Chapter 7: Being Kicked Out by Husband's Family
When Su Cheng saw the young woman, a name flashed through his mind.
The original body’s sister-in-law, Yu Baiting.
Su Cheng raised the corners of his lips and smiled harmlessly, "Sister-in-law, I don't need to bring anything every time I go back to my parents' home, right?"
Yu Baiting showed disgust on her face and didn't plan to come out to greet him. She turned around, picked up the wooden basin, and poured the water in the basin into the yard. She almost wrote the word "not welcome" on her face.
"Mom, your daughter is back!"
Hearing her daughter-in-law's words, Tian quickly put down her work and came out to greet her. After seeing that Su Cheng didn't hold anything in his hands, his face fell. He put his hands on his hips and asked, "Why are you back? It's not right for a married woman to run back to her parents' home all day!"
Su Cheng seemed not to hear the disgust in her words. He walked straight into the yard and swept his eyes across the center of the yard.
This family was clearly living a good life, with chickens, ducks, and geese, and no worries about food and drink, yet they still had to calculate the tiny bit of fur that belonged to their daughter.
When Tian saw that she was silent, she immediately flew into a rage, "Are you dumb, girl? You can't even speak a word!"
Suddenly, Tian seemed to remember something. She walked over to Su Cheng in two or three steps, grabbed her arm, and lowered her voice deliberately, "You came back empty-handed. Did those three guys from the Xie family chase you out?"
"I..." Su Cheng was about to speak, but changed her mind and agreed, nodding with a look of grievance. "My husband is dead, and I have no one to rely on. My three uncles-in-law were angry that I kept stealing things from my parents' house, so they kicked me out."
"What? They're rebelling! What's wrong with my daughter bringing something to honor her parents?" Tian spat on the ground, her wrinkled face filled with anger. She glared at Su Cheng fiercely, "You're a loser too. They kicked you out, and you just refused to leave? You ran back here, and it's not that easy to go back now."
"Mom, I've fallen to this point now, please stop scolding me..." Su Cheng lowered her face, afraid that she would burst out laughing if she was a second late. "Now that things have come to this, I have nowhere to go. I can only return to our home."
"What!" Yu Baiting happened to be passing by the main hall. Upon hearing this, she rushed out immediately. She didn't care whether she could save face or not. She pointed at Su Cheng and cursed, "You are clearly a married woman, and you still have the nerve to run back to your parents' home and become a money-loser. Your family is so poor, how can we afford to add another mouth to feed? Su Cheng, do you still have any shame?"
Hearing the noise, many neighbors came out to watch the show, and the two families next door quietly opened their windows to let the Su family's noise drift into their homes.
Su Cheng's face turned pale instantly, and she bit her lip and cried, "Sister-in-law, how long have I been married to Xinghua Village? I took back everything I could from my husband's family. Now that you see me coming back empty-handed, you've changed your attitude. You don't even want to let me into your home?"
"Even if my parents don't say it, I know it in my heart. The things I brought back home are most likely in your belly." Su Cheng sobbed softly. She was born with a good appearance, and now her tears made her even more pitiful. "Sister-in-law, you are so unreasonable to burn your bridges after crossing the river. If I hadn't been loyal to my mother's family, how could I have been kicked out by the Xie family?"
"Oh, are you instigating a married girl to take things from her parents' home?"
"That's right, didn't you hear what the Su family's daughter said? She got kicked out because she offended her in-laws by taking things!"
"Su Baoren's family is a bunch of scoundrels. His wife is not someone to be trifled with, his son is also a scoundrel, and the daughter-in-law he married is even more of a shrew. Now he's trying to bully his daughter. I heard that he married his daughter off to another village as a second wife just for a little betrothal gift!"
"Really? This family isn't afraid of retribution?"
The Su family's courtyard door was wide open, and the neighbors' discussions could be heard clearly.
Yu Baiting's expression changed, panic flashed in her eyes, and she pulled off her apron and threw it to the ground. "What nonsense are you talking about? Who forced you to take things home?"
"If sister-in-law doesn't like the things I brought, just return them. I'll take the things back to my husband's house, and maybe they can calm down." Su Cheng wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes and looked at her with a hint of teasing. "If sister-in-law doesn't want to take the things back, I can only live and eat at home."
"You! You have no shame!" Yu Baiting was furious. She pointed at her nose and stuttered for a long time before turning back to look at the silent Tian. "Mom, look at your daughter. Don't you know how much stuff is in the house? How can you handle another mouth? Her husband is dead, and she can't divorce him. Su Cheng can hardly get remarried. Letting her come back would be a real blow to her!"
Tian's face was gloomy, and her cloudy eyes swirled between her daughter-in-law and daughter. After a long while, she finally spoke, "I'm going to take the ox cart to Xinghua Village and ask them what the Xie family means. I don't believe there is no law!"
"Mother, you absolutely can't do that!" Su Cheng rushed forward and hugged Tian's thighs, tears streaming down her face. "Xie's fourth son is back. He's violent and brutal, and he beats people without distinction of status or gender. If mother goes there alone, she's going to be in trouble!"
Su Cheng brought up his brother-in-law Xie Ming in order to intimidate the Tian family.
Xie Ming had a bad reputation since he was a child. He had a very bad temper and beat up all the children in the nearby villages. When he grew up, he joined the escort agency and started as a porter. He learned a lot of real things and his reputation grew. When the country changed hands in the future, he seized the opportunity to join the army, made many military achievements, and rose to the top, becoming the youngest founding general of the new dynasty.
It was obvious that Tian was also aware of the abilities of the fourth son of the Xie family. When she heard that he had returned, her face instantly lost color, "Xie... Xie Si is back?"
Su Cheng nodded heavily, and couldn't be more serious. "Mom, if your small body goes against Xie Si, I'm afraid you won't be able to withstand a single blow!"
Tian shuddered, sat down on the stone bench in the yard in a sullen manner, and dared not say a word.
She thought that the Xie family only had a weak scholar and a sickly person. Now that the fourth son of that family had returned, he could not go to the Xie family no matter what.
"Mother!" Yu Baiting had never heard of the name of Xie Jia Silang. Seeing her mother-in-law suddenly give in, she was furious. "I don't care. Su Cheng can't come back anyway!"
Tian glared at her and cursed, "You're so happy. This family's surname is Su, why don't they let her come back? If you have the ability, go to the Xie family and try!"
"I... I'm pregnant with your Su family's grandson!" Yu Baiting was furious, yelling at the top of her lungs. "My body is so precious now. I have to feed two people with one mouth. All the good food and drinks have to go to your eldest grandson first. Besides, there are only two rooms in the house, so where is the room for Su Cheng? If I don't allow her to come back, she can't come back!"
"Really?" Tian's eyes lit up, and she immediately stood up to support Yu Baiting. "Oh, my dear daughter-in-law, why didn't you tell me such a big thing earlier? Mother asked you to work today!"
Yu Baiting looked proud, her chin held high. "I just saw a doctor not long ago. I originally thought I would tell my parents after the pregnancy was stable, but I never expected..."
Yu Baiting glanced at the woman standing beside her and snorted coldly, "Here comes a beggar, trying to snatch food and drink from your eldest grandson!"
The smile on Tian's face faded a little. She glanced at her daughter with her small green eyes, dissatisfied. "You too! Why are you coming to your sister-in-law's place to bring bad luck? The Xie family doesn't want you, and the Su family doesn't want you either! Go back to where you came from!"
"Ask me to go back? Sure." Compared to the other two, Su Cheng seemed much calmer. He smiled and nodded, "Then return everything I took from the Xie family."
