While waiting for the top leader to return, Dong Guangming would go to see his daughter, Lao Que, every day after work.
Fortunately, the medicines here are readily available; otherwise, he would have had to risk taking Dong Baozhu to the hospital, which would have been troublesome to explain later.
These days, you have to report gunshot wounds to the hospital. They'll ask you all sorts of questions, like, "How did you, an ordinary person, get such an injury? Where were you injured?"
However, the reason for Dong Baozhu's injury must never be revealed.
He arrived with food and drinks right after I got off work today.
The first thing he asked casually was, "Old Magpie, how's Baozhu?"
When the old magpie saw him coming with the things, he smiled broadly, took the wine and food in a few steps, and didn't forget to reply, "You're awake, go and see him."
As he spoke, he placed the food and wine on the table, picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat. Dong Guangming had been visiting frequently lately, always bringing him food and drink, fearing that he wouldn't take good care of Dong Baozhu.
The magpie was happy to let him do this, as it satisfied his craving.
Dong Guangming stood there stunned for a few seconds, then realized what he had just said and turned around abruptly to look at him. "What did you say?"
Dong Baozhu remained unconscious, and he grew more and more disappointed each day until he had given up all hope.
So, what did the old magpie just say? His daughter woke up?
Old Magpie knew how he felt and waved his hand. "I gave her the ginseng you gave me, and she woke up right away. Go on, and don't forget, you have to give me a new reward."
Before he could even finish speaking, Dong Guangming had vanished like the wind. Old Magpie pouted and muttered, "I've lost so much money! If I don't get my money back, I'm not doing this!"
Dong Guangming hurriedly pushed open the door to the room where Dong Baozhu was currently living.
When he actually saw his daughter standing alive in the sunlight streaming in through the window, his eyes immediately welled up with tears.
His hands trembled as he reached out, wanting to touch but not daring to, afraid that he was dreaming.
"Bao, Baozhu? You're awake?" He spoke cautiously, afraid that raising his voice would shatter the illusion.
Dong Baozhu's eyes also reddened, and she rushed into her father's arms, "Daddy! I was so scared, I almost didn't see you again, waaaah..."
Dong Guangming was heartbroken. He held his daughter and cried his heart out. "Baozhu, my poor Baozhu, it's alright now, it's all over, you're doing well."
The father and daughter embraced and wept bitterly, releasing all the pent-up frustration and grievances they had been holding in.
After Dong Baozhu finally finished sobbing and venting, the father and daughter sat down for a proper chat.
"Is there anything else that's bothering you? I'll have your Uncle Magpie come over and take a look."
Although his daughter had woken up, he was still worried. After all, the old man had told him that she was seriously injured and had one foot in the grave. Even if Dong Baozhu woke up, her health was still severely damaged and she would need to take good care of herself in the future, as her health would deteriorate.
Dong Baozhu already knew about her physical condition from the old magpie.
The thought of her health deteriorating in the future, constantly getting sick, unable to even run, and needing to be pampered like a fragile doll filled her with intense resentment, and a storm was brewing in her eyes.
Her perfectly good life and healthy body were all ruined by Bai Yajing! She hates that bitch to death!
She remembered that Bai Yajing was still alive before she lost consciousness, and immediately asked, "I'm fine, Dad. Where is Bai Yajing? Is that bitch still alive?"
Did the person who saved me kill her?
Since someone went to rescue her, did they also kill that bitch while they were at it?
Looking at his thin, pale daughter, her face full of resentment, completely devoid of her former charming and lovely appearance, Dong Guangming felt a pang of pain in his heart.
"You were alive, there was no other way. Your condition was very dangerous at the time. The bullet only missed slightly. If you hadn't received immediate treatment, you would have died! They didn't dare to delay and had no choice but to send you back first!"
"But don't worry, Dad has already made arrangements. In two days, I will take you on a long trip. If something happens to her then, we won't be in Kyoto, so it won't be our problem."
We can clear our names then, Baozhu, be good and wait a little longer..."
