Was Qin San Niang an ordinary person? Of course not!
That afternoon, the group swaggered into the Si residence.
Guo Er and Ergen had never seen such a beautiful house before, and they praised it highly. When the owner told them they were there to help clean, they had imagined it to be dilapidated and difficult to maintain. But it turned out to be so clean and tidy; they didn't actually have much work to do.
He wiped the table in the hall; there wasn't a speck of dust on it. Guo Er wondered, "This house is usually cleaned, so why did the owner send them over?"
Seeing the young master standing warily in the courtyard, Ergeng scurried over, but after asking around for a long time, he couldn't get any information. He only said that he should just follow his mother's instructions.
Seeing everyone's suspicion, Qin San Niang walked over with a smile, carrying a large bundle in her hand.
"What do you think of this house?"
"Very good, very good."
"I've never seen such a beautiful house before! Did the owner just buy it?"
Guo Er and the others congratulated him with smiles.
Da Wa and Lu Song exchanged a glance, then looked at Qin San Niang with a puzzled expression.
Qin Sanniang smiled mysteriously, "This house is also mine, but someone is trying to take advantage of it and is playing tricks on me here."
Upon hearing this, Guo Er and his companion suddenly understood. No wonder their employer had brought them here; it was for this reason. They immediately declared righteously, "Who has the audacity to do such a despicable thing?! Employer, you tell us what to do!"
The two men rubbed their hands together, ready to give the thief a good beating!
Guo Er had no doubt about Qin San Niang's judgment. If there really were ghosts and gods, then why didn't the bandits, who had all died at the hands of the bandits, receive any retribution? Why were the men, women, and children of Yangliu Street, mostly kind-hearted people, so pitifully bullied?
Clearly, the idea of ghosts and gods is pure nonsense!
To avoid being bullied, you must become strong! Even if it's a real ghost, they're not afraid! I wasn't born to be scared!
Qin Sanniang thought to herself, "Brilliant!" After much consideration, she decided that Guo Er and his group were the most suitable. They came from humble backgrounds, were bold, and had no fear of ghosts or gods. Furthermore, they were familiar with the people on the street, so she wasn't worried about arresting someone she wouldn't recognize.
So, Qin San Niang explained her plan to them, and everyone understood and said it was a brilliant idea.
So everyone busied themselves in the house, trimming the flowers and plants and cleaning the pavilions and corridors. In the afternoon, Guo Er and Ergen took their leave.
That night, Lu Song and Da Wa stared wide-eyed outside, neither of them feeling sleepy. It must be said that they hadn't felt scared during the day because of the bright sunshine, but at night, the cold wind blew and the bells from the distant clock tower rang out. Being in this empty courtyard was indeed a bit eerie!
Even so, they still believed their mother/aunt's judgment that the ghost was fake!
At the beginning of Hai hour (9-11 PM), Da Wa put down his book, nodded to Lu Song, who understood and blew out the candle. Immediately afterward, the light in the room next door, Qin San Niang's room, also went out.
The entire Si residence was plunged into darkness.
Having just finished resting, Qin Sanniang now perched on the pear tree by the door like an owl, eager to see which mountain ghost dared to linger here!
Da Wa and Lu Song, each carrying a weapon, lay in ambush inside the house, holding their breath.
After midnight, the chill permeated the earth, and even Qin San Niang couldn't help but shiver. Fortunately, she had put on thermal underwear beforehand.
Before long, they heard a rustling sound from inside the wall. A little while later, Da Wa and Lu Song came out to relieve themselves, and just then they heard an owl's call from the other side...
On the other side of the wall, a white shadow slowly rose. As it rose higher, the shadow grew larger and larger. When it was fully revealed, it really did look like a ghost... with long hair that covered its entire face. If you didn't look closely, it really did look like one.
Standing on high ground, Qin San Niang could tell at a glance that this thing was fake; she guessed that someone was fishing for a dummy in the tree next door! Sure enough, looking down at the tree opposite, she saw two people struggling to manipulate the rope!
Da Wa and Lu Song were stunned. Even though they already knew that the thing was fake, and their mother and Brother Guo were around, they still felt a chill run down their spines when they suddenly saw it!
Not to mention them, even Guo Er and Ergen were startled when they suddenly saw this lifelike ghost! They thought to themselves, this "ghost" really went all out, coming out to scare people in the middle of the night instead of sleeping. If someone with a weak constitution were to be frightened, they would definitely develop some kind of health problem.
Fortunately, they were used to seeing all sorts of monsters and demons, and by the moonlight, the two of them saw that there was a faint rope tied behind the "ghost".
With a coordinated "howl," the two older children took off running, shouting "Help...help..." and quickly went inside.
The "ghosts" in the tree exchanged a knowing smile. "Hehe, we scared away three more!"
They waved the rope, pulling the "ghost" around twice in the air. Only after confirming that no one dared to go out did they leisurely pull the "ghost" back, tear off the rope, and prepare to retreat.
"Brother, it's just two little kids and a woman. After all this fuss, we should probably leave by now, right?" one of them asked as he tidied up.
"Hmm. This thing is well made. Wasn't that man frightened into illness the other day? I heard he's too scared to even get close."
The man called "boss" snorted, "After this one, that's about it. As long as everyone knows this is a haunted house, no one else will dare to approach."
"Yeah, boss! We can go back to sleep for a bit. But this thing is really realistic! Hey, even I'm scared, let alone strangers!"
Another man, who was tidying up the "ghost" prop, couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
A gust of cold wind blew, plunging the house into darkness. Fallen leaves rustled, adding an eerie touch to the silent night.
Qin San Niang herself also felt it was very "underworld".
"Stop talking nonsense and hurry up and get ready to leave," the man said, and the two of them quickly jumped down from the tree.
Perhaps because they were in too much of a hurry, the two of them didn't notice anyone behind them when they reached the tree, and were knocked unconscious by Guo Er and his companion who were waiting nearby.
When the two woke up again, they vaguely saw a black-faced Yama sitting in the hall, flanked by two men dressed in black and white robes and wearing tall official hats. The two men were thin, pale, and had long tongues sticking out of their mouths. One official hat had the words "Peace Under Heaven" written on it, and the other official hat had the words "Instant Wealth Upon Seeing" written on it.
Aren't those the Black and White Impermanence, the two ghost messengers?
The surrounding area was flashing with green light and swirling with white mist. Oh my god, they've accidentally wandered into the underworld!
Normally, these two would have been suspicious, since they were just faking ghosts to scare people. But Qin San Niang was using modern cosplay, and the props were readily available from the supermarket, which was not something that could be obtained at this time.
