Chapter 100 Late Night (1/2)

Most of the men in the village are in their prime, except for the elderly man.

The successive deaths brought immense panic to the village, and the villagers could only let out faint cries. To avoid being seen, Jiang An lowered his head slightly.

Just then, Jiang An's gaze suddenly stopped. In an inconspicuous corner, she noticed someone making a gesture to her.

She immediately realized what was happening and quickly responded to the other person's gesture.

Soon, the gathered villagers dispersed.

The deceased was also covered with a straw mat.

The kerosene lamp that had been lit was also extinguished.

Jiang An stood still, waiting for that player.

But suddenly a voice broke the silence, "Da Ya, what are you standing there for? Come and rest!"

An aunt pulled Jiang An back to where they had been, ruining their plans.

But it didn't stump the two of them.

Soon, in the pitch-black night, Jiang An felt someone grab her hand and write a few words on her palm.

She realized she had found a teammate.

Jiang An held the man's hand tightly, and the words written on his palm filled her with joy.

She looked around at her neighbors and, finding them all asleep, followed the player away.

The two quietly left the crowd and went to a secluded corner.

With the help of the moonlight, Jiang An finally saw the other person's face clearly; it was the young man who had reminded her during the day.

The two communicated by writing on their palms and then discovered something.

They decided to take turns keeping watch and rest first. Given the current situation, with unknown monsters appearing outside in the dark, it was clearly not a good time to investigate.

The two decided to wait until dawn before taking action.

In this long, dark night, they could only wait quietly.

Soon, after finishing his night shift, Jiang An woke up his teammate and then fell into a deep sleep.

... ...

The next day, it was dawn.

The villagers all woke up.

"Everyone, go back home, it's dawn! Same as always, go to the fields at Chenshi (7-9 AM)!" The old man glanced at the corpse on the ground, simply covered with a straw mat, and continued, "Fool, you should have someone bury your father this afternoon."

"Village chief, I understand!" a teenager replied with a sorrowful expression.

After the crowd dispersed.

Jiang An and the other person met at the cemetery.

"Hello, Chen Xun!" Chen Xun said first.

"Jiang An, how did you find me?" Jiang An asked, looking at the middle-aged man in front of him who was wearing a coarse cloth shirt.

Chen Xun touched his nose, hesitated for a few seconds, and said, "Maybe it was just a feeling. I was just testing the waters, but I didn't expect our gestures to match! How well do you know this village? Have you discovered anything? Let's talk first. Once we start working, we won't be able to be alone. Also, I don't live alone; I live with my whole family."

"I live alone, and I've made a discovery: the number of people isn't right!"

"What? The number of people is wrong!" Chen Xun looked at Jiang An with surprise on his face.

Jiang An nodded heavily and looked at Chen Xun seriously, saying, "Yes, the number is wrong. If I remember correctly, there are 103 people in this village."

After Jiang An finished speaking, he paused and looked at Chen Xun opposite him, seemingly waiting for his reaction.

Chen Xun's expression was serious and focused, with a hint of tension and anticipation in his eyes.

After a while, Jiang An continued, "If I'm not mistaken, there are 19 new graves in the cemetery. Two villagers went to find help, so there should be 82 villagers left. The number of people at dinner last night, including the old man, is 87. Of course, it's also possible that there are other villagers who aren't in that room!"

Chen Xun listened to Jiang An's analysis, his brows furrowed slightly, and after thinking for a moment, he replied, "No, there were 87 people. I inquired around and found out that ever since the deaths at night, the villagers have been gathering in the largest house at night, so the number last night was the entire village!"

Jiang An frowned and said in confusion, "Then there will be 5 more people!"

Chen Xun nodded in agreement and added, "That's right, there are indeed five more people. Logically speaking, if our guess is correct, then these five extra people are very likely other players."

Jiang An suddenly remembered that when she first entered this world, she had noticed a white cloth strip hanging outside the door.

This detail gave him a sense of foreboding.

She hurriedly turned and ran towards the new graves, wanting to confirm whether her guess was correct.

She looked at the dozen or so new graves, remained silent for a long time, and then asked, "Chen Xun, what do you call yourself here?"

Just now, she found a tombstone that appeared to have her name on it.

Chen Xun was bewildered by this sudden question, but he still answered honestly, "I only know that it should include the character 'Shuan' (束), because this body's wife is called by that name."

Chen Xun's ears turned slightly red as he said these words.

He greatly envied Jiang An for being all alone, unlike him who had to face his family, which would undoubtedly increase his exposure rate.

“Zhang Shuanzhu,” Jiang An said suddenly, looking at a graveyard.

"What?" Chen Xun didn't react for a moment.

"Your name is Zhang Shuanzhu," Jiang An said earnestly, looking at his teammate.

"How did you know?" Chen Xun asked in surprise.

Jiang An pointed to the new grave and explained, "There's a name there!"

Chen Xun looked in the direction Jiang An pointed, his gaze freezing, his face showing astonishment and fear, his lips trembling as he stammered, "This isn't...this isn't..."

Jiang An looked at him and said firmly, "That's right, we buried Zhang Shuanzhu yesterday, and my character is named Zhang Daya, right there!" She pointed to another tombstone.

Then, Jiang An added, "If nothing unexpected happens, the five of us players should be replacing these deceased villagers!"

Chen Xun's eyes widened in disbelief, his voice filled with doubt: "No way!"

Jiang An shrugged and calmly analyzed, "What's impossible about that? We just need to remember these 19 names, and if nothing unexpected happens, the names of the other three teammates should also be among them." As she spoke, she began to silently read the names on the tombstones.

Upon hearing this, Chen Xun suddenly understood and hurriedly turned to look at the tombstones, trying his best to memorize the names on them.

After a while, both of them successfully memorized all the names.
