Chapter Fifty-Five: Restarting the Magic Game

Leaving aside how Wu Cuihua lived, it took the Li family two or three days to recover.

Jiayin's fever has subsided, and she can eat and drink normally again.

Everyone was relieved and began to eat and sleep without worry. Their dark circles had finally disappeared, and they no longer had to be anxious.

Jiaxi and Jia'an finally managed to go out to play with their friends, but the villagers caught them and questioned them for a long time.

I heard that Jiayin is much better, and the villagers are all happy.

"The poor child has really suffered."

"That's right, it's not even six months old yet."

Aunt Wu was kind-hearted and on good terms with the Li family. She took the initiative to go to the next village and find a seventy-year-old woman to write a "Soul-Binding Horse" calligraphy.

When the package was delivered to the Li family, it received heartfelt thanks from Mrs. Li and her daughter-in-law.

They were actually worried that Jiayin had been frightened and wanted to properly calm her spirit.

But we've only been here a short time, and we don't know any elderly people who can write this.

Unexpectedly, Aunt Wu helped solve the problem.

Aunt Wu was all smiles and kept waving her hand.

"It's all a small matter, not worth mentioning. I watched Fu Niu grow up, how could I bear to see her suffer?"

Old Mrs. Li sighed, "It's a misfortune for our family to have such a troublemaker. But because of our children and grandchildren, we can't really divorce him."

Aunt Wu patted her hand and tried to persuade her.

"Oh, dear sister, every family has one or two troublesome children. You're quite fortunate; apart from that one, all your other children and grandchildren are filial. And you have such a wonderful eldest granddaughter; others can only envy you."

Jiayin, dressed in a padded jacket and trousers, leaned against the pile of quilts. She occasionally made soft "ah-ah" sounds, responding to Aunt Wu.

The old lady was really frightened when she was taken away this time.

Even when I'm sleeping at night, I touch her more than ten times, afraid that I'll lose her again.

If things continue like this, she will get better, but the old lady will be left with chronic health problems.

Grandma Li tore off a cotton cloth to wipe her granddaughter's drool and sighed softly.

I hope this child suffers some hardships in childhood, but grows up to be safe and sound, free from illness and disaster.

When they went to town earlier, Liu the镖头 (bodyguard) was of great help, and the village chief also brought the villagers to support them.

The Li family couldn't possibly not express their gratitude, so Li Lao Er and Li Lao Si made a special trip to the city.

Li Laosi went to invite Liu Biaotou to his house for dinner the next day, while Li Laoer went to do some shopping.

We've already finished eating the pork from the Lunar New Year, so I'll buy another ten pounds.

I bought half a rack of pork ribs because they were cheap and had little meat.

There's also pig offal, which is rare to come by, so I'll have a set too.

We'll skip the japonica rice; we still have some at home. But we need to buy more fine flour.

Two jars of sorghum liquor were also needed; Liu the镖头 (bodyguard) and the villagers all liked them…

At noon, the two brothers met at the city gate and hurried home.

Jiayin was carried around the house by her grandmother, while Jia'an and Jiaxi followed behind, making funny faces.

Jiayin laughed from time to time, which was her way of supporting her brother.

Seeing that Li Lao Er had brought in so many things, Li Lao Tai quickly went to greet him.

I also watched all of Jia Yin's videos, and the more I watched, the more heartbroken I felt.

She has all these things in her little courtyard.

Unfortunately, I've been so frightened these past few days that I haven't been paying much attention to my family.

Tonight, I'm going to start playing the "bed magic trick" game with Grandma again...

Grandma Li held her granddaughter in her arms, and although she felt bad about spending money, she endured it.

When Tao Hongying and Zhao Yuru came in from outside, she gave them detailed instructions.

"Since we're expressing our gratitude, we should show some sincerity and not be stingy. Tomorrow, we'll steam a pot of fine flour buns for the guests, and we'll just have two portions ourselves!"

Also, prepare plenty of food; don't worry about using too much oil and meat. It's very kind of them to stand up for us in this crucial time. If we don't appreciate it, we'll have no face to ask them for help again in the future.”

"Yes, Mother, don't worry, I will make sure everything is arranged."

Tao Hongying quickly agreed, carefully checked the items, and named a few dishes.

"Mom, Second Brother bought a lot of meat, so let's make braised pork with dried vegetables. We'll also go to Aunt Wu's house to get some pickled cabbage and make pickled cabbage and pork rib stew. We also have rabbit at home, so we can have another meat dish."

Boil the pig offal in the water, and cook the pig liver until tender, then dip it in minced garlic. The rest can be braised; it'll be even better with drinks. That makes five dishes. Now, let's add a stir-fried cabbage and wood ear mushrooms dish, and a scrambled egg with scallions. Finally, we'll add a radish and meatball soup. How does that sound?

"Okay, that's the arrangement. Make as much of everything as possible," said Grandma Li, very satisfied with her daughter-in-law's cooking.

"Remember to fry some more dried fruit, so that when children come over, they won't come empty-handed."

"good."

After the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law discussed it and got to work, they began to get busy.

Pork offal is delicious, but difficult to prepare, so it's best to start early to avoid being busy the next day. That evening, after dinner, the large stove in the kitchen was set up to braise pork offal.

Jiayin perched on the old lady's shoulder, craning her neck to look outside, her mouth watering.

Grandma Li guessed it and laughed heartily.

"Little glutton, Grandma can't do anything about it. No matter how much you crave it, you can't eat it!"

Jiayin was so angry that she kicked her little feet wildly and rolled around on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Helpless, Old Lady Li finally called her grandson to the kitchen to say something.

"Chop off a spare rib and throw it in the pot to braise together. Tomorrow, let your sister have a taste and savor the flavor."

Jiaxi and Jia'an quickly ran to the kitchen to deliver the message: their little sister hadn't grown any teeth yet, so she could only taste it briefly; the rest would be their treat.

Some villagers stayed up late, drawn by the aroma wafting from the Li family's house.

People of all ages were drooling with envy.

"The Li family's daughter-in-law has really good cooking skills."

"Yeah, I don't know what to do, it smells so good."

Of course, it didn't take long for them to guess; the whole village knew the next day.

Chief镖头 Liu was a straightforward and generous man, and his wife was even more meticulous.

The reason for wanting to visit the Li family was because of the child that had gone missing before.

Therefore, Mrs. Liu prepared a generous gift.

Liu, the head镖师 (bodyguard/escort), carrying his son, hired a horse-drawn carriage to Qingshui Village.

By this time, the villagers had already arrived early.

Originally intending to help, the Li family had already made almost all the preparations.

Everyone gathered together, basking in the increasingly warm sun and chatting.

The Li brothers all went to the door to greet Liu the镖头 (bodyguard).

Not to mention, when he helped find Jiayin, Lao Si and Jiayi went out to work as镖师 (bodyguards/escorts), they received a lot of help from him.

Liu, the镖头 (bodyguard/escort), was a burly man with a ruddy complexion and a loud voice. He wore a narrow-sleeved jacket and trousers, paired with a black cloak, giving him a rather imposing and valiant air.

The youngest son of the Liu family was named Liu Yang. He was about the same size as Liu Jiayi, with a large and stout build, and always had a smiling face.

The villagers couldn't help but stand up, curious about when the Li family had befriended such a person.

The village chief was familiar with several villagers who had come to town that day. They greeted him and escorted Liu the镖头 (bodyguard) and his son inside.

Old Lady Li stood at the door with Jiayin in her arms. When she saw that Chief Escort Liu was about to bow, she quickly stopped him.

"Captain Liu, it was thanks to you that we were able to find Fu Niu'er. Fu Niu'er is still so young, I should be the one holding her and bowing to you."

As she spoke, the old lady bent down.

Liu, the镖头 (bodyguard), reached out and helped the old lady sit down.

"Auntie, please don't be so polite. Qiusheng and I are like brothers, and you are my elder. How can an elder bow to a junior!"

"Since you remember my kindness, please let Qiusheng go out with me more often in the future. You have no idea how much he's helped me with the escort team."

Who doesn't like their son to be praised? Old Mrs. Li smiled so much that the wrinkles around her eyes deepened.

"Okay, okay! As long as you think highly of him, let him go out with you more often to broaden his horizons."
