I wanted to tell you."
He showed the test results directly to Locke, "The test results show that the baby has a very serious psychological trauma to medical-related environments and people."
Looking at the red test results, Luo Jin exclaimed in surprise, "Wasn't the baby just born from a petri dish? How could he have such a severe psychological trauma related to the medical environment?"
Tang Ting pondered for a moment and said, "Her bone age is now three years and seven days, which is well past the normal birth time of a cub. Judging from her physical development, someone put her in a petri dish. I suspect that someone did something to her."
If someone weren't looking after them, the little embryos wouldn't survive during embryonic development. The various nutrient solutions and essential "golden sand" required for the petri dish need to be replenished every so often, and the petri dish machine also needs regular maintenance.
However, her physical development was clearly malnourished, indicating that she may lack resources and was not well-off.
During the three years the cub stayed in the petri dish, she was able to communicate with the outside world and even learn. If the person who took care of the cub had treated her well, she would not have had such a severe stress reaction and psychological trauma.
After hearing what Tang Ting said, Luo Jin understood.
Both of them were veterans of the battlefield and had dealt with many gangs and rebel organizations, witnessing firsthand the darkness and bloodshed involved.
The thought that the cub might have experienced such darkness made both of them turn cold.
Tang Ting pulled up a recent official news article and said to Luo Jin, "Recently, many anti-rebel organizations have been recruiting fallen species on abandoned planets to conduct experiments, trying to extract TG3 directly from their bodies."
Lokin knew this inside information. At first, she thought it was just a rumor, but she had it verified with Tang Ting. They were indeed doing it.
Fallen beings are those whose mental turmoil has reached its highest level or whose genes are too low to be reversed, and who have completely degenerated into beasts, attacking any living creature indiscriminately.
Tang Ting said in a deep voice, "The TG3 extracted from these Fallen Ones is more potent than the TG3 synthesized from drugs, but it also causes a higher frequency of mental disturbances. That's why they've set their sights on the Fire Seed."
Recently, the seedlings on planets closer to the outer reaches of the North River system have been moved to the main planet and nearby planets to prevent them from being hijacked by villainous organizations. Even the genetic screening of the seedlings has been temporarily suspended, and can only continue on a few planets with the highest level of security.
Therefore, both of them were worried that the little cub had experienced some darkness they were unaware of on Casa, the most chaotic planet.
Fortunately, they have successfully rescued her and will never let her suffer any harm again.
The two talked quietly for a while, then Tang Ting returned to the medical room to prepare medicine for Anuo. Now that Anuo could not stay in the medical room for treatment, he had to find a way to prepare some better medicine for her.
Luo Jin sat by Anuo's bedside, muted his personal terminal, and handled some official business. He would glance at her from time to time, and after seeing that she was sleeping somewhat restlessly, he turned off the personal terminal and lay down next to her.
Anno fell into a dream again. She was lying on a hospital bed with a dim yellow light swaying above her head.
She moved and found that her hands were locked up, and her wrists had been rubbed raw with blood.
She could hear voices around her, and every now and then she would be stared at.
She looked over and saw people standing under the lights, their shadows elongated, half of them hidden in the shadows, creating an indescribable eeriness.
"During the thirty-seventh painful stimulation experiment, her genes changed, and a burst of energy erupted from her body."
"This energy healed some of her wounds."
"She's a superhuman? We've awakened her hidden healing abilities?"
"It's like it, but it feels like something else. Although her genes are compatible with ours, at the moment the genes changed, several gene sequences were completely different."
"What's that behind her ear that can retract on its own?"
"A few times during stimulation experiments, a little bit will grow. Next time, we'll cut off a small piece to study it."
"We must keep a close eye on this test subject. She may not be an Earth creature and might be related to the source of pollution."
Another painful experiment. This time, even more energy erupted from her body, allowing her to break free of her restraints. After knocking down the people surrounding her, she staggered and ran away.
"Grab her! Don't let her get away!"
She ran forward through the dimly lit corridor, searching for an exit.
Just as a light appeared before them, people in white coats and armed men caught up behind them.
She ran to the exit, and a gust of wind blew in her face.
This is a platform more than ten meters high, with an endless sea in front of it. So, she was at sea.
This was the first time she had seen the sea beyond books and images from the past. Hearing the shouts of people chasing after her, her hand holding the railing trembled slightly.
She can't swim, and there are countless mutated marine creatures beneath the surface. If she jumps in, she'll be committing suicide.
But the thought of being locked up in a dimly lit medical room and used as an experimental subject is worse than feeding the fish.
A huge fish appeared in her sight, swimming slowly beneath the surface of the sea. She had a faint feeling in her heart that perhaps she could survive.
We have no choice but to take a gamble.
Just as the person behind her was about to touch her, she jumped over the railing.
She was instantly awakened as she fell into the icy seawater.
