Chapter 492 Unexpected Discovery (1/2)

That evening, Bai Yajing returned from visiting her master's house for the New Year and heard about the matter. She strongly agreed with their approach.

“Well done. You can have Liu Liu and Yue Yue supervise.”

They are thoughtful and perceptive, and at twenty years old, it's time for them to gain some experience.

The mother and son chatted for a few more minutes, and after the matter was settled, Bai Jingxing got up to go back to his room.

"Mom, if you don't mind, then I'll go back to my room first. You and Dad should get some rest."

"Okay! You should get some rest too."

After her son left, Bai Yajing slapped her forehead and remembered that she had left her watch in her change of clothes today. She put on her military overcoat and walked out the door.

Seeing that she was going out so late, Xiao Che quickly got up and said, "It's cold outside. What are you going out for? I can go if you need me."

Bai Yajing was naturally pleased by her husband's thoughtfulness. She gave him a reproachful look and pushed him back to bed, saying, "You've already taken off your clothes, hurry up and go to sleep! I'll go get some things and be right back!"

The courtyard was quiet; everyone in the family was resting, and the cold wind of the first month of the lunar calendar still carried a biting chill.

She straightened her clothes and had just reached the corner of the yard when she heard a noise and suddenly stopped.

In the dim light of the lanterns ahead, a familiar petite figure stood before her son, clutching tightly in her hand something wrapped in cloth, her fingers turning slightly white from the force.

Liu Liu looked up at Bai Jingxing, her eyes shining brightly, filled with emotions that Bai Yajing was very familiar with, yet which should never appear in this moment—a look that a woman would have when looking at the man she loves, a mixture of admiration, shyness, and determination.

Bai Yajing was so shocked that her eyes widened, and she stood there dumbfounded for a moment.

"...Jingxing, this is a scarf I knitted for you. It's getting cold, so it will keep you warm..." Liu Liu's voice wasn't as clear as usual; it carried a slight tremor and softness, even a hint of coquetry.

Bai Jingxing seemed a little surprised, but he didn't take it immediately. Instead, he frowned deeply and said, "Sister, thank you for your kindness, but Mom bought me a new one. You can keep it for yourself."

He wasn't stupid. He had four siblings, and Wu Liu only knitted him a scarf. All his other siblings received gifts from her, which meant a lot to him.

Moreover, Wu Liu tonight felt completely different from usual to him. What hadn't he seen abroad? He had seen this girlish, lovesick look on many women before.

A thought flashed through his mind, leaving him completely at a loss...

He always treated Wu Liu as his older sister.

Wu Liu trembled slightly upon being rejected, her cheeks flushed red, and her eyes lowered. In her eyes, unseen by the person opposite her, there was longing, yearning, and a trace of... pain.

"I……"

Just as she was about to explain, she caught a glimpse of Bai Yajing standing frozen at the corner of her eye as she turned her head.

The color drained from her face instantly, as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her head. She abruptly pulled back the package she was clutching, as if she had been scalded.

The light in her eyes was instantly replaced by immense panic. She instinctively took a step back, her lips trembling, but she couldn't utter a single word.

Bai Jingxing turned around following Liu Liu's terrified gaze and saw his mother, whose face was calm and whose eyes were sharp. He was stunned for a moment: "Mom? Why did you come out?"

Bai Yajing did not answer her son immediately.

Her gaze seemed fixed, locked firmly on Wu Liu's pale face, which was filled with panic.

The air in the courtyard seemed to freeze, with only the rustling of leaves in the breeze and Wu Liu's increasingly rapid, almost undetectable breathing.

Bai Yajing's heart was in turmoil at this moment.

"Liu Liu..."

She may have instantly understood what had caused that vague sense of unease before, and what shocking secret the girl she had raised since childhood was hiding in her heart.
