Chapter 413 Honesty (1/2)

The next morning, Li Da went to Bai Yajing's house and then came to the hospital.

The pungent smell of disinfectant in the hospital corridor reminded Li Da of field hospitals on the battlefield.

As soon as I arrived at the ward door, I saw a small, thin figure huddled on a bench—it was Yueyue.

"Uncle Li!" The little girl stood up obediently when she saw him coming, tears still welling up in her eyes, but she held them back from falling in front of others.

"Aunt Bai said that you saved my mother. Thank you, Uncle Li!" She bowed deeply to Li Da to express her gratitude.

"You're welcome." Li Da's heart softened, and he quickly helped her up, his voice hoarse and unlike his own, "Your mother is the strongest person in the world, she'll be alright!"

These words brought tears that Xiaoyueyue had been holding back to fall.

No matter how sensible she is, she is only a teenager. Her mother is the last relative she has in this world. When Aunt Bai picked her up early this morning, she sensibly suppressed her panic and sadness, afraid of causing trouble for Aunt Bai and the others.

She only dared to shed tears when she was alone.

"Yes, Mom will be alright!" the little girl nodded firmly.

Li Da brought the child into the ward. Xiao Ying was still asleep. He gave the breakfast he had brought to Lin Huan.

"Comrade Lin, you've been on guard all night, go back and rest first. Grandma Xiang and the others are old, and I've persuaded them to stay home and wait."

"It's enough for me and Yueyue to be here."

Lin Huan hesitated and looked at Xiao Ying and Xiao Yueyue. Her sister-in-law was going to work today, so she went to the family compound early to pick up Yueyue and bring her over before going to work at the hospital.

She was now unsure whether she should let Li Da stay, after all, gossip could be a powerful force...

"Brother Li, isn't this inappropriate? I just need to rest for a while..."

Li Da knew what she was worried about, and chuckled, "I've already assured Grandma Xiang and Grandpa Kang that I will take good care of Yueyue and Comrade Xiao."

You don't need to worry about those things. I'll have something to say to her when she wakes up."

Last night, he went back and thought a lot. He realized that he had been thinking about Xiao Ying more and more often in the past two years. Every time he had a vacation, he would rush back to talk to her even just a few more words. He was no longer a naive young man, and he knew what that meant.

He could also sense that Xiao Ying wasn't indifferent to him. Every time he left, she would send him a lot of food she had made herself. Once, in winter, she even knitted him a pair of gloves.

Lin Huan was slightly taken aback upon hearing this. He remembered his sister-in-law joking about the two of them and also knew that his grandparents had once tried to match them up. He instantly understood why his grandparents had allowed him to come and stay with them.

"Oh, I understand! Then I'll leave them to you to take care of them. I'll come over to bring them lunch."

She blinked at Xiaoyueyue a few times to reassure her.

Lin Huan went home after having breakfast.

Every minute of waiting felt like an eternity.

Looking at Xiao Ying, who was still unconscious, Li Da's mind kept flashing back to her—her focused concentration as she sewed, her gentleness as she taught the children to sing, her cunning and strength in the face of the abusive man, her hesitant glance back at him as she saw him off...

When he saw her collapse yesterday, he thought, "What if... what if I never see her again?"

This thought pierced my heart like a knife.

It was at that moment that he realized that, without realizing it, Xiao Ying had become an indispensable part of his life.

Her kindness, her resilience, and the way she silently endured everything while still treating others with gentleness had already left a deep impression on his heart.

Xiao Ying lay quietly on the hospital bed, her face as pale as paper, with an IV drip in her hand.

Li Da sat carefully on the edge of the bed, wanting to touch her but afraid of hurting her, and in the end only gently held a corner of the quilt.

"Please wake up soon, okay?"
