Chapter 386 The Secret (2/2)

Her family isn't short of money; it's only eight or nine hundred yuan. What's wrong with letting her son spend it?

Bai Yajing saw the resentment in her eyes but didn't care. So what if she deliberately set it up?

If you don't have bad intentions, you won't fall into a trap, right?

"A week is too long. I'll give you three days at most to pack!"

Granny Liu was so angry her teeth ached, but with Officer Xie watching her intently, she had no choice but to agree.

She swallowed her humiliation and lowered her head, saying, "Fine!"

As Bai Yajing walked out of the garden, the setting sun shone directly on the two mottled characters on the lintel.

She gently stroked the weathered characters, as if she could feel the presence of her ancestors.

"Rest assured, ancestors, I'm about to take our home back," she said silently in her heart.

But Bai Yajing knew that things were not over yet.

The Liu family will not give up so easily; their last stand may be in the next three days.

She must be fully prepared to ensure everything goes smoothly.

The next day, she went to check on the interior of the courtyard herself.

She made an excuse to measure the house area and brought a measuring tape and camera to the front of the yard.

Surprisingly, Granny Liu let her in, but followed behind with a cold face the whole time.

Stepping into the courtyard, Bai Yajing felt a pang of heartache.

This small courtyard is in a good location, but the once meticulously maintained courtyard is now overgrown with weeds. The carved railings of the corridor have been sawed off and used as firewood, and the lattice doors of the main house have been replaced with simple wooden planks.

What pained her even more was that her grandfather's favorite study had been turned into a mahjong parlor! And there were tacky celebrity calendars pinned to the walls.

It seems Liu Hongbing comes from a family with a strong academic background!

It's strictly forbidden outside, but some fearless people still take the risk for money.

"Have you looked enough?" Granny Liu said impatiently. "What's so great about this dilapidated house that you're so concerned about it?"

"My own house has been coveted by some scoundrels for many years."

Eat less salt, you're so idle!

Granny Liu had lost several rounds of sparring with Bai Yajing, and now she knew she couldn't win an argument with her, so she simply stopped talking to avoid making herself sick again.

Bai Yajing suppressed her anger and raised her camera to photograph every trace of damage. When she walked to the next room, she noticed that several floorboards were clearly newly replaced.

"What's wrong here?" she asked, pointing to the floor.

Granny Liu looked at the spot she was pointing to, her expression suddenly becoming tense: "N-nothing...it's just that the floor is broken and they're replacing it. Are you going to measure it or not? If not, get out!"

Bai Yajing keenly sensed something was amiss, but outwardly pretended not to care. After measuring all the rooms, she said goodbye and left.

That night, she secretly sneaked into the room where she had noticed something amiss during the day.

She tiptoed into the room and found the newly replaced floorboard.

Upon closer inspection, she discovered a nearly invisible gap along the edge of the floor.

"There's a mechanism here..." She felt along the wall and finally found a small wooden wedge protruding from the baseboard. She pressed it down hard, and with a slight "click," a piece of floorboard lifted up slightly.

Lifting the floorboards revealed a small basement entrance. Xiaolan turned on her flashlight and carefully climbed down.

The basement wasn't big, only five or six square meters, but what was inside made her gasp in shock—

Several wooden crates were neatly stacked in the corner, covered with a moisture-proof cloth. Bai Yajing lifted the cloth and opened the top crate, which was filled with small yellow croakers, banknotes, and jewelry!

The other box contained calligraphy, paintings, antiques, and some documents...

"The Liu family is so rich? How come they were driven to such a state by debt collectors?"

Bai Yajing quietly flipped through the documents and found that they were ledgers of some transactions between Liu Hongbing and the anonymous person. The things recorded on them were truly eye-opening for her!
