The Pei family lad didn't want to take him along; the fewer people who knew about what they were about to do, the better. The old man had said he would handle things, so he would take care of this man.
"No need, I'll go call Baldy back. It'll be over in a minute!"
After saying that, he hurriedly left.
...
Bai Yajing casually caught a pheasant, while the people following behind her were starting to get anxious.
He least wanted to come to the deep mountains and forests; that was practically suicide! The wild animals there could easily devour him! He had that much self-awareness!
So he kept looking back.
Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long; his boss arrived soon.
The bald, fat man was a little confused when he saw that he was the only one who came. "Boss, why are you alone?"
The young man's eyes flickered slightly upon hearing this. Remembering that his purpose for today was absolutely not to be known, he gave a perfunctory reply.
"Oh, I rushed over as soon as I got the message. You can go back now! I just wanted to chat with that woman up ahead for a bit."
Bai Yajing was squatting not far away, looking for a rabbit's burrow. Of course, she wouldn't let her guard down and kept an eye on the tail. Naturally, she noticed that another tail had followed them.
Without making a sound, he took out a small item from the hand that was facing away from them, just in case.
The bald, fat man over there was puzzled as to why it took so much effort to say a few words, but he knew his boss's temper and knew he shouldn't ask questions he shouldn't ask.
So he obediently nodded and went down the mountain the same way he came.
After he left, the young man casually covered the lower half of his face with a handkerchief and slowly moved closer to Bai Yajing.
Bai Yajing rolled her eyes. How much did they look down on her? To attack her so blatantly?
She stopped pretending, stood up, and dusted herself off. She turned to look at the person who had come.
"Who are you? What are you doing following me?"
The young man gave a cold laugh and raised the dark, menacing gun, aiming it at her.
"You don't need to know who I am. If you know what's good for you, jump off from over there yourself, and I'll leave you with a whole corpse."
Bai Yajing was amused by his blunt words.
Such a simple and brutal method is unlike anything she has ever encountered with enemy agents.
"You?"
Seeing her disdainful expression, the young man's face darkened, and he raised the dark wooden gun, aiming it at her head.
He didn't want to leave any traces, but now, he figured he might as well finish this quickly and clean up the scene later.
Just as he was about to fire, Bai Yajing ducked down, rolled quickly on the spot, and found a large tree to use as cover.
Gunshots rang out from the other side, but no one was hit.
Seeing her quick reflexes and the weapon in her hand, the young man also reacted swiftly, finding cover for himself. The two began to compete to see who had more patience and who had better marksmanship.
"Damn it!" I should have done it secretly earlier. It's just a little troublesome!
Bai Yajing wasn't going to waste time foolishly. She took out a specially made sleeping powder from her pocket, lit it, and tossed it over there.
The young man immediately held his breath and quickly left his original position.
This gave Bai Yajing an opportunity, and she hit him in the leg with a gun.
He was so angry he almost swore!
Unable to win, he chose to retreat. He threw out a smoke grenade and quickly left.
Bai Yajing was so choked by the fumes that she couldn't even open her eyes. This stuff must have come from outside; it was too irritating to her eyes.
She had no choice but to quickly leave the spot and take a detour to catch up with the person.
Unfortunately, that guy was cunning. Taking advantage of the short time he had, and relying on his familiarity with the terrain, he managed to shake off Bai Yajing.
Bai Yajing couldn't find the person and wasn't familiar with the place. The guy hadn't even left any bloodstains, so he was obviously an experienced person.
"Tsk, this is more like it!" I knew it; enemy agents are not so simple.
The one who was following her was just a newbie. He was probably just a low-level henchman, not even considered a subordinate.
