Chapter 8 Getting on the Train (2/2)

However, Grandma was right. After thinking it through, she got up and went to the table, soaking her exposed skin on her face, neck, and hands for a while. When she looked up, her once bright, dignified, and elegant face had instantly turned sallow. In a crowd, she would be just as inconspicuous as a country bumpkin...

She had intended to keep a low profile, so she didn't bring any pretty clothes or shoes. Instead, she brought clothes and shoes made by her grandmother, the kind that country girls and young wives would wear.

Grandma ruffled her two braids, muttering, "It's rare for girls in our village to have such shiny black hair. Most of them have dry, yellowish hair from hunger. You're messing it up..."

"Oh, Grandma, I understand."

She was so worried about her granddaughter going on a long trip...

After the family had breakfast, her maternal grandparents took her to the train station in an oxcart.

Uncle Niu was startled when he saw her appearance, thinking she was sick or something.

It took a long explanation to put his mind at ease.

Upon arriving at the train station, I repeatedly assured the two elderly people that I would be careful and keep a low profile before boarding the train.

The weather is still a bit chilly, so there's no musty smell of sweat or stinky feet inside the green train.

"Thank goodness, what a wonderful time of year!"

After finding her seat and sitting down, she tucked her bag under the seat, opened the window, looked out, and waved to her grandparents, "Let's go back, Grandpa and Grandma..."

This was also her first time traveling far away alone. She was quite happy, but her two elderly parents were still worried.

As the train started moving, the figures of the two elderly people grew smaller and smaller until they became two black dots.

She had just closed the window when she realized that the area around her was already full of people.

Across from her was an older woman holding her grandson, who was currently clamoring for food.

Beside her was a couple who were looking at their child with doting eyes, coaxing him while constantly bringing him food.

The little boy even started to complain, slapping the pancake out of his mother's hand and crying, "I don't want this! I want an egg! I want candy!"

He looks exactly like a little tyrant...

The three elders treated her like royalty, speaking to her gently and coaxing her.

She sighed inwardly; these past two days and one night with Lu Chen were going to be tough...

I hope they get off the bus soon!

Unfortunately, God did not hear her prayers...

By noon, Bai Yajing was also hungry. She took out her package, unzipped it, and rummaged around in the cloth bag. In fact, she took out a food box from her jade pendant.

As soon as you open it, a wonderful aroma wafts out.

Inside is a golden-brown egg white pancake, something that rural families usually don't eat unless it's a special holiday.

The sight of it made several adults and children around me drool.

The little tyrant watched as she picked up one and stuffed it into her mouth, his eyes fixed on it.

She swallowed hard, then burst into tears, "Grandma! I want to eat! I want to eat egg pancakes too! Even a worthless brat can eat egg pancakes, so I want some too!"

Upon hearing this, Bai Yajing immediately became displeased, her brows furrowing. "Who are you calling a good-for-nothing? Didn't your mother teach you to be polite?"

Who is this person?!

The old woman and the young couple were trying to appease the little tyrant, but when she retorted, they immediately became angry as well.

"Oh, you sharp-tongued brat! It's your good fortune that my darling has taken a liking to your food!"

"That's right! You, get one for my sweetheart, the biggest one!"

Bai Yajing's eyes widened in disbelief, as if she had heard something utterly unbelievable!
