Chapter 109 First Confrontation
"Third Madam, this is indeed Mr. Zhao's biological daughter."
The Zhao family's driver lowered his head and spoke respectfully, "Miss, this is the third grandmother of the mansion, the wife of Mr. Zhao's cousin."
Su Cheng smiled, raised his hand to push down the hair on his temples, and was not afraid to meet the woman's gaze.
"Whether she's a daughter of the Zhao family or not, we'll have to examine her first." The woman half-closed her eyes, the flesh on her cheeks pressing against them, making her look mean and unruly. "She looks like a foxy woman. How can she be a member of the Zhao family at all?"
Su Cheng raised his eyes and said leisurely, "If all the children of the Zhao family looked like Third Aunt, it would be difficult to find a partner."
Along the way, she did nothing but concentrate on studying the trouble-making mice in the Zhao family.
This third grandmother, Zhang, is one of them.
"You!" Zhang was furious. She threw the handkerchief she was holding at her and shouted, "You are truly a troublemaker from the countryside. You have no sense of propriety. How dare you talk back to your elders?"
"What kind of elder are you?" Su Cheng gently lifted his foot, rubbing Zhang's handkerchief with his toes. There was no anger of being looked down upon in his eyes, but instead excitement. "This family's surname is Zhao, not Zhang. It's not your turn as a parasite to boss people around."
"You... are rebelling! You really are rebelling!" Zhang was so angry that she jumped up and down. She no longer had the dignity and pride she had when they first met. She didn't look like a noble lady, but more like a crazy woman. "Where is Zhao Hu? I want to see him!"
"In reply to Third Madam, Lord Zhao has been delayed and is on his way back to the capital." A man's voice came from behind. Steward Liu walked slowly out of the mansion with a serious expression. "Lord Zhao has sent a letter by carrier pigeon, instructing me to arrange all of Miss Su's expenses. Everyone in the mansion must put Miss Su first."
"This... How is this possible!" Zhang's eyes widened, unable to believe what she heard. "What about my Zhao'er? He's the most outstanding child in the Zhao family's bloodline. Why should he give way to a woman of unknown origin?"
"If Third Madam has any concerns, you can discuss it after you return home. I'm only following orders." Steward Liu bowed to her, his words and actions impeccable. "If there are no other concerns, I will bring the young lady into the mansion."
Zhang was stunned and opened her mouth, but didn't know what to say.
Su Cheng passed by her, raised his lips and smiled, his eyes full of sarcasm, and he didn't take her seriously at all.
"Outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!"
It wasn't until Su Cheng and his group entered the Zhao Mansion that Zhang collapsed and yelled, staring at their backs intently, almost gritting her teeth. "Little bitch, don't think you can sit back and relax just because you've sneaked into the Zhao family. You haven't seen the real powerful ones yet!"
Walking along the path in the backyard, I stopped in front of a courtyard. The small courtyard was surrounded by pine, bamboo, flowers and grass. The plaque on the door was engraved with the three words "Lixiangyuan".
"Miss Su, this is where you will live from now on." Steward Liu turned around and looked at her, his face still cold. "Two maids are waiting in the courtyard to serve you personally. I will take my leave."
He was like a puppet, only showing some reaction when Zhao Hu was mentioned, and had a blank face the rest of the time.
Su Cheng withdrew his gaze calmly, stretched out his hand and pushed open the door of Li Xiangyuan, "Let's go in and take a look."
What Manager Liu said was true. There were indeed two maids waiting in the yard. When they saw the visitor, they bowed and greeted him politely.
"Your servant Qingshuang pays respects to Miss Su."
"Your servant Cailian greets Miss Su."
Su Cheng waved his hand and said nonchalantly, "There's no need for these empty formalities. You don't have to bow to me when you see me in the future. Just be free."
The two maids looked at each other and said in unison, "We dare not."
Su Cheng shrugged, no longer asking them to do anything, and just waved to the people behind him, "Take all your luggage in and stay here with peace of mind."
Only a fool would not want a yard that is given to him for free.
Xie Jinyu only glanced at the yard and then focused all his attention on the woman. "Ah Cheng, if the Zhao family members want to verify your identity, do you have a way to escape?"
"Don't worry." Su Cheng pulled the corner of his lip, moved closer to him calmly, and said softly, "Water plus alum stone, different blood will blend together."
Xie Jinyu's eyes flickered, and she suddenly laughed out loud, "I was worrying too much."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.
"Miss Su, Grandma wants you to go to the lobby for questioning."
"Grandma...Mrs. Qian?" Su Cheng glanced at the two maids, knowing that they were sent by Zhao Hu to help her. She pointed with her bare hand, "Cai Lian, come with me."
Cai Lian was startled at first, but then she came to her senses and nodded gently, "Yes."
The lobby is in the front yard, and is usually where important matters are discussed in the family. Su Cheng rushed there from Lixiangyuan, and the twists and turns made him feel dizzy. When he finally arrived at the lobby, he saw quite a few people sitting in the hall, and it was obvious that they were there with bad intentions.
"Oh, isn't this the eldest daughter of our Zhao family?" Zhang saw the person coming, sneered, and rolled up her eyelids.
Su Cheng raised his eyebrows, his eyes showing a hint of interest. He said calmly, "Aunt San, is your eye problem acting up? If you keep rolling your eyes, you should go see a doctor."
"You!" Zhang has always been tongue-tied. She usually just follows her cousin's wife to get some food, drink and cloth. Now, facing the eloquent Su Cheng, she is naturally defeated.
"You do have a clever mouth that can talk." The woman sitting at the top raised her lips slightly, looking at Su Cheng from top to bottom, and whispered, "What's your name?"
I guess this must be Qian.
"My name is Su Cheng."
"How can you still take your outside surname after marrying into the Zhao family?" Qian frowned slightly, disapproval flashing in her eyes. "Or... have you never considered acknowledging your ancestral roots?"
In an instant, the eyes of the entire hall were focused on Su Cheng.
Facing the gazes of the crowd, Su Cheng's face remained calm as he raised his eyes to meet Qian's. "Changing my name to enter the family tree is a major matter. These words made everyone's expression change.
"Take over the Zhao family? You're dreaming!" Zhang was the first to lose her patience and slammed the table. "You'd better give up on this idea. The stewardship won't be yours!"
Su Cheng glanced sideways, sizing her up with interest. "Third Aunt is so majestic, someone who didn't know her would think she was the mistress of the Zhao family."
"Shut up, everyone." Qian cleared her throat, still with a gentle and harmless smile on her face. She stared straight at Su Cheng standing in the center, with a calculating look in her eyes. "Whether she is the daughter of the Zhao family or not, we have to test her to find out. Our Zhao family is also powerful. If we don't have any tricks, I'm afraid that all the cats and dogs outside will come to our house to claim our daughter."
