Chapter 6

The man forgot to react for a moment. He was stunned for two seconds before he came to his senses and pointed at the zombies blankly: "It...they are falling...falling..."

Based on his understanding of zombies, he tried to "kneel" for a long time but couldn't utter the word "kneel".

Eve blinked.

"Oh, that's right," she said, as if suddenly realizing something. "It's not good to let you know."

Man: “What…?!”

He had just made a sound when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his neck - the male zombie chopped the back of his neck with a knife. The man fell to the ground with a thud, maintaining a confused expression.

Eve's world shuns the necromancer, and there are at least a stack of wanted warrants for her. She has just come out and knows nothing about this world. She finally meets a local, and she can't scare him away.

She walked over to the man and searched him first. After confirming that he had no recording equipment, she said to the male zombie, "Carry him up the tree."

Even though zombies rarely move around in the early morning, it was still a little unsafe for them to stand in the wild without any cover. Eve signaled the male zombie to drag the unconscious man up the tree, and then she climbed up herself.

She had been struggling all night and was already exhausted. When she was about to climb up, her foot slipped and she almost fell down. Fortunately, the male zombie was quick-witted and grabbed Eve's arm.

Eve was pulled up by him like a chicken. She steadied herself and gently pushed the male zombie: "Let go."

Upon hearing this, the male zombie blinked his dark eyes slightly and slowly loosened his fingers.

Eve remembered something and asked, "Does it have a name?"

The male zombie's eyes showed confusion and he slowly shook his head.

After humans mutate into zombies, they generally lose their memories of their human lives, and it seems that male zombies are no exception.

Eve pondered for a moment, her eyes falling on the male zombie's arm: "...I'll call you Seven."

There is a faint number [7] tattooed on the inside of the male zombie's elbow.

The male zombie didn't understand the meaning and just nodded in confusion.

Eve, however, pulled up his arm and pressed her finger against the tattoo: "Well...but you can't keep this."

This should be the mark left by the Qingshan base.

She took out a blade from her sleeve and stabbed it into Qi's skin. Qi trembled slightly when the sharp blade cut his skin. Eve glanced at him and he stopped moving again.

Although Eve was a witch, she was very skilled in using the knife. She quickly cut off the piece of skin with the number 7 printed on it, revealing the rotten muscles underneath.

During this time, Qi kept his head down and remained silent. Occasionally, when Eve accidentally cut him, he just moved his fingers slightly.

"Well done," Eve praised him, pulling his long hair that had fallen to his shoulders. "Drink it."

She brought her wrist to Seven's lips.

Qi hesitated for a moment, tentatively bared his fangs, and when he saw that Eve didn't react in any particular way, he bit her wrist.

Eve watched Qi's elbow carefully, and when the skin there grew back, she waved her hand, "That's it."

Qi immediately let go, carefully retracted his fangs, and lowered his head like a docile shepherd dog.

Eve glanced at her arm. There were only a few shallow bite wounds left, not serious enough to require magic to heal. She took a piece of rock candy and put it in her mouth, then rolled up her sleeves to cover the wound.

"Now..." She looked at the unconscious man beside her, then at the several low-level zombies gathered under the tree waiting. After thinking for a moment, she said to the zombies below, "You all disperse first."

Upon hearing this, the zombies all walked in different directions. Soon, the staggering figures disappeared from sight.

With Qi's support, Eve carefully moved in front of the man.

She kicked the man and put on a sweet smile: "Wake up."

As soon as Fan Ming opened his eyes, he met a pair of emerald eyes.

Ever since the apocalypse began, he had lost both the energy and opportunity to talk to the opposite sex. But now, an incredibly beautiful girl was squatting beside him, worry visible in her delicate eyes. "Are you okay?"

Fan Ming was stunned for a moment before he remembered to answer: "I... I'm fine..." He seemed to have not yet figured out the situation. He stood up in a daze and found himself half hanging on a tree. "What am I...?"

"You were hit on the head by a zombie and passed out," Eve said. "Luckily they didn't bite you."

After she said that, Fan Ming did feel a dull pain in the back of his head, but for some reason, the pain in the back of his neck was even worse.

He touched his neck suspiciously and looked at Eve: "You..." His eyes met the black-haired man standing behind her, and he changed the subject, "You are...?"

The red-haired girl in front of him was thin, and her slender arms seemed unable to lift anything heavy - Fan Ming rarely encountered such weak people in the apocalypse. After all, without strength, one cannot survive.

The black-haired man standing behind her was almost completely covered in a large cloak, with only his snow-white pointed chin exposed.

The appearance of these two people in the wilderness looked strange no matter how you looked at it.

"Eve," Eve pointed at herself and then turned to Seven, "This is my brother."

Seven remained silent.

She seemed not to notice the doubt in Fan Ming's eyes and said with a smile: "What's your name? Why are you here?"

This question seemed to remind Fan Ming. He suddenly let out a cry of fear, then remembered something and hesitated, "Where are those zombies? Why am I..."

He recalled the scene where the zombies all knelt down before he passed out. It was so unbelievable that he was afraid that he had seen it wrong and was a little embarrassed to say it out loud.

Sure enough, the red-haired girl didn't mention anything about kneeling.

"Hmm," Eve blinked, "They? We've already dealt with them."

"What did you say?!" Fan Ming was shocked again.

Eve said, "I saw they were about to catch up to you, so I killed them. Why?" She tilted her head in confusion. "Wouldn't it be better not to kill them?"

"That's not the case..." Fan Ming said blankly, "It's just..." Although those zombies were all level one, there were at least five or six of them, right? Were they all taken care of by these two?!

He subconsciously glanced at Eve. Her exposed skin was smooth.

Eve seemed to understand what he was thinking and curled her lips: "We are people with special abilities."

"A person with superpowers?" Fan Ming was stunned again.

This... could explain why these two people were able to face several zombies without any harm. It was the first time Fan Ming had seen a person with superpowers, and he couldn't help but feel a little excited: "Excuse me... what superpowers do you have?"

Among the people with special abilities, who make up 40% of the total population, they are divided into four categories due to the wide variety of individual abilities: natural, enhanced, support, and special.

The enhancement type refers to those psychics whose one or more parts of the body are enhanced. Chang Qingfeng is an enhancement type - his right arm has evolved into a solid green sword.

Natural ability users are those who can use the abilities of natural elements, such as wind ability or water ability. They and enhancement ability users are often the two categories most suitable for combat.

Support abilities are the only non-combat abilities among the four major categories, but they are also sought after by various bases. After all, who wouldn’t welcome a healing ability user, or a mechanical ability user who can create all kinds of weapons?

The last one is the trait system. Generally speaking, all the abilities that are difficult to classify belong to the trait system. Their types are strange and bizarre, and it is the one with the smallest number of people among the four major abilities.

Fan Ming couldn't help but look at the two of them curiously, wondering what their special abilities were...

"Sorry," Eve said, "no comment."

Fan Ming understood what she said—some people with special abilities didn't like to share their abilities with others, so he quickly said, "No, no, no, I'm being abrupt."

Eve smiled and reminded him, "You haven't introduced yourself yet."

At some point, the initiative of the entire conversation shifted to her.

Fan Ming didn't notice at all and subconsciously said, "Me?" He touched his nose embarrassedly and said, "My name is Fan Ming, I'm just an ordinary person, so I don't belong to any base..."

After the end of the world, the country no longer exists, and a base model controlled by major forces has gradually become the mainstream. For example, the research base where Eve was previously located belongs to the Wen Group, which is currently the largest pharmaceutical company.

The base will not support people for free. If you want to obtain the base's protection, you must provide labor.

But ordinary people are often not welcome in the base, which is why there are "vagrants" like Fan Ming wandering in the wild.

Eve nodded in understanding and asked, "Did you encounter a group of zombies?"

Mentioning this, Fan Ming showed a regretful expression: "Oh, don't mention it!"

Eve studied his face, her green eyes narrowed.

She had gone through so much trouble to knock Fan Ming unconscious and tell lies to him, and had gone through so much trouble just for this moment - homeless people generally would not actively provoke zombies, but Fan Ming had attracted so many zombies, so he must have encountered something.

Sure enough, Fan Ming continued, "Have you heard of the Leyuecheng shopping mall in the west?"

Eve raised an eyebrow.

"Leyuecheng Shopping Mall?" she repeated, a perfect balance of confusion and respect on her face. "What kind of place is that?"

Fan Ming was surprised: "Huh? Don't you know? There are a lot of supplies there!" And there is nothing to take away until now.

Hearing this, Eve's green eyes flashed, she changed her sitting position, and stared straight at Fan Ming.

She was like a hunter ready to strike, slowly reeling in the fine spider web to cover the unaware prey.

"I don't know," she chuckled. "Can you tell me in detail?"

***

Fan Ming briefly explained what happened.

The area they are currently in was a second-tier city before the apocalypse (and the base where Eve had previously stayed was built inside the ruins of the city). There is a suburban supermarket about ten miles away from the base.

Fan Ming came from there.

"I'm a local," he said. "Before the apocalypse, I often went to that supermarket. They had a lot of stuff, everything."

Although he didn't finish his words, Eve understood what he meant - he probably wanted to go to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities.

But when Fan Ming mentioned this, he showed a look of regret: "At the beginning, I also listened to another homeless person. He said that because the supermarket was in a remote area, no one had gone there to get supplies, so we gathered a few people to go together."

I didn't expect that this trip would be a step into hell.

——A large number of zombies had already gathered in the mall, but in order to avoid unnecessary attacks, they went there at night when zombies were not very active. Unexpectedly, when they stepped into the mall, many zombies suddenly appeared from nowhere, and everyone was trapped in the mall.

Fan Ming was able to escape thanks to his familiarity with the terrain.

He looked like he had just survived a disaster: "Let's get out of here quickly, if they catch up with us, we'll be finished!"

Eve lowered her head, lost in thought.

After a while, she looked at Fan Ming: "Is there any food there?"

Fan Ming asked uncertainly, "Is there?" Although fresh food was definitely not available, instant noodles were still available.

Eve: "Clothing and medicine?"

"Yes, there's a small pharmacy on the second floor."

"Okay," Eve stood up and patted her skirt. "Please help point me in the direction. We'll go there at dawn."

Fan Ming: "Yes, yes, let's leave at dawn... huh??!"

He almost doubted his ears: "What? You're going there?!" Shocked, "But there are at least a hundred zombies gathered there!"

Eve gave him a strange look.

"Of course the more zombies the better."

Fan Ming: “…”

Fan Ming: “???”

The author has something to say:

The classification of superpowers is based on the comic book "hunter*hunter".

Eve: Wherever there are zombies, there I am.

Fan Ming: Are you seriously ill?
