Chapter 10 A Bad Feeling

Besides, Zhen Wanwan also saw several familiar figures.

However, these families rarely interacted with her own, and since her parents hadn't spoken, she wouldn't bother asking them.

The Zhen family had already communicated with the escort agency, who said they would depart at 9:00 AM and meet at the city gate. They also advised the Zhen and Zhou families to go into the city to buy some necessities for the journey.

Zhen Fugui replied honestly, "This was bought by the girl."

"Father, I'm thinking that with so much stuff, pushing the cart ourselves might slow us down and cause trouble for the escort agency. So I was thinking of buying a donkey to pull the cart."

Zhen Wanwan explained from the side while helping to load her own belongings into the car.

Upon hearing this, Grandpa Zhen's mouth moved, but he didn't say anything. He looked at Grandma Li with a questioning look.

The two people on the side were keeping each other in suspense, but Zhen Wanwan didn't care. Anyway, the donkey had already been bought, and it was too late to regret it.

Soon, around 9:00 AM, a large group of people emerged from the city, numbering at least thirty. At the head were the guards of a wealthy family, followed by several unassuming carriages, and at the back were several carts laden with luggage.

Zhen Wanwan noticed that there were maids and guards beside the carriage, indicating that the people inside were all wealthy and noble.

Lin, the head镖师 (bodyguard/escort), followed at the very back of the group. After leaving the city, he quickly signaled to the Zhen family and the Zhou family, along with several other families who followed behind them.

Although both families were quite bewildered, they still obediently followed behind Lin's镖局 (bodyguard agency), because escaping was the most important thing, no matter what.

Currently, Grandpa Zhen is leading a donkey, Zhen Fugui is pushing a cart, and the Zhou brothers are also pushing their own carts. The children are sitting on several carts, which is quite easy for them.

Xiao Hu and Nini were placed on the donkey cart by Grandpa Zhen. There was still room for them, so that they could put some things there when they picked up Zhen's second son's family.

Sigh, Zhen Wanwan sighed. Even if they bought a car, she couldn't get a ride. Although she was pregnant, in farming families, pregnant women have to work in the fields for ten months. Even so, her parents still doted on her. This miserable life was really hard.

When can we finally lie down and relax?

It seems she still needs to find a way to buy another one, but for now, she'll just have to walk.

Looking at the escort agency ahead of them, Zhen Wanwan felt confused. Didn't her second brother say that Chief Escort Lin didn't bring women with him when he escorted goods?

By the way, didn't her second brother say the family would meet at Poziwan? Why haven't we seen them yet?

Zhen Wanwan had only been in the world for a day when her second sister-in-law went back to her parents' home some time ago. Just thinking about her sister-in-law's personality from her memories gave her a headache. She hoped that the journey would be peaceful.

"I don't know if the second son's family is waiting at the village entrance. It'll be another 15 minutes' walk from there."

Grandma Li was a little anxious, looking ahead with a heavy heart, trying to find the figure of Zhen Lao Er's family.

"Old woman, don't worry about it. Didn't we already tell him yesterday that he'd be waiting at the village entrance?"

Grandpa Zhen wiped the sweat from his brow, took a few sips of water, and said, "Eldest brother, go ask Chief Escort Lin where they plan to rest. If the second brother's family hasn't arrived yet, I'll lag behind a few steps, pick them up, and then head to find you!"

Zhen Wanwan frowned. There were so many people on the road. What if they got separated?

Soon, the group arrived at Poziwan. They didn't see Zhen's family at the intersection. Grandpa Zhen's face darkened. Apart from the children, everyone who knew the inside story was secretly anxious.

Old Mrs. Li was so angry she jumped up and down: "That second son's family are all troublemakers! They just can't stand up for themselves when it matters..."

To be honest, Zhen Wanwan was also somewhat dissatisfied. In chaotic times, the most annoying people are those who hold others back and those who act like saints.

We set off at 9:00 AM and arrived here about half an hour later, around 10:00 AM.

Zhen Wanwan thought that Zhen Fuzi should have packed his things by now, no matter what, and shouldn't have arrived so late.

Grandpa Zhen was furious. He pulled over the donkey cart, gave them a few simple instructions, and then ran up to Lin the镖头 (bodyguard) and whispered in his ear. He saw that Lin wanted to go to the village to find someone.

Zhen Wanwan felt a little flustered, because there were many people following behind the convoy!

If a family travels separately, they are more likely to get separated, and the probability of encountering dangers on the road will also increase.

"Father, do you think we should wait for Second Brother together? What if we get separated in this chaos of war?"

“Wanwan is right, we can’t afford to disperse in this situation,” Grandma Li agreed.

Wang Juhua nodded repeatedly. If her father-in-law passed away, her family, apart from her husband, consisted mostly of women and children. If anything happened, wouldn't her husband be the one to step up?

The Zhou brothers nodded without hesitation.

"Uncle, just listen to Wanmei. We'll wait with you. If we go our separate ways, we might run into danger."

Although Zhou Dashan is young, he has seen a lot, especially in the current context of famine, where the weak are bullied and it is best for everyone to stick together.

Old Mrs. Li looked at Old Mr. Zhen with teary eyes, also hating her second son for being so useless, unable to even take care of a wife and children.

The group had no time to think, because the convoy had already started to move far away, and if they hesitated any longer, they would really fall behind.

"What's going on with you guys? The boss called me over to ask what's going on, so we don't delay the journey."

Seeing that the group hadn't caught up yet, Chief Escort Lin sent a bodyguard over to inquire about the situation.

"Young man, please don't mind. My second son's family hasn't arrived yet, so we thought we'd stay and wait for them."

Grandpa Zhen stepped forward and spoke with the bodyguards, shamelessly saying, "You don't need to wait for us."

He secretly handed another steamed bun to the bodyguard and said with a simple smile, "I wonder if it's convenient for you to tell us where the caravan is planning to rest for lunch? We'll hurry up and catch up with you after we pick up the people."

Upon hearing this, the bodyguard sized up the group and then said, "Alright, but we'll wait for you for a maximum of fifteen minutes. If you still haven't arrived, don't blame our escort agency!"

"Yes, yes, I understand. We'll catch up with you as soon as we get the person. If we don't make it in time, please tell Chief Escort Lin not to wait for us."

As soon as Grandpa Zhen finished speaking, the bodyguard mentioned a location. They had traveled all over the country and had been on this road many times, so they were very familiar with it.

Time waits for no one. After saying goodbye to the bodyguards, Zhen Wanwan and the others were about to turn onto a side path.

A handsome man was carrying a child in one arm, while a plain-looking young woman was also rushing over with a child in her hand.

Several households followed behind them, including an old woman who looked very much like a young woman leading a child.

"Father, Mother..." Zhen Lao Er's face was gloomy, and he didn't even glance at his wife beside him.

Li Zhenzhen felt very wronged when she saw her husband ignoring her. She was also angry and hid behind Zhen Lao Er, and she didn't give Zhen's parents a good look either.

"Second son's wife, did you have your mouth sewn shut? Or are you blind? You don't even know how to call your parents."

Old Mrs. Li initially liked this daughter-in-law quite a bit, but she was also very difficult and did many things that were disliked.

“Father…Mother…” Li Zhenzhen felt even more aggrieved. As expected, she wasn’t her biological mother. This mother-in-law was even treating her badly in front of her own mother.

Her life is so miserable!
