Chapter 8 Liu's Leg Injury Relapses

Seeing the children looking like little mice stealing food, Qin San Niang found it somewhat amusing, but she managed to hold back, as laughing at this moment would not have been appropriate.

So, she tried to eat the steamed bun herself, using her sleeve to cover her mouth, just like the child. However, the bun hadn't been re-steamed and was very hard; she almost choked. After eating it, her entire esophagus felt burning. Oh my god, I wonder if I'll suffer internal injuries?!

Liu glared at her daughter. Some women around them were already looking this way, and she was very worried that these people had bad intentions.

Upon receiving her mother's signal, Qin San Niang dared not disobey and quickly went to the stream to fetch water to boil. Fortunately, there was still plenty of water available.

Many migrants passing by sighed and shook their heads when they saw that the family's earthenware pot was filled with water. What kind of world is this? Compared to them, their lives were a little better. Although the rice porridge was so clear that you could count the number of grains, it still had some taste of grain, which was much better than plain water!

While walking in the afternoon, Liu broke her leg. This was understandable, as even though it was an official road, years of neglect and exposure to wind and sun had left the road in poor condition. It was full of potholes and stones, which was very unfriendly to someone like Liu with a bad leg.

Qin San Niang immediately made a decision: the whole family would stop resting and wait until Grandma's leg was a little better before continuing.

Liu didn't dare to push herself anymore. She felt that her leg was a bit swollen. She had applied a plaster last night and it had gotten much better, but she didn't expect... In the end, it was her carelessness that caused trouble for her daughter and child!

When the children heard that Grandma's leg was hurt again, they all rushed over to check on her. Little A-Nan pouted and blew on it, saying, "Grandma, don't be afraid, A-Nan will blow on it and it won't hurt anymore!"

Look at her, what an adorable young lady!

The other two little adults, who were not good at speaking, also surrounded Liu and asked her all sorts of questions. Didn't they see that Grandma's eyes were red?

Human babies are indeed the most healing!

Qin San Niang quickly told them to sit down on the side, as her mother wanted to see her grandmother's legs.

Although he didn't know when his mother had learned to read legs, the eldest son knew that their maternal grandmother was a female healer, and whispered to his younger brother and sister that it wasn't strange, because all of their family members could read legs! Of course, the stepmother and her children didn't count, as they weren't his family.

Okay, whatever you say! What a good son who knows how to defend his mother!

Liu's right calf had started to swell, it seemed that the fall had aggravated the previous fracture. This was indeed a tricky situation. "Mother, you can't walk anymore with that leg, otherwise it will be really troublesome. Let me see if I can think of a solution."

What can be done in this desolate wilderness? Those refugees? They won't help.

Liu waved her hand, indicating that she could walk again after resting for a while. Although there was some swelling, it would be fine after applying cool water.

Qin San Niang didn't say anything more, only telling her to rest first. She then took a small ice cube from the supermarket, wrapped it in several layers of burlap, and gently placed it on Liu's injured leg. This would alleviate the swelling to some extent, but that wouldn't do much more.

There was no other way; she planned to go to the nearby hillside to gather some herbs to apply to Liu's sore throat, and also brew some pain-relieving herbs for her to drink, otherwise the pain would still persist throughout the night. It was all forced upon her!

All of that is easy to talk about, but how to solve the travel problem is a real headache.

Just as Qin San Niang was carefully identifying the medicinal herbs, she heard a commotion in the distance. She didn't intend to meddle, firstly because of her limited abilities, and secondly because identifying herbs was a real challenge for a forensic doctor like her who dealt with the dead. It was only thanks to her father being a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner that she was able to manage; otherwise, she would have been completely lost. Even so, she wasn't very good at it, but she was more than capable of treating simple colds and inflammations.

Because she didn't follow in her family's footsteps and instead went into the field of forensic medicine, her father was furious. He said that it was really inappropriate for a beautiful young girl like her to do this kind of work, and that the smell of corpses and formaldehyde mixed together would affect her appetite. In short, the old man reluctantly sent her to the Armed Police Medical College, and even when she graduated and was looking for a job, he still hoped that she would not be successfully recruited.

Qin San Niang gathered all the necessary herbs, and if they were effective, she could gather more. Fortunately, these herbs were not well-known to ordinary people, and the refugees were afraid of poisoning and dared not use them to fill their stomachs. Besides, some of the herbs were not suitable for consumption because they had thorns.

The commotion in the distance continued. Qin San Niang put down her basket and listened. Where in life is there no gossip? It turned out that a family was arguing about dividing their property.

The family seemed to be trying to kick a sick woman out. The woman's husband remained silent, but the woman's daughter refused, so they started arguing!

After listening for a while, even Qin San Niang, an outsider, was speechless. Although her family consisted of orphans and widows, fortunately, none of them were such extreme cases. As for her stepmother-in-law, that extreme case, she had already left before she arrived. Otherwise, she wouldn't be the original owner of this body and wouldn't be able to suffer abuse on the spot. Fighting with others is endlessly enjoyable!

However, given her current situation—being alone and vulnerable with several dependents—Qin San Niang had no intention of getting involved or standing up for anyone. She reasoned that such things were too common these days, and no one could control them.

After a noisy half hour, the group finally set off.

Finally, Qin San Niang saw a woman and a plump girl left behind not far away. There were only two small bundles on the wheelbarrow in front of them. The woman was lying on the side of the wheelbarrow, crying incessantly and muttering curses.

The people around moved forward expressionlessly, ignoring the mother and child. Even though they weren't very close, Qin San Niang could sense the woman's helplessness.

Being abandoned by her family was nothing compared to the fact that her husband, whom she considered her pillar of support, wouldn't stand up for her. That was truly despairing. If it weren't for her daughter, Qin San Niang felt that even women would contemplate suicide.

With a sigh, Qin San Niang thought to herself that her own family was barely scraping by, and she had no time to sympathize with this woman.

She turned around and started brewing medicine for her mother. The medicine needed to be decocted twice. To ensure its efficacy, she planned to decoct it twice and mix the two decoctions together for Liu to take. She also planned to wash and crush the other herbs for reducing swelling and relieving pain and apply them externally.

At this moment, she was very distressed that there were no medicinal herbs in the supermarket. If she could find a pharmacy, she would like to buy more herbs and store them. She couldn't possibly dig and brew them every time!
