Chapter 182 Intern Number Two
The wine in the Lox has been replaced with a mixed vegetable juice!
Charlotte Linlin's various flavors of cakes and cream puffs have all been replaced with pumpkin cookies!
The tobacco that Shiki treasured has been replaced with dried seaweed!
John's treasure map has been replaced with a fundraising flyer for impoverished children!
Bang!
Shiki slammed his fist on the table, his mouth full of the salty, fishy smell of dried seaweed, and angrily gulped down a large mouthful of light beer.
"Isn't Rocks going to do anything about this?!"
Shiki now understands how those lower-ranking pirates felt back then, after he prematurely activated his Float-Float Fruit ability and was left on the enemy ship when they went to war with the Navy and Roger's Pirates.
This is truly a battle of gods, and they're the ones who suffer!
It's one thing for Rocks and that girl named Vera to insist on playing hide-and-seek on the Sword of Gybeck—after all, Rocks is the captain, so let's just say he's a child at heart.
But he didn't say he wanted to play. He didn't want to play. Give him back his cigar! Damn it!
"And you, Newgate!"
Newgate, who was silently drinking, put down his glass without a word upon hearing this, and gave Shiki a puzzled look, as if asking Shiki what this had to do with him.
"How can it not concern you? If it has nothing to do with you, how do you explain it, Newgate? Even the captain's collection was damaged, but you didn't lose anything or anything."
Newgate: "..."
Newgate: "I don't know."
He couldn't explain why, after all the named men on the ship were being brutally murdered one by one, Newgate, though nervous, was actually prepared for his own collection to be replaced with something inexplicable.
In any case, he never trusted anyone from the Rocks Pirates. He scattered his treasures in various places, some buried deep in islands known only to him, and others entrusted to the people on Sphinx Island for management.
Since the most important treasure wouldn't be damaged, Newgate, though a little unaccustomed to the feeling that he might lose it at any moment, maintained a relatively normal mindset.
But to everyone's surprise, even after waiting and waiting, and even though it was Skye's second turn, Newgate hadn't lost a single thing.
If he hadn't just done a thorough cleaning and taken inventory of everything, Newgate wouldn't have believed the result.
He was certain he had never met the girl named Violet. When she arrived at Beehive Island and found Rocks, he did feel sorry for her, thinking that Rocks might kill her, but he had no intention of contradicting Rocks for the sake of someone he had only met once.
Newgate had no idea why he was the only survivor.
Faced with Shiki's questioning, he could only lower his brows and casually say, as if he didn't want to talk to Shiki any longer, "Who knows, maybe it's just not my turn yet."
Flameflower: "It's amazing. The Sword of Gibbe is only this big, and we haven't stopped or docked at all along the way. Now, even we, besides the captain, scan the ship with our Observation Haki every now and then."
In this situation, they can find not only a living person, but even an ant.
Flameflower, resting her chin on her hand, remarked with admiration, "At least in terms of boldness and the ability to conceal her whereabouts, she is strong enough."
Although the dessert was changed twice, the replaced desserts were delicious and of a type that she had never eaten before, so Lingling had a pretty good impression of Vera.
The reason Lingling is so actively searching for people now is because she wants to find Vera in advance and get the recipes for these desserts from her, so that Vera won't be found and killed by someone else, causing her to never be able to eat those delicious foods again.
Of course, for the sake of those cookies and cakes, if Rocks were to actually decide to execute Violet, she would say a few good words for him.
The treasured jewels were replaced with a different but higher-quality type of Flameflower, who also said in a relaxed tone: "At least she made an indelible contribution to the environmental sanitation of the Sword of Gibbe."
As the former captain of the Kuja Pirates, Flame Flower, who had lived on a pirate ship with only girls for many years, looked down on the hygiene habits of the current crew of smelly men.
With Vera around, and the fear that their treasured possessions might mysteriously disappear one day, everyone became more diligent in tidying up.
Newgate finished his drink, got up listlessly, and went back to his room, turning to place the Murakumogiri aside. His Observation Haki habitually scanned the room, and the next second, Newgate wore a strange expression, his mouth opening and closing as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately he closed his mouth and silently walked into the bathroom.
Newgate looked at the shelf where toiletries were kept. The bottle of the ship's standard 13-in-1 toiletries was gone, replaced by a complete set of unopened shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner, and...
After several more seconds of silence, Newgate finally reached out and picked up the bottle with the card stuck to it.
"A powerful anti-hair loss shampoo and conditioner, a savior for middle-aged men?"
After reading the boastful words on the bottle, Newgate looked at the card again, completely bewildered.
"Once upon a time, there was a handsome man with brilliant blond hair. The children he adopted felt safest when they could see that golden ocean. But he never took care of his hair, and later he grew weak and went bald... This story teaches us that even the thickest hair needs to be protected."
"Otherwise, the biggest enemy of middle-aged men—balding—will come knocking on their door!"
Newgate: "..."
With a blond man and an adopted child involved, the person who wrote this line must have practically plastered the fact that the story was based on Newgate on his forehead.
He raised his hand and rubbed his thick, golden hair, dismissing the story with disdain.
"Kuralalala, how could I possibly be bald?!"
Look at the quality and thickness of his hair; he'll never go bald, no matter who else is.
Without a second thought, Newgate tossed the anti-hair loss serum into a corner. As for the shampoo and conditioner sets, although they were a bit simple and troublesome compared to the standard 13-in-1 set on the ship, Newgate decided to make good use of them, considering the difficulty of Violet getting them onto the ship and then replacing them without anyone noticing.
Just as he was secretly admiring Violet's ingenious ideas and powerful stealth, a familiar voice suddenly rang out throughout the entire ship.
"Vell, get to the captain's cabin in three minutes!"
"Kurara!"
Although it wasn't particularly serious, and it wasn't in Lox's area of expertise, Violet was undoubtedly the victor in this battle.
Seeing Rocks get his comeuppance makes the long time he spent at sea trying to capture Val, even running out of light beer, worth it.
Newgate strode out of the room, eager to witness the scene of Lockes's humiliation, and also curious about where Val had been hiding for so long.
After he left the room, he was not surprised to see that the group of guys who had been drinking had all come up to the deck, their eyes all fixed on the captain's cabin.
After shouting his words, Lockes left, but the door to the captain's cabin remained ajar. The lower-ranking crew members hunched over, afraid to peek out, lest they become the target of the captain's wrath.
rustling, rustling...
Newgate noticed a potted plant not far away that had strangely long legs that started moving on their own... Wait, when did they get such a big potted plant on their ship?!
He recalled that he had indeed been finding this ridiculously lush bonsai in various places over the past few days, but his subconscious had made him ignore its existence.
Is this Violet's ability?
After the potted plant started moving, everyone except Newgate noticed that something was wrong.
With a whoosh, Violet suddenly stood up, took off the [bush hat] from her head, and put it in her backpack.
Hiding among a ship full of skilled Observation Haki users is no easy task. The [Bush Hat] allows Violet to perfectly disguise herself as a bush, and she won't be suspected no matter how outlandish the place she appears in.
However, this effect will disappear immediately once you move, attack, or are hit.
These guys use their Observation Haki like searchlights every day, with the frequency and duration completely random. It can only be said that thanks to the personal training of the future Rocks, Violet's Observation Haki is no less than those who have not yet grown into future big shots on the sea. And the strongest, Rocks, is so familiar with Violet that he can predict her movements in advance, which is why Violet has safely gotten through these past few days.
Although it was tiring, it was all worth it!
As she put the [bush hat] back into her backpack, Violet took out an unopened bottle of liquor from it.
This is not a beverage from this era, but rather a drink brewed by a sea restaurant using corn and potatoes from La Leyen after collaborating with Vil.
In his future soul form, Lox had asked Violet for a lot of drinks under the pretext of "tuition fees," and even though he was as stubborn as he was, he mostly praised this particular bottle.
Tsk tsk tsk, such words of praise were never said to her by Lox before.
Violet walked into the captain's cabin with a bottle of wine in her hand, and then, much to the dismay of the onlookers, she turned around and closed the door.
"snort."
Lox, sitting arrogantly in his chair with his legs propped up on the table, scoffed at Wille's actions.
"What, you finally have the guts to come out and see me?"
It was clearly Lox who conceded defeat in this round, okay... Well, considering the logic of the whole game, it could be argued that she had been avoiding Lox the whole time.
Having already gained considerable experience in communicating with Lox, Vera nodded: "If you call me, of course I'll come out."
"Heh." Lox chuckled lightly, glancing at Violet with raised eyelids. "Where's my wine?"
His tone and movements remained unchanged, but Vera knew that he was in a much better mood.
Violet obediently walked to the shop window and restored Lockes' collection. Just as she was about to turn around, she found that Lockes had somehow appeared behind her.
Although she was at the bottom of the height group when standing among the crew, it was only when she stood behind him that Violet realized that this guy was also much taller than her.
Locke's gaze swept over Violet's head, looking at his collection. After a pause, he said in a deep voice, "One bottle is missing."
"..." That bottle was given to Shanks.
Violet smiled and held up the bottle of wine in her hand: "I'll use this instead. Trust me, you'll absolutely love it."
This was personally certified by the future Rocks.
Lox glanced at Violet silently again, then took the bottle of wine: "If it doesn't taste very good..."
He didn't say much more after that, but the threat was obvious.
Locke took a wine glass from the wine cabinet, poured himself a glass, and drank it by himself without any intention of sharing with Violet.
After taking his first sip of wine, Lox couldn't help but turn around and glance at Violet again.
Violet: ?
Locke didn't say much and quickly looked away, drinking the wine in his glass one sip at a time until it was all gone.
"It's barely edible."
Vera raised an eyebrow, deciding not to take Locke's stubborn assessment, which was completely opposite to her future self, to heart.
"Well, considering how hard you've worked, I'll give you a chance to follow me."
"However, the rule of the Rocks Pirates is that everyone who boards the ship must be observed as an apprentice for a period of time before they can become a full-fledged crew member."
Valerie didn't quite believe what Lockes said, after all, she found it hard to imagine Mr. Newgate and Senior Linlin squatting down to wipe the deck.
However, considering that Shanks is also one of the Four Emperors, but he was just an apprentice after joining the crew, Violet felt that this was not so hard to accept.
Vera humbly asked the captain, "Should I also wipe the deck?"
“You don’t need to wipe the deck,” Lockes said with a smile, pointing his thumb behind him. “The blankets, sheets, and clothes in the room can be washed and hung up to dry.”
"By the way, wash it by hand."

Author's Note: Seeing everyone's replies saying they don't want to read the Rorschach-Rayet love triangle, I actually didn't want to write about the charming Shakky either. Even though I knew it was the author's setting, I still felt a strong sense of OOC discomfort when writing about these characters [crying emoji]. But in the story, Shakky's charm isn't just a background setting; it can even be said to be one of the triggers for the God Valley incident. I can only say Oda has done a lot of bad things [angry emoji].
I'll try to gloss over this later. By the way, do you guys like the couple Rocks and Alice? Although they didn't get much screen time, I really liked Alice's performance in God Valley. Rocks, you're so lucky to have such a great wife! [angry]
Damn it, I like Rocks and Alice but not their child Teach. How do I fix this?
