When Bai Yajing arrived, she saw that the small courtyard at the foot of the mountain was bustling with activity.
Several familiar young women from the village gathered at the door, eagerly awaiting their arrival.
Bai Yajing didn't go to their place; instead, she took a detour into the mountains and climbed over the wall from the backyard.
This courtyard was just used as a cover; Xiao Che had only done some minor repairs to it before and hadn't paid much attention to it since.
Someone will come looking for him, and he'll probably come back when he finds out, since he can't afford to give himself away.
She decided to go find him.
As soon as they landed, they saw Xiao Che, who had heard the commotion, come out to check the situation.
"Ya Jing, what brings you here?"
Bai Yajing pointed with her chin towards the direction outside the front yard.
She leaned close to his ear and whispered, "What's going on? It's not good to leave them like this."
It's not good for those people to keep standing around the courtyard wall and looking inside!
The aunties, older women, and younger women in this village are known for their sharp tongues; rumors will be spreading by tomorrow!
Xiao Che looked helpless and shrugged, "Don't even mention it, they're all surrounding me and I don't dare go out! My reputation will be ruined if I'm not careful."
Besides, if no one's home, I'm afraid they might actually come in and look. The house will feel lifeless, and then things will get complicated.
Bai Yajing stroked her chin, her eyes darting around, and suddenly had a good idea.
She tiptoed and whispered in his ear, "If you keep doing this... if you keep doing this..."
The more Xiao Che listened, the brighter his eyes became, and he kept nodding, clearly very supportive of her idea.
So when the girls finally saw the person, they were all stunned!
A tall, burly man emerged, carrying a chicken in one hand and a knife in the other, his face stern and menacing.
He didn't even glance at the girls surrounding him, treating them as if they were invisible.
He crouched down, ignoring the chicken's struggles, and chopped off its neck with a single stroke. Blood spurted onto his face, making his already fierce-looking face even more menacing.
The girls gasped in shock. They had seen people kill chickens before, but this man's murderous look, coupled with his blood-covered face, was truly terrifying.
The girls all swallowed in unison.
That wasn't all. Then, he dipped the chicken with its neck broken into boiling water, scalded it briefly, and then swiftly grabbed a handful of feathers and plucked them out, sending feathers flying everywhere.
With a few quick swipes, all the fur was plucked off.
The girls stared wide-eyed, and involuntarily took a step back.
A sudden chill ran through them... and the girls huddled together.
Then, with a swift motion, he cleaved the chicken open and chopped it into pieces, a strange smile playing on his lips.
With the clatter of the falling blade, the group of people, their faces filled with fear, all took a few steps back.
A girl, startled, tugged at the sleeve of the girl next to her and whispered, "This person feels a little... um... strange!"
The girl she grabbed also looked terrified. "I felt like she was a little crazy, yes, crazy!"
"Let's go. Being good-looking is useless; he's too fierce! We probably can't handle him!"
"Yeah, I can't beat him. If we end up arguing, I'll be the one getting beaten up..."
Her mother said that when looking for a man, she had to find one she could control; she couldn't handle someone like that! She's incredibly fierce! And a bit crazy!
The others nodded in unison; they all thought the same thing!
After discussing it, the group realized they couldn't handle the situation.
So, the girls quickly all left.
After everyone left, Xiao Che put down his knife and breathed a sigh of relief.
God knows how tiring it was for him to pretend! He had to act fierce on one hand, and on the other hand, he had to give all the girls a sinister smile and show them how ruthless he was.
