Chapter 123: Friend or Foe
"Didn't I tell you to cripple him? Why did you kill him?"
Su Cheng raised her eyes and looked at the man in front of her, furious. "You're so stubborn. You're always so impatient."
"Third brother also..." Xie Ming's thin lips tightened, and he seemed to be hesitant to speak.
Su Cheng frowned, sensitively catching the unwillingness in his words, "Xie Jinyu? What happened to him?"
"...Nothing." Xie Ming lowered his head, a hint of gloom flashing across his narrow eyes. "I was impulsive."
Mingming's third brother also went there, and if Zhao Jue fell into his hands, he would definitely die.
Why is he the only one being targeted?
Su Cheng sighed softly, frowning, "It's not that I'm wrong. I know you're eager to protect me, but I'm afraid that if this falls into the hands of the eldest wife, they will definitely try their best to throw dirty water on me."
"Then I'll go and take care of them as well." Xie Ming's eyebrows were firm and his expression was serious.
Su Cheng looked up in surprise, unable to believe his ears, "Are you addicted to killing?"
Xie Ming lowered his head in disappointment, not daring to speak again.
Su Cheng was feeling uneasy. He lowered his eyes and stared at one place in a daze.
"Su Cheng! You murderer, get out here!"
Suddenly, Zhang's sharp insults were heard outside the house. The two people inside the house looked at each other and fell silent instantly.
"Third Madam, our young lady is taking a nap in the house. If you have anything to do, you might as well come later—"
Before Qingshuang could finish her words, Zhang slapped her in the face.
"Bitch, you dare to stop me?" Zhang's eyes were red and her eyes seemed to be filled with poison. She wished she could tear the maid in front of her apart and eat her.
Half of Qingshuang's face quickly became red and swollen. She slowly turned her head back, still repeating what she had just said, "The young lady is taking a nap in the room. No one is allowed to disturb her."
"How dare you! Pull this slut away and drag her away to be beaten with a stick! Don't stop without my permission!" Zhang was so angry that she ordered the maid behind her to pull Qingshuang away.
"yes."
Just as the two maids behind Zhang were about to step forward, the door to the main house slowly opened. Su Cheng raised her eyelids and looked at Zhang with interest, her pink lips parted, "Third Aunt, you are so majestic."
Seeing that she was finally willing to show up, Zhang's face darkened instantly. She pushed away Cailian who was running in front of her to block her way, walked slowly to her, opened her eyes that were swollen like walnut kernels, stared at her with a smile, "Su Cheng, can you still sleep?"
Su Cheng lowered his eyes and curled his lips towards her, "I don't understand what Third Aunt said."
Zhang was trembling all over, her hands hidden in her sleeves, staring at her straight, "You murderer! Aren't you afraid that my son will come and take your life in the middle of the night?"
Su Cheng raised an eyebrow, looking surprised. "I don't understand what you're saying. Cousin Jue is alive and well, so why would he come after me?"
"At this point, are you still thinking about deceiving me?" Zhang sneered, with a cold light flashing in her eyes. The next moment, she suddenly pulled out the dagger from her sleeve and stabbed Su Cheng hard.
The two of them were not on good terms to begin with, and Zhang, with red eyes of hatred, suddenly came to the door. Su Cheng had been on guard against her and reacted almost instantly, dodging the dagger.
Su Cheng turned the corner of her skirt half a circle, steadied her body, and kicked her in the stomach.
Almost at the same time, Xie Ming also reacted and kicked Zhang.
The two forces combined together, and Zhang was kicked out, spitting out a mouthful of dirty blood.
"Aunt, what can't be said in a nice way?" Su Cheng picked up the dagger that had fallen on the ground, her tone gentle, like a little white flower that knows nothing about the world, "Killing people with a knife is against the law."
Zhang was barely breathing, and glared at Su Cheng sinisterly, almost gnashing her teeth. "You killed my son, so you must pay with his life!"
"Cousin Jue is dead?" Su Cheng covered her mouth, feigning shock, but a shrewd look flashed in her eyes. "Who instigated Third Aunt? I'm a weak woman, unable to carry anything. Cousin Jue is young and strong, how could I kill him?"
Zhang refused to listen to her words and was completely focused on her. "If it wasn't you, who else could it be? If it weren't for my sister-in-law saying this was a family matter and forbidding me to report it to the police, I would have put you in jail for life!"
"Aunt San was so sure it was me?" Su Cheng squatted down and stared at her with sympathy. "It's a pity that Cousin Jue died tragically. Aunt San lost her only son and was plotted against. It shows how vicious the person behind the scenes is."
Zhang was stunned for a moment and murmured, "What do you mean?"
"Someone died in the mansion, and it was a close relative of ours. Why did Auntie stop Third Aunt from reporting to the police? Who would believe it if she said there was nothing fishy going on?" Su Cheng saw that she looked shaken, and raised the corner of his lips calmly.
Zhang still had a shred of rationality left in her, and she asked loudly, "Sister-in-law, why would you harm my son? Your words are completely illogical!"
"Brother Ying hasn't woken up yet."
After she finished speaking, Zhang's pupils suddenly shrank and her body stiffened for a moment, "Zhao Ying... her son was poisoned and still unconscious, and she wanted to kill my son..."
Su Cheng curled his lips, looked at her with a smile, and said softly, "Aunt San, you must be able to tell clearly whether the people around you are friends or enemies."
Zhang didn't know what she was thinking about. She forced herself to get up and left Lixiang Garden in a daze.
"I knew that those rats in the main house were up to no good!" Su Cheng narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at her from behind, and moved closer to the man beside him. "Tonight, go to the main house and take one of the things they carry with them, and throw it in the corner of the east wing."
Xie Ming nodded, his voice low and pleasant, "Don't worry, I will do it cleanly."
-
At sunset, Su Cheng stepped into Zhao Hu's yard in the setting sun. The sun lengthened her figure, and only Cai Lian followed behind her.
Zhao Hu lived alone, without any maids or servants to serve him. The only person who could enter his yard was the steward Liu.
The yard was clean and tidy, with simple furnishings, and it didn't seem like the kind of layout that someone of Zhao Hu's wealth would like.
Hearing the noise coming from the courtyard gate, Manager Liu turned around, his eyes fell on Su Cheng, and he nodded at her politely.
There were no outsiders in the yard. Su Cheng was of ordinary status and should not accept such a generous gift from Manager Liu.
Manager Liu stepped aside to make way for the study door and said in a deep voice, "Miss Su, the master has been waiting for you for a long time."
Su Cheng nodded and walked past him. She faintly smelled the unique scent of Zhao Hu on him. She subconsciously stopped and glanced back at him.
Manager Liu still looked dull, but his appearance was still average and he didn't look unpleasant.
Seeing Su Cheng looking at him, Manager Liu raised his eyes, looked back at her dimly, and whispered, "Miss Su, is there anything else you want to tell me?"
"No...it's okay." Su Cheng suppressed the suspicion in his heart and withdrew his gaze, but his pace became much faster.
Damn it, she seemed to have discovered a shocking secret!
