Shui Ling nodded emphatically, "I know, Princess didn't eat much for dinner tonight, she must have a lot on her mind."
Shuiyun was about to speak when a white shadow "whooshed" past.
The two were startled. After a moment, Shui Ling asked, "When did San Tiao go out?"
"I don't know, don't worry, it must have been ordered by the princess." Shuiyun couldn't help but laugh. "That lazybones, it's always hiding away, only the princess can get it to do anything."
In the side hall, Jiayin rubbed San Tiao's head and handed it two small dried fish as a reward.
The three chirped for a while before finally settling contentedly on the soft couch and starting to eat dried fish.
Jiayin walked slowly on the ground, her brows furrowed tightly.
Having watched so many palace intrigue and domestic dramas in her past life, she thought she was no novice. But when the moment actually came, and she witnessed a major upheaval involving the lives of many people, and even the fate of the nation, she still couldn't help but be stunned.
She was truly afraid that if she made even the slightest mistake, she might become like a butterfly flapping its wings, creating a huge storm somewhere and changing the original outcome.
Finally, having no other choice, she wrote down everything she knew and stuffed it into the three collars.
We'll just have to trouble the little fox to make another trip and take it home, so that my second uncle and his family can worry about it.
The little fox was very reluctant to continue running errands; on nights like this, who wouldn't want to snuggle up in a soft, warm bed and sleep soundly?
But the owner took out two fish cakes...
These fish cakes are made from a type of small fish that's a specialty of Quanzhou. The fish is ground up, mixed with sesame seeds, peanuts, and flour, and then baked. They smell delicious!
Well, the fox under the eaves has to bow down for the fish cake!
So, just as Shui Ling and Shui Yun were starting to doze off after the noise outside the door subsided, they were startled awake by the white figure that darted out...
The study in the Earl's mansion was very stuffy because the doors and windows were tightly closed.
Liu Zhiheng wiped the sweat from his forehead, took off his shirt, and then ate the chilled jade melon in large bites.
"It's so hot! Bring two more ice basins! Otherwise, I'm going to die here."
Li Lao Er and Mr. Wen were only wearing sleeveless jackets, fanning themselves, and drinking cold tea, so they didn't feel too hot.
Mr. Wen said, "If you eat a lighter diet, you won't find the summer heat unbearable once you lose weight."
Li Lao Er laughed and said, "We've already added four ice basins in the room. Adding any more would make you catch a cold. You're not overheated from the outside, you're overheated from the inside!"
Liu Zhiheng took the last bite of the red melon flesh, casually tossed away the rind, and sighed, "Indeed, I'm on edge, I'm really scared! Why are there so many problems when we could be living a peaceful life? It's made me lose my appetite lately."
Both Mr. Li and Mr. Wen laughed as they listened.
Liu Zhiheng arrived at dinner time. He ate half a plate of braised pork, two bowls of rice, a large fish soup, and two meat pies in one go...
How can you say you don't enjoy your food?
If you eat with such gusto, do you mean you'll gnaw on the table, chairs, and even the bowls and chopsticks until they're completely clean?
Liu Zhiheng felt somewhat embarrassed by their laughter and quickly changed the subject.
“My old man just sits there with a sullen face, slurping his tea. I can’t stand it. Luckily, I came here to wait for news with you guys, otherwise I’d probably be bored to death.”
The words had barely left his mouth when the window was suddenly flung open with a bang, startling everyone.
After finally regaining my senses, I looked up and saw the little fox standing on the table, chin held high in a smug manner, revealing the collar around its neck.
"Quick, quick! Let's see what message the princess sent!" Liu Zhiheng jumped up excitedly, his fat jiggling three times.
Mr. Wen couldn't bear to watch, but he had no time to laugh at him, so he quickly went to retrieve the collar.
Only Li Lao Er cut the jade melon into pieces the size of a fingernail, placed them on a plate, and pushed them to the little fox to quench its thirst.
The little fox swung its fluffy tail, rubbed against Li Lao Er's arm, and then lowered its head to eat the jade melon.
After finishing eating, even licking the melon juice clean, the little fox realized how quiet the room was.
It raised its little head and looked around. Li Lao Er, Mr. Wen, and Liu Zhiheng all frowned, standing motionless and silent like stone statues.
The little fox was a little anxious; it was waiting for a reply so it could go back and eat fish cakes!
"Chirp!" It nudged Li Lao Er's arm with its nose.
Li Lao Er woke up with a start, patted the little fox's head, then found paper and pen and wrote a few words.
All I wanted to tell my niece was to take good care of herself and not worry about the family. In the event of any danger, her own safety should be her top priority.
The little fox shook its collar contentedly, then resignedly darted back into the darkness.
Liu Zhiheng leaned against the window, took a few deep breaths of fresh air, then gritted his teeth and closed the window again, lowering his voice as he spoke.
"I thought the weather would change tomorrow, but it seems it will take a few more days."
"Yes, I'm afraid there's going to be a bloodbath!" Li Lao Er sighed.
Mr. Wen comforted her, saying, "Our family is the first and most reliable source of information. It's wise for us to protect ourselves and not get involved. Otherwise, we would be letting down the princess's concern."
"Don't worry, I'll talk to the old man when I get back tomorrow morning. He's 'recuperating' anyway, so he'll continue to stay home and not see anyone. Nobody will be able to get a word out of us!" Liu Zhiheng knew that Mr. Wen's words were more of a reminder, so he quickly made a promise.
The three of them didn't say anything more, sitting in silence and occasionally eating a piece of watermelon.
Unexpectedly, at that moment, thunder rumbled outside the window.
The three were pleasantly surprised and quickly opened the window, only to find that it was raining.
The raindrops were large and heavy, like popping beans, hitting my palm.
The three of them rushed into the courtyard like a gust of wind, all laughing.
"Oh dear, it's raining."
"This is wonderful news!"
"The crops in the field are saved!"
Unfortunately, perhaps it was a joke played by God, because the rain stopped after only a short while.
Li Lao Er's clothes were soaked through, and he couldn't help but say in annoyance, "Why did it stop? This isn't enough."
Mr. Wen also frowned, "I hope it rains a little longer outside the city."
Liu Zhiheng was anxious. "I'll go out of the city to check on it at dawn. I'm in charge of that experimental field where we did two crop rotations. Last winter's wheat was good, but if the corn planted late this year doesn't get irrigation, it will be a total crop failure."
The three of them talked and looked up at the sky. No matter how dissatisfied they were, there was nothing they could do.
Who can still grab God by the collar and ask a few questions?
There was also some commotion outside the mansion, indicating that the thunderstorm had woken many people up, and they had come out to celebrate.
Farmers outside the city would beat drums and gongs, or kneel down and weep.
Unfortunately, the rain stopped before the tears could fall to the ground.
Some people were so angry that they couldn't help but curse, but they didn't dare to blame God, so they could only take it out on their wives.
"Before dark, did you see the sky was overcast and rush to carry firewood? You idiot, you've taken all the rain!"
Two updates today!
