Chapter 360 Chen Xiaoyun Disappears

Madam Qin sat in the main room with a serious expression, feeling extremely annoyed.

She already knew what had happened that morning. Of course, it wasn't someone who tipped her off; rather, after the couple left, Qin secretly followed them out. Therefore, she naturally saw everything that happened in front of Ruyi Cake Shop clearly!

Madam Qin was furious. These two good-for-nothings had made her lose five taels of silver for nothing! That was five taels of silver! How much flour could that buy?

However, fearing that she would be discovered by the two and become entangled in a mess, she did not stay until the end and naturally did not see Qin San Niang and Da Wa.

Seeing his grandmother storm in, Da Bao jumped and darted behind the door. For some reason, he didn't dare to provoke his grandmother anymore. The swift action he had just performed was actually an instinctive reaction!

He waited at the door, hungry, for his parents, but his mother never came back. Fortunately, when his little stomach started rumbling in protest, he finally saw his father.

The little child snuggled into Wang Erlang's arms and said in a spoiled tone that he was hungry.

Suddenly, Dad pulled a large red date cake from his chest pocket, and Da Bao's eyes couldn't take it all in! Just as he was about to cheer, he saw Dad's "shh" gesture, immediately understood, and quickly covered his mouth.

"Be good and go eat behind the door."

With a satisfying gulp, Da Bao said indistinctly, "Dad, why aren't you eating? Grandma's angry, don't come in."

Wang Erlang's eyes darted around, and he turned around to ask, "Bao'er, where did Grandma go this morning? Do you know why she was angry?"

Da Bao took another bite of cake, thought carefully for a moment, and replied, "After you and Grandma went out, Grandma went out with you. She came back in a huff, which scared me to death! But why hasn't Grandma come back yet?"

Wang Erlang understood. It turned out that his stepmother had gone out to keep watch, so she must know what happened afterward. He just didn't know if she had seen his sister-in-law and eldest son. It seemed that the excuse he had prepared beforehand was useless.

With a determined heart, Wang Erlang patted Bao'er's hair, telling him not to go far, and then went into the main room.

Upon seeing Madam Qin, he quickly put on a fawning smile.

"Mother, I'm finally back! Oh dear, this job is no easy task. That Chen Xiaoyun really dared to put croton in my food. That wretched woman, just wait and see how I deal with her!"

Qin's eyelids twitched, and she said with a forced smile, "You two didn't manage to get this done, did you?"

Wang Erlang was speechless. Didn't you have any idea whether it was done or not? It's not like you didn't go to see it. But he still smiled and said.

“Mother, it’s not my fault that things didn’t go well! Chen Xiaoyun let it slip, and those employees at Ruyi Cake Shop are all tough guys! They even know the officials in the government and almost gave me thirty lashes. If I hadn’t been quick-witted and knelt down to beg for mercy, you probably wouldn’t be seeing your son right now!”

Qin rolled her eyes inwardly. "Hmph, I'd love to see your face!" Of course, she had to maintain appearances. "Chen Xiaoyun still hasn't come back? You've got some nerve, running off and abandoning your wife. What's wrong? You don't want her anymore?"

"Oh dear, Mother, you're saying that? That's a terrible injustice! Chen Xiaoyun didn't care about my life or death at all. As soon as she heard the officials were coming to arrest people, she turned around and ran away, causing me to be arrested myself. I thought she had already returned!"

Wang Erlang breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that his sister-in-law must not have found out about his affair. Otherwise, his mother would have been unable to hold back her anger and would have questioned him long ago.

I don't know why, but my mother has a particular aversion to my eldest brother's family. They are clearly good people and have been kind to my mother and me, but my mother seems to be unable to bear seeing other couples have a good relationship. She always manages to stir up a lot of trouble, which is truly baffling.

Upon hearing this, Madam Qin felt a sense of relief. Her unfortunate son was truly foolish. It seemed that everything was still under her control. Her tone softened naturally. "Alright, let's leave it at that. The pastry shop must be a large and powerful business. If we really extorted them, we might also suffer the consequences."

Chen Xiaoyun actually dared to run away on her own? She doesn't even care about her man anymore! Don't worry about where she went; she'll probably come back by herself when it gets dark!

She didn't care much about her son whom she had raised for so many years, so she cared even less about Chen Xiaoyun. But that unfortunate grandson was sweet-talking and very cute when he was young. Qin Shi had raised him for several years with great care and had developed some affection for him. However, even this little bit of affection was worn away by the hardships of the escape.

At that time, she had considered selling the child several times to get food, but she never succeeded.

However, Chen Xiaoyun, who was expected to return home soon, did not come back for several days in a row for some reason.

Wang Erlang inquired with Qin Shi to no avail, and could only search the streets day after day, but still found no trace of her. A few days later, Qin Shi nagged him, saying he was irresponsible, that lazy, greedy woman who didn't care about her husband's life or death—what use was she to him?! She's gone, so be it!

What Wang Erlang really wanted to say was that he didn't like Chen Xiaoyun at all, but wasn't it his mother who forced him to marry her? How come his mother said this in the end? Besides, Bao'er is still young and can't live without his mother!

Da Bao always followed Wang Erlang around, eating, drinking, and using the toilet. Although Wang Erlang was a carefree and irresponsible man, he was indeed a good father and took good care of Da Bao. Da Bao didn't feel anything when he didn't see his mother; anyway, his mother often went out to play, so it was better for him to stay with his father.

Without Chen Xiaoyun, Qin Shi thought she would have to do a lot of housework, but in the end, there wasn't much to do.

She left all the cooking and cleaning to her headstrong son, only needing to prepare vegetables and weigh out the day's rice. Life couldn't be easier. Besides, she had more than enough money to eat and drink.

At worst, she'll just abandon the old and the young and kick them all out!

As for dealing with Qin Sanniang, that was also part of her future plans, but she was always shrewd and calculating, so she would proceed slowly and deliberately.

Qin San Niang didn't know what Qin Shi was thinking, and even if she did, she wouldn't care too much, since the current Qin Shi didn't know her.

As for Qin Shi, she was someone that Qin San Niang was familiar with. Therefore, the advantage in this round was already somewhat skewed. There was also a variable that Qin Shi could not control, and that was Wang Erlang.

However, if the truth were to be laid bare before him, Wang Erlang might not be able to bear it! His mother, who had raised him for over twenty years, was actually his enemy? Who could accept that?

Life is unpredictable, Third Sister sighed!
