"Is it really you who controlled the zombies?! How did you do it?!" Fang Yong asked in surprise.
Eve: “…Hmm.”
Right now, the six of them were squeezed into an off-road vehicle. Since the front seat could only accommodate two people, the remaining four team members had to squeeze into the back seat. Eve was the smallest and was forced to sit on Seven's lap.
"Didn't I just say this? This is my special ability," she simply dealt with Fang Yong, then looked at Song Shuye in the main driver's seat, "There are too many people in the back seat, Qi said he can get out and run."
Everyone looked at Qi, who hadn't said a word since getting on the bus, and fell silent.
"No," Song Shuye refused coldly, "It will attract zombies here, just bear with it."
Eve: “.”
She glanced at Seven, who was wrapping his arms around her like a tree, trying to put a wall between her and the others.
Shoufeng huddled in the corner, glanced at the noisy crowd, and silently looked away.
"Stop talking nonsense," Lin Bing knocked on the windowsill, signaling them to be quiet, and said impatiently, "We're almost there. Let's check your backpacks first."
He asked everyone to open their backpacks and check them one by one, saying, "Just prepare three days' worth of food and water. Remember! What's important are medicine, bandages, a fire source, and weapons—other than that, throw away anything useless!"
Fang Yong raised his hand cautiously: "But aren't food and water the most important? What if we starve to death in the city?"
Hearing this, Lin Bing looked at him with a half-smile.
"Boy, how many missions have you been on?"
Fang Yong nodded hesitantly.
Lin Bing slapped him on the head rudely: "Everyone inside is a zombie, who would touch the food? If you can't find a supermarket, just go into any house."
Due to the restrictions of the apocalyptic environment, most people would choose to stock up on some high-calorie, small-volume, easy-to-store dry food. So even though Zishui City had fallen for more than a month, it was not difficult for them to find some food to fill their stomachs.
Fang Yong nodded, seemingly understanding. Lin Bing turned his bag over and said, "So none of your dry food is useful. Take out the extra ones. If you don't want to part with them, eat them now."
Song Shuye also added: "If you bring too many, it will make it difficult to move and you will be more likely to be caught by zombies."
What he said made sense. Fang Yong and Shoufeng began to take out the extra dry food. Eve thought about it and began to pack Qi and her own backpack.
After finishing the sorting, Lin Bing checked one by one. When he came to Eve, he found that she had nothing in her hands. A suspicious look immediately fell on her face.
Eve pointed at Seven: "I gave it all to him."
Lin Bing frowned: "You two are only taking one?"
"It's too heavy," Eve said, as if she didn't notice Lin Bing's knitted brows as she opened the backpack in Qi's hand. "We can just take these."
Lin Bing leaned over to take a look and almost laughed out loud.
"Compressed biscuits, water, compressed biscuits..." He stirred his backpack and poured everything inside onto the ground, then raised his voice, "All food and water?!"
Eve rummaged through the colorful packages, then with her slender fingers, she pulled out two rolls of bandages and said sincerely, "There are also medical bandages."
Lin Bing: ...Fuck @@#&!
Song Shuye also frowned: "No medicine?"
"Yes," Eve continued to search and fished out a paper bag filled with white rock sugar. "This will help relieve the pain."
Lin Bing: “???” Black-bone chicken and Spanish mackerel.
"It doesn't matter," Eve said casually as she folded her backpack back together and handed it to Seven. "If Seven and I fall behind, you can just leave us behind."
Lin Bing snorted, "Of course, my team never leaves any baggage behind."
Song Shuye didn't approve of the internal quarrels. Seeing the two of them arguing with each other, he quickly extinguished the simmering fire and turned the steering wheel: "We're here."
The car stopped in front of a city wall over ten meters high. Everyone looked at it in amazement. The thick wall stretched all the way to the horizon. Song Shuye pointed at the gray wall that stood tall like a stone wall and said briefly, "This is Zishui City."
"Let's get out of the car quickly," Fang Yong said, as if to pull the door open. "It's going to be dark soon."
Song Shuye: "Wait, don't..."
"howl--!"
Before Song Shuye finished speaking, Fang Yong had already opened the door, but as soon as one of his feet stepped down, he heard a scream from behind the car - a zombie happened to be wandering nearby, and seeing Fang Yong who had just landed, it ran towards him like a cannonball!
Fang Yong: “!”
He immediately retracted his foot and tried to close the car door, but in his panic his foot got stuck and the door failed to close in time. Then a huge force hit the door. By the time he reacted, the zombie had already slammed the door open and pounced on him with its fangs and claws bared!
Fang Yong: "Wait...!"
“Puff!”
He had barely uttered half a scream when the zombie in front of him suddenly paused. A black spike as thick as an index finger pierced through the back of his head from between his eyebrows, holding his head in place like a string of candied haws. The zombie's body swayed and froze in place.
"Excuse me, could you please move aside?" A soft voice sounded from above.
Fang Yong raised his head in shock, and met Eve's crescent eyes. The latter smiled at him and said politely, "You stepped on my foot."
He realized that most of his body was leaning on Eve's legs, holding her thigh like a life-saving straw, "Sorry...!" He hurriedly let go of his hand. Out of the corner of his eye, the black-haired boy who had been silent all this time suddenly showed his teeth at him threateningly.
Fang Yong: “……?”
"It's okay," Eve pulled her foot out, took out a small knife from her wide sleeve, walked to the motionless zombie, poked it into the temple, and skillfully dug out a nuclear crystal the size of a grain of rice and put it in her pocket.
After she got out of the car, Qi Yi swung the black thorn, and the zombie's body was thrown dozens of meters away like a rag bag and broke into several pieces.
Song Shuye glanced at the two men's backs and commented objectively, "With their strength, there's no chance they'll become a burden."
Lin Bing: "...Shut up."
***
When Zishui City fell, the city gate had not been closed in time and was currently wide open. Six people hid in the bushes near the city gate. Looking through the doorway, they could see several zombies wandering around.
"How are we going to get through?" Fang Yong asked nervously.
Lin Bing: "Why are you in such a hurry? I have something good."
Everyone looked over and saw him rummaging through his backpack mysteriously, and finally took out a firecracker.
Everyone: black question mark.jpg.
"What are you looking at?" Lin Bing was furious. "Have you never played with firecrackers?"
"No," Fang Yong shook his head honestly, "It is forbidden to set off firecrackers in the city."
Shoufeng: "I need to do my homework."
Eve: "What is this? Explosives?"
Lin Bing: “…” These poor bastards who had no childhood.
"Everyone, get out of my way," he angrily pushed everyone aside, "Watch this."
They took cover of the bushes and moved a few inches closer to the city gate. Lin Bing carefully lit the firecracker and quickly pushed it to the opposite side of the gate with an ice pick. With a "bang", the firecracker was quickly pushed out by the airflow generated by the tail and flew more than ten meters away.
"Oh?" Eve raised her eyebrows in surprise, "What is this?" It's quite interesting.
"Look!" Fang Yong suddenly shouted in a low voice.
The sound of the firecrackers attracted many zombies at the door. They all looked over and saw the front end of the firecracker flying out. Several zombies were attracted by it and chased after it.
"Take advantage of now!" Song Shufeng said softly.
Everyone immediately ran out from the bushes where they were hiding and slipped into Zishui City.
"Over there," thanks to the firecrackers, many of the zombies at the city gate were lured away. Lin Bing turned his gaze and pointed to an empty room about ten meters away, saying, "Go in quickly."
Everyone ran over quickly. Shoufeng, who was the fastest, just opened the door when he was confronted by two zombies wandering at the door. The two zombies, whose faces were half rotten, growled and made a move to pounce on them.
Shoufeng took a deep breath and quickly ducked, revealing Fang Yong who was confused behind him. Seeing that the zombie's brain was about to hit his face, Song Shuye, who was at the end of the team, was quick-witted and grabbed the air. Everyone only felt a few strong winds in front of them, and when they came to their senses, the two zombies had been thrown onto the opposite wall.
"Why the hell are you hiding?!"
Lin Bing glared at Qi - he was originally the second in line, but as soon as the zombie appeared, it immediately dodged and retreated in front of Eve. Black tentacles emerged from the shadows and wrapped around Eve's body like a tail.
Eve pulled away Seven's tentacles: "He's afraid something will happen to me."
Everyone fell silent as they looked at Eve, who was second to last in the ranking and was three meters away from the zombie.
"Okay," Song Shuye broke the awkwardness, "Let's go in first."
At this time, several zombies had reacted and were walking back towards the city gate. Everyone came to their senses and hurried into the house. Lin Bing quickly closed the door.
"Don't let your guard down," Song Shuye said as soon as he entered the house. "Shoufeng, Fang Yong, go block all the exits. Eve, Qi, check if there are any other zombies in the house."
Shoufeng silently carried out the order. Fang Yong hesitated and followed her. Eve nodded to Qi, "Go."
Seven glanced at her before turning and leaving. Eve took two steps in the other direction and felt something was wrong under her feet. She lowered her head and saw one of Seven's long black tails wrapped around her right foot.
She raised an eyebrow but ignored the long tail.
Ten minutes later, everyone gathered again in the lobby on the first floor. Song Shuye looked at the four of them and asked, "How is it?"
Shoufeng said nothing. Fang Yong glanced at her and said hesitantly, "We've blocked the back door, windows, and stairs."
Song Shuye nodded and asked Eve and the others, "Are there any zombies in the house?"
"Yes," Eve replied slowly as she was cleaning the blood from between her fingernails. "Two ends of the corridor, one end of the living room, and one end of the kitchen. They've been cleaned up."
So fast? Song Shuye was secretly surprised when he heard this.
It’s not that he can’t deal with four zombies, but the terrain here is narrow, and they don’t know where the zombies are ambushing. These two people were able to kill four zombies without any harm within ten minutes. Their strength is indeed not to be underestimated.
Eve's words brought him back to his senses: "Look, there are people outside."
She stood in front of the window, pointing outside through the hole in the curtains. Everyone hurried over. Fang Yongxian took a look and asked in confusion, "Where? I don't see anything."
Song Shuye: "Let me take a look."
Fang Yong moved a few steps to the side, but the hole was too small, so Song Shuye had to lift a corner of the curtain. Everyone put their heads together and looked out the window with bated breath.
There were several shadows moving in the shadows of the city gate. If Eve hadn't pointed them out, it would have been almost impossible to spot them. Song Shuye squinted for a moment and said, "...Yes, there are four people there."
As he was speaking, four people just walked out from the shadows. They were men and women, of different heights, but all of them were wearing a set of gray stand-up collar clothes, a bit like military uniforms.
Lin Bing snorted: "I was wondering who it was, it turned out to be Polaris."
It was another term she had never heard of before. Eve asked, "North Star?"
"The second largest organization in the apocalypse," Song Shuye answered. "It's second only to Queen Bee in strength, but the two...don't have a very good relationship."
He expressed it very vaguely, but Eve still noticed something was wrong. Sure enough, the next moment Lin Bing shouted, "Not a very good relationship? That's too polite, isn't it?!"
"North Star is always picking on our Queen Bee. They're our sworn enemy," he said, crossing his arms, his eyes nearly popping out. "They're stealing our resources, poaching our psychics, and even trying to kill the zombies on our territory!"
"It's not that bad," Song Shuye said, "Everyone just wants to survive in the apocalypse."
Lin Bing sneered.
"Captain, they've entered the city," Fang Yong pointed at the window. "What should we do now? Should we let them in?"
Lin Bing said bluntly: "Of course not."
"But..." Eve drawled, pointing out the window, "They don't seem to have any intention of coming into the house."
Everyone looked in the direction she pointed.
Compared with the cautiousness of Song Shuye's team, the actions of those four people can be described as bold and daring - the two young men and women in the lead seemed to be people with enhancement abilities. They simply pulled up the electric poles on the side of the road and swung them down, knocking down three or four zombies.
The men exchanged a few words, and two of them laughed out loud, which made the six people huddled in the hut break out in cold sweats.
"Haha," Lin Bing laughed, "These people won't live long."
"Why?" Fang Yong was puzzled. "They are very powerful."
"It has nothing to do with their strength. These people made too much noise." Eve suddenly said.
The sound of the enhanced man and woman smashing the zombies could be heard through the closed doors and windows, and even the glass windows made a vibrating "bang bang" sound, as if there were giants dancing wildly outside.
Seeing Lin Bing's confusion, Eve smiled and pointed at the window with her finger.
There were originally seven or eight zombies wandering at the city gate, but the Polaris members' mischief attracted zombies from far away, and they gathered more and more, and their number increased instead of decreasing.
Those people finally realized the problem and hurriedly withdrew, but it was too late - by the time they reacted, they were surrounded by dense swarms of zombies.
Lin Bing whistled: "They are finished."
As if to prove his words, the group of zombies suddenly attacked Polaris. The four of them hurriedly launched a defense, but it was obvious that an older man in the team was not a combatant. He was attacked by several zombies and soon fell to the ground and was dragged directly into the zombie group.
A shrill scream accompanied by the sound of teeth tearing flesh rang out instantly.
"Uncle Ye!" a young woman in the lead screamed.
She was distracted by this and her hand movements inevitably paused. The woman was originally the main force of the team, and the originally solid defense was instantly broken. The zombies swarmed over, and a two-meter-tall zombie grabbed the woman's shoulder. With a "rip", her right arm was torn off like a fragile part.
"Ah--!" She screamed, protecting her broken arm and quickly retreating. She kicked the building next to her with her left foot, and half of the wall collapsed instantly, burying the zombies rushing in the front.
Fang Yong: "I...should we go save people?!"
After he asked, he didn't get a response from anyone for a long time. After a while, Song Shuye said softly, "It's too late."
Fang Yong seemed to realize something and looked out the window.
When the woman was besieged by zombies, her two companions were also attacked. The zombies planned to separate the three of them, forming three isolated islands. However, the two were not as strong as the woman. They only held on for dozens of seconds before being bitten on the back of the neck by the zombies one after another.
Seeing this, no one suggested rescuing people.
There were at least thirty zombies outside. Even if the six of them could deal with them, they didn't know if the woman could hold on until they got to her.
In silence, Shoufeng whispered, "She's dead."
Everyone then remembered the only woman who was struggling to hold on. After seeing her companions die one after another, she seemed to have lost her fighting spirit and finally gave up resistance. Several zombies rushed forward, and soon the woman's figure disappeared among the swarm of gray heads.
The four people who were originally at ease were wiped out in just a few minutes.
Several people looked at the zombies that were busy gnawing on the corpses and fell silent.
"Damn it," Lin Bing suddenly cursed, "They died, leaving us with a mess."
Everyone: “?”
Song Shuye sighed and pointed out the window: "Those zombies haven't left."
Everyone discovered that the zombies stayed where they were after eating the corpses, and some of them kept sniffing the ground, as if they were trying to find fresh human flesh. The originally spacious road was severely congested, and you would bump into a zombie every few steps - there was no way to get out.
"One, two...thirty-eight," Fang Yong counted quietly, "There are thirty-eight zombies outside now."
Thirty-eight heads against six people—the odds of winning are pitifully slim.
"Go through the back door?" Lin Bing suggested.
"No," Song Shuye shook his head, "The back door is a dead end."
Fang Yong cautiously suggested: "Do you have any firecrackers? We can use them to attract zombies."
Eve said, "It won't work, right? Its range shouldn't exceed forty meters. It won't attract many zombies, and it might even backfire."
Fang Yong looked at Lin Bing and Song Shuye, and they both nodded solemnly.
He was desperate: "What should I do?"
Lin Bing looked at Song Shuye, who frowned and said, "...Let me think of a way."
"Fuck," Lin Bing raged. "Those Polaris don't have common sense, and they left a mess behind and expect us to clean it up!"
No matter how powerful a psychic is, he or she should avoid making too much noise in places where zombies are present - these corpses will notice the noise like hungry dogs smelling meat and bones.
So when everyone first entered the city, even though Song Shuye and Lin Bing could easily deal with the zombies blocking the way, they simply chose to use firecrackers to lure them away - after all, the more they fought, the more zombies gathered.
Of course, unless someone's superpower is an atomic bomb, they will automatically mute their microphones.
Just when everyone was at a loss, Eve suddenly stood up.
Lin Bing frowned and called out to her, "What are you doing?"
"Aren't we in a hurry?" Eve turned her head with a puzzled look on her face. "Why don't we go a little further inside?"
Lin Bing was too lazy to talk nonsense with her and pointed at the zombies outside: "What are you going to do with those zombies?"
Unexpectedly, Eve readily said, "I'll take care of it," and smiled at everyone. "Just follow me closely and don't get too close to the zombies."
After saying that, she ignored everyone's different looks and waved to Qi: "Come here."
Qi meekly moved closer. Eve motioned him to look under the door and whispered, "Stretch out your shadow and lure the zombies over."
She was afraid that Qi wouldn't understand, so she put her hand on his arm and said, "Do you understand what I mean?"
Qi's dark eyes paused for a few seconds on Eve's hand, and he slowly shook his head.
Eve: “…”
She had to repeat herself: "See that crack in the door? Flatten your shadow and lure the zombies outside over. Remember, lure them one at a time and don't make too much noise."
After she finished speaking, she stared at Qi with a scrutinizing gaze. Seeing that he still looked confused, her green eyes narrowed dangerously. The latter paused and nodded slightly, which seemed a bit aggrieved no matter how he looked at him.
Eve didn't care at all and kicked him: "Go quickly."
Seven walked a few steps to the door. The shadows beneath him stirred. A thick, long black tail slowly emerged, slid along the floor, and squeezed out through the crack in the door. Eve stood by the window and commanded, "There's a zombie at nine o'clock."
"What is she doing?" Fang Yong was a little confused, but afraid of disturbing Eve, he could only ask Song Shuye in a low voice.
Song Shuye pondered for a moment: "...Could it be that Eve wants to control the zombies?"
"So what?" Lin Bing sneered. "There are thirty-eight of them outside. Can she really control them all?"
Song Shuye gave him a warning look, and after he shut up in frustration, he said cautiously, "It's not impossible. If she can help us bear half of the burden, maybe we can manage to fight back."
Having said that, Song Shuye himself felt that there was little hope, but Naxiang Qi had already caught a zombie, so he couldn't speak out to stop him.
So a few people stood aside silently and watched Qi's fishing.
Qi's shadow tail was thick, long and powerful, and he hooked the zombies quickly. In just a few minutes, he had pulled all the zombies within ten meters of the hut over and lined up in a row of tree stumps at the door.
There was a trapdoor on the door of the cabin for stuffing newspapers, and Eve tried it and it was just big enough for her hand to pass through.
She bit her finger and dripped a few drops of blood at the door. Several zombies smelled the scent and were attracted over. Eve passed through the trapdoor and quickly splashed a few drops of blood on their heads. The blood drilled into the zombies' brows as flexibly as a living worm. They froze for a moment, and when they raised their heads again, the manic scarlet in their eyes had subsided.
Everyone was delighted, this method worked!
Then Eve and Qi did the same thing and controlled more than a dozen zombies in one breath. Seeing that more and more zombies gathered at the door, Eve suddenly stopped.
Lin Bing asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"
"I'm almost at my limit," Eve said, not wanting to expose her strength. She pointed at the zombies and said, "I'm controlling twenty of them now, and there are still eighteen wild zombies left. This shouldn't be too much of a problem for you, right?"
Song Shuye and Lin Bing looked at each other and nodded.
They originally only expected Eve to be able to control about ten zombies. After all, there were two A-level psychics in the team, so dealing with the remaining zombies would not be a problem at all.
Song Shuye said: "Then everyone, get ready, let's go..."
Eve raised a hand.
"?" Song Shuye asked, "What's wrong?"
"Before I go, I have something else to ask you."
Everyone stopped packing their luggage and looked at Eve at the same time.
Eve seemed oblivious and simply said to Song Shuye, "Although we have all accepted the Queen Bee mission, we actually... know nothing about the mission's target."
Hearing this, Lin Bing's eyes widened, and he seemed to be about to speak, but was stopped by Song Shuye. He turned back to look at Eve: "What do you mean?"
Eve curled her lips and said slowly:
"Who is Bai Shuichuan?"
The author has something to say:
Although Mid-Autumn Festival has passed, I ate mooncakes today!
(Outrageous) Rose and five-nut soup is absolutely delicious!
Eve: That’s great. Next time, I’ll make Qi’s brain flavored dish.
Everyone: horror.jpg.
