Chapter 191 Being Followed

Even though there were hawthorns in the shop, Xiao Wu still thanked them happily! This was a great benefactor of the shop. Heaven knows that he had offended her at the very beginning. Fortunately, Madam Qin was magnanimous and forgave him. That's why they were able to slap Chen Ji in the face later. Oh, it was really gratifying!

After saying goodbye to Xiao Wu, Qin San Niang led Da Wa'er out of the shop through the back door.

From a corner unseen by the two, a pair of eyes watched them as they walked away...

At Chen's Pastry Shop, Chen Yushan's face was clouded with gloom, and his narrow eyes were brimming with barely contained ferocity!

He had been plotting for so long, and it seemed like it was all going to work out, but unexpectedly, the other party managed to turn the tables! It was infuriating!

A moment later, the butler rushed into the hall, clasped his hands in greeting, and said, "Master, there's news from Manager Si!"

"Oh? Tell me, how many reports have you submitted in the past two weeks? I haven't seen you find any real clues!" Chen Yushan said coldly.

As his butler, who knew him well, how could he not know that this was a harbinger of impending doom? He knew his master's character all too well: ruthless, cold-blooded, and hated nothing more than his subordinates failing to perform their duties.

"Our men saw a woman with a child of about six years old coming out of the backyard of Siji Pastry Shop today. They seemed very familiar with the place. Moreover, Xiao Wu, the shop's waiter, who is also Sili Ren's servant, personally escorted them out, showing them great respect."

The steward glanced at his master's expression and continued, "Judging from that woman's clothes, she is just an ordinary village woman, around thirty years old. She is not the mistress of any household in the county."

To be honest, although Sili Ren was a son of a concubine, he was still a prominent figure in He County. Not to mention that he had distant relatives who served as officials in the imperial court, he himself was a shrewd businessman who had accumulated considerable wealth over the years and was known for his philanthropy. Ordinary peasant women would not have caught his eye, and the servant would not have been so enthusiastic and attentive, even neglecting his business at the front!

"Then what? Did you find out what this woman's name was? Where did she live?" Chen Yushan questioned, and after careful consideration, he realized that there were indeed some things that didn't make sense.

"Back to the host, it's strange, but before we even left the city gate, the woman seemed to realize she was being followed, and she started leading our people in circles."

Before long, both the people and the car had vanished without a trace, even though we had sent out quite a few people!

Thinking about this, the butler was also very puzzled. It was as if it had vanished into thin air, and he still didn't understand what had happened!

You have to understand, this county isn't very big, with only four main streets running east, west, north, and south. The woman driving the carriage could only travel on the main streets; she couldn't possibly go into the alleys. Yet, these dozen or so people searched and blocked both ends of the main streets, but they couldn't find a trace of the carriage!

Hearing this, Chen Yushan also looked puzzled. He knew his servants well; he had trained them extensively over the years. Besides, this was just a tracking mission, not a particularly difficult one, especially in a small place like He County. So… that woman wasn't simple, or perhaps someone was helping her from behind!

But since Sili Ren has gone to another place, he shouldn't be involved. So the most likely possibility is that the woman has some connections!

Was the woman's carriage heading towards the city gate? Having figured this out, Chen Yushan instructed, "From today onwards, add two more people to the Siji shop to keep watch, and the rest of you will stake out the city gate, paying particular attention to pedestrians driving carriages!"

The fact that Si Ji was able to be brought back from the brink of death must mean that someone helped him, causing his year's worth of hard work to go to waste!

The master was already somewhat displeased, but unfortunately, the Si family couldn't be offended too much, so they could only deal with it slowly.

However, to avoid any unforeseen complications, the master forbade him to use any extreme measures. Otherwise, how could that scoundrel Sili Ren have occupied the house for so long?! The only way now is to find clues from the source of this recipe in order to suppress Siji Pastry Shop. Only in this way will Sili Ren willingly hand over the house.

It is said that Qin Sanniang had a habit of taking a short nap at noon, and she did the same during the escape, even if it was just for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea. However, Da Wa's driving skills were not yet entirely reassuring, so Qin Sanniang kept watch at the door of the carriage in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

This quick glance made her realize something was wrong; she and her son were being followed!

"Big brother, slow down, don't rush out of the city, wander around these streets." He patted the big brother on the shoulder to signal him not to be nervous, and then climbed into the carriage to take a look.

Although Da Wa was honest and simple, he wasn't stupid, especially after fleeing all the way and encountering several crises. He knew that whenever his mother spoke so seriously, something must have happened. So, he forced himself to calm down and drove slowly along the road as his mother instructed.

The followers behind them didn't understand why the carriage suddenly turned back. They assumed the carriage was looking for its way home, so they followed. However, the carriage had already passed through the four streets in all directions and still showed no sign of stopping. They realized that they had probably been discovered.

The burly man at the head of the group was extremely anxious. He had a date with the darling of Peony Pavilion that night, and this was going to waste so much time!

Butler Wang simply told them to find out where the family lived, and they could just tie them up and ask them questions. Why go through all this trouble? What good could a frail woman and a baby who hadn't even grown up yet do?! So they decided to catch them like turtles in a jar.

When she saw them gathering together and intending to surround her carriage, Qin San Niang had Da Wa drive the carriage into the alley, and then immediately put the people and horses into her spatial storage.

Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps was heard, followed by someone shouting, "You idiot, where's the carriage here? Are you trying to trick the boss?!"

"How could that be? I clearly saw the carriage enter the alley, didn't I? Iron Ball?"

The man called Iron Ball hurriedly responded, "My goodness, could that be a witch? How could such a big carriage just disappear like that?!"

"You son of a bitch, what kind of witch?! Stop spreading rumors..."

...

Ignoring the chaos outside, Qin San Niang glanced around. The backyard in the space was large enough, and Da Wa'er had already fallen into a deep sleep. Taking advantage of this time, she scattered the seeds in her hand on the already turned ground.

She had already turned over a third of the land in the backyard; it would be good to plant some vegetables and fruits as appropriate.

There are no seasons in this space. She plans to plant some rice, wheat, and other grain crops in the future. She wonders if this will shorten the ripening time and increase the yield. She will have to observe these things carefully.
