Chapter 496 Matchmaking Visit (1/2)

I thought life would continue in this peaceful and happy way.

Unexpectedly, things still took a turn for the worse.

Early in the morning, guests arrived at our house.

When children reach a certain age, matchmakers will come to the door; this is something every family goes through.

Even though she never expected matchmakers to introduce her to anyone, she couldn't stop others from coming to her door to propose marriage.

"Dean Bai, your eldest daughter is getting on in years. Have you thought about finding her a husband?"

"I have plenty of good young men here! There's one that's perfect right now..."

Bai Yajing listened to her chattering away and was quite impressed. Being a matchmaker isn't easy, at least her eloquence was really good!

After she finished speaking, she immediately handed her tea, saying, "Aunt Liu, have some water to soothe your throat."

To be honest, we've never thought about this! My eldest daughter is still in university! She's still young.

I plan to keep her at home for a few more years so she can recover properly!

Aunt Liu understood what he meant as soon as she heard it, and thought about it and realized that this family was full of illustrious people, and the young men she had were really no match for them!

"Oh dear, look at me, it's alright. This time it's not suitable. I'll take a good look for you later, and you can come over when I find a suitable young man!"

"Uh... um, okay..." It wouldn't be good to refuse too directly, so I'll just let her go see it.

The afternoon sun shone brightly on the courtyard, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves.

Bai Yajing had just seen off Aunt Liu, who had come to propose marriage, and was lost in thought as she sat under the osmanthus tree in the courtyard.

Aunt Liu was talking about the second son of Old Xu's family at the east end of the street. He works at a steel mill and has a secure job. His family is also well-off.

It sounded like a good match, but Bai Yajing was not satisfied with it.

She had vaguely seen that Xu family boy a few times. He seemed clever, but his eyes were a bit unfocused, and he didn't seem like someone who would settle down and live a stable life.

Besides, Liu Liu... ever since that incident, she's become even more calculating. If we suddenly marry her off, would she be willing? Would she be able to live a good life?

Moreover, she wasn't some feudal matriarch who would marry off her daughters when they reached a certain age. She hoped that she would meet the person she could spend the rest of her life with in the future.

Bai Yajing sighed, and realized she needed to find out more; she couldn't just listen to the matchmaker's word.

Although she's not my biological daughter, I've raised her for so many years and we have a deep bond. Even if I were to find her a husband, I would have to be responsible for her and find a truly reliable family.

She had made up her mind, so she had already refused Aunt Liu, saying only that "the child is still young and I want to stay for another two years."

As she was pondering, she looked up and saw Liu Liu carrying a basin of washed clothes coming from the backyard. Her face was a little pale, and her eyes were darting away, not daring to look at her.

Bai Yajing's heart skipped a beat, guessing that she must have overheard those words.

This person finally got out of the room, don't let them get stuck inside again!

She wanted to explain, but then smiled and said, "The clothes are hanging on that line over there, they get very dry..."

Liu Liu quickly hummed in agreement, then lowered her head and walked over to hang up the clothes, her movements somewhat stiff.

Looking at her slender back, Bai Yajing felt uneasy. Wanting to ease the atmosphere, she continued the previous topic and tried to express her caution: "Aunt Liu came by earlier and was talking about the youngest son of Old Xu's family at the east end of the street."

It sounded alright, but I didn't agree. This isn't urgent; I need to observe it further. Knowing the whole story is the most important thing…

Her intention was to tell Liu Liu that she hadn't agreed casually and that she was also considering her feelings.

But Liu Liu heard these words and they took on a completely different meaning.
