Chapter 120: Scars
"We must not let anyone else know about this except the two of us."
Tang Ting said to Luo Jin, "If this gets out, we won't be able to find the baby's core, and the higher-ups will definitely investigate us."
Logan nodded: "I understand."
After seeing Anno's memories, she felt ashamed for doing this for the North River system. Her upbringing taught her that she would rather fight to the death than sacrifice anyone behind her for them.
But they sacrificed a child.
She finally understood why the Zerg hadn't done anything even though they knew the baby was in their hands. Given the Zerg's temperament, they wouldn't willingly let them raise it; they would rather go to war and conquer the entire North River system.
It's because they haven't found the baby's core either, and they know the core is still in the Northern River system.
Before the baby grows a new core, the old core is her life. Tang Ting said that if the baby's old core goes out, she will die no matter where she is.
The Northern Star System is using a child as a threat.
Their actions made them feel utterly ashamed.
No matter what condemnation she faces in the future, she must reclaim the baby's core, which rightfully belongs to the baby.
Her bottom line and principles prevented her from enjoying the peace that came from having a child, while hiding all the problems in the North River system, revealing a filth beneath the surface of tranquility and peace.
When they stole the Little King Worm three hundred years ago, the Northern River System had already lost its foundation.
Therefore, Lokin felt extremely humiliated. Since someone was willing to bear this humiliation in exchange for temporary peace, she was also willing to bear all the consequences of taking away the core and sending the baby away.
Because she was a soldier and a mother.
A soldier's spirit wouldn't allow her to let this peace, obtained through shortcuts, wear down her sharpness and fighting will.
As a mother, she also cannot teach her children to use such sacrifices to gain any benefit.
Tang Ting held her hand, looking at the determination in her eyes, and said half-jokingly, "No wonder my mentor used to say that I had a rebellious streak and forced me to switch from biological genetics to biomedical science. It seems that even changing majors can't cure my rebellious streak."
After changing his major, he still studied the Spark Gene for a while. His advisor simply blocked his original account and refused to lend him access to the database. It turns out that there were clues to this secret from the beginning.
If he had continued his research back then, he probably wouldn't be standing here now.
Lokin patted him on the shoulder: "What traitorous nonsense? I've received messages from the commanders of the Fifth and Ninth Legions these past two days. The rebels are about to make another move, and I'll probably receive a notice to return to my unit soon..."
Before she could finish speaking, she heard a crisp sound from downstairs. She paused, and she and Tang Ting ran downstairs at the same time.
When they looked up from the top of the stairs, they saw that the baby had already finished breakfast and was sitting on the sofa, with Winnie squatting in front of her, comforting her.
What's wrong with the baby?
As soon as Lokin arrived, Anno turned away, looking as if she was angry.
Winnie said, "The baby was playing with a toy fighter jet and it broke when it crashed into the wall."
Lokin saw the toy fighter jet, now completely shattered, on the coffee table, and the impact marks on the wall.
Anno is usually very good at playing with these toys, even better than some adults, so she wouldn't have bumped into them so badly because she couldn't control herself.
Looking at the flashing light behind her ear, it was a sign that she was angry and irritable.
Sensing Lokin's gaze, Anno grabbed the light strip and stuffed it into her clothes.
She was playing with her fighter jet when she suddenly felt a bit annoyed. Watching the jet slowly circling around the room, she accelerated too much and crashed it into the wall.
These toy fighter jets fly extremely fast; if you crash into one like this, it's beyond repair.
She knelt down in front of Anuo and said softly, "Baby, shall we go buy some more?"
Anno has been getting irritable from time to time lately, and they know it's because of the Zerg genes manifesting.
The Zerg are naturally volatile, and Anno is no exception.
Anno jumped off the sofa, stood in front of the coffee table, picked up the wrecked fighter jet, and said to Locke, "It can't be fixed."
Logan touched her face. "Let's go buy another one exactly the same."
Anno shook her head: "There isn't an exact match, I want this one."
Tang Ting squatted down beside her, took the broken fighter jet from her hand and looked at it. "Daddy knows a very skilled craftsman. Daddy promises to fix it for you."
Anno stared at the fighter jet and said softly, "But even after it's been repaired, there are still traces; it's not the original one anymore."
Luo Jin and Tang Ting fell silent upon hearing her words. They almost immediately thought of her past, and how no matter how much they tried to make up for the damage, there would always be traces left.
Luo Jin felt a pang of pain in his heart, and hugged Anuo in his arms, stroking her long hair repeatedly: "We will fix it for the baby, don't be sad, baby."
Anno looked at the toy, her eyes dimmed, and she nodded.
After coaxing Anuo for a while and seeing that she had calmed down, Luo Jin and Tang Ting took her out together.
They took her out for a while and bought her some daily necessities.
After taking Anno to a toy store to buy her new toys, I took her to a nearby food court. She said Eli would be there, as we had arranged to meet before leaving.
Eli was a male spark that Anno met in Heroes Square during the summer vacation. He often came to visit Anno, and Anno liked him very much.
As soon as Anno arrived at the square, he sensed Eli's energy and followed it directly to find him.
Eli sensed her presence and walked towards her at the same time.
"Did Nono buy a new hat again?"
Eli knelt down in front of her, smiled, and patted her head.
Anno nodded: "Mom bought it."
Eli laughed and said, "It's cute, like a fluffy rabbit."
As he spoke, he touched the rabbit ears hanging from her hat.
He stood up and said to Locke, "Mommy Nono, may I take Nono out to play for a while?"
Knowing that Anno wasn't in a good mood today, and that Eli would probably cheer her up, Lokin said, "Go ahead, Anno, don't eat too much ice cream, or you'll get a stomachache."
Eli winked at Anno and led her toward the center of the square, with Tang Ting and Luo Jin following at a distance.
Anno stepped onto the suspended skateboard and pulled Eli towards the ice cream shop.
Anno leaned against the window of the ice cream shop, ordered two flavors of ice cream, and took out the star coins from her pocket to pay. Usually when they went out to play, Lokin would slip some pocket money into her pocket.
The shop assistant was thrilled to see the adorable little fire spark in front of her and specially made her a large portion of ice cream.
Anno glanced at the huge ice cream in her hand, hid it closer to Eli, and said to him, "Don't tell Mom and Dad."
Eli laughed and said, "I won't tell you, I'll keep it a secret. Look, I ate two of these big ones too."
Anno looked over and saw that he was also holding two extra-large ice creams.
The two sat down on chairs in the rest area to eat ice cream. After finishing, Anuo felt her whole stomach was cold.
Eli wiped Anno's mouth with a tissue. "Feeling better now?"
Anno nodded, feeling slightly better, but still a little down.
Eli offered her his hand, and Anno looked at it for a moment before placing her hand on it.
After a while, Eli asked, "You've been having a lot of dreams lately. What have you been dreaming about?"
Anno: "I don't know, it didn't seem like a nightmare, but it didn't feel like a happy dream."
Eli knew that Anno had been brought back from Kappa and had a bad experience, so it was normal for her to have nightmares. But there was always a peculiar aura about Anno that made him want to get closer to her and gave him a sense of submission.
He had never felt this way with anyone else, and he found it very strange. He was usually mild-mannered and rarely got particularly excited. But every time he saw Anno, it always subtly stirred his blood.
Eli patted Anno's head. "I sometimes have strange dreams too."
Anno asked, "What was it in the dream?"
Eli shook his head and smiled, "I can't explain it. Sometimes it makes me yearn for certain things, and sometimes I feel inexplicably sad when I wake up, but I quickly forget that feeling."
Anno: "Do you still remember the things you long for?"
Eli nodded. "Nono, you've seen me before in my memories too."
Anno thought for a moment, and what she remembered most about Eli was that he liked to travel to various places by train.
Eli looked up at the sky. "Sometimes, I long for the outside world. I follow my feelings and go to various planets in the Northern River system, but none of them are the kind of feeling I have in my heart. Later, I can only let this feeling fade away slowly in my heart."
