Luo Jingyan didn't recognize any of the male educated youths. Finally, she walked up to Xue Yanchen, probably because she had met him once before and was more familiar with him than the others.
She looked up at the tall Xue Yanchen and said, "Um, we've met before, you remember me, right?"
"I remember seeing him at the entrance of that alley."
"Yes, that's right. As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt, so we've gotten to know each other pretty well. My younger brother is coming to the countryside with me. He's still quite young, and I'm a little worried about him. Could he share a room with you so you can take care of him for me?"
Xue Yanchen looked at the girl in front of him, then glanced at Luo Changtian, and readily agreed: "No problem, leave him to me."
"Thank you, I knew you were a good person." Luo Jingyan gave him a thumbs up.
A good person?
Xue Yanchen was not fond of this word.
Luo Jingyan took two apples out of her bag and handed them to him: "Here, have some."
"Need not."
"Don't be so polite with me." Luo Jingyan directly stuffed the apple into his hand, and Xue Yanchen didn't refuse anymore. He handed one to Luo Changtian instead: "One for each of us."
Luo Jingyan remembered that when she met him in a hutong in Beijing before, the girl called him Yanchen. She asked Xue Yanchen, "I still don't know your name."
"Xue Yanchen".
Xue Yanchen was very open and honest. His voice was very pleasant to listen to, deep and magnetic, like a walking bass cannon.
Luo Jingyan carefully recalled the name. Why didn't she remember this person being mentioned in the book?
Was he even more of a cannon fodder than her, just an extra who was ignored by her?
Why did the author portray an extra as so handsome, especially with a hidden illness? It shouldn't have required so much attention.
Or perhaps this person didn't even exist in the original book.
After regaining her senses, she smiled and said, "My name is Luo Jingyan, I'm seventeen years old, you must be older than me."
The man gave a faint "hmm".
“Then I’ll call you Brother Xue.” She pulled Luo Changtian over: “This is my younger brother, Luo Changtian. Brother Xue, please take care of him.”
Luo Changtian said, "Sister, don't worry, I'm all grown up now, I can take good care of myself."
Luo Jingyan said, "I was just worried that you wouldn't be able to take good care of yourself. I'll feel more at ease if someone helps you. Go back to your room and get along well with Brother Xue."
"I see."
Xue Yanchen helped Luo Changtian carry his luggage. "Come on, let's go inside."
“Okay, Brother Xue, I can carry it myself.”
"fine."
Luo Jingyan smiled slightly. It seemed that this man wasn't as cold and heartless as he appeared on the surface.
Behind her, Du Yinan was whispering to Lin Shanshan.
"Shanshan, do you think she's so desperate for a man? She went over to try and get close to him right after meeting him just once. When she finds out he's impotent, tsk tsk, she'll regret it to death. She'll probably have nowhere to cry."
Luo Jingyan turned around abruptly, her sharp gaze sweeping over them. Du Yinan immediately fell silent and pulled Lin Shanshan back into the house.
Luo Jingyan didn't want to share a room with the two of them, so she took her luggage and went to another room. Jiang Manyue and Li Hongmei were in this room. They greeted each other. Because she was too tired, Luo Jingyan washed up and lay down on the bed and fell asleep not long after.
She felt refreshed after a good night's sleep. When she woke up in the morning, it was already bright. She stretched and got up to wash up.
As soon as I stepped outside, I heard a noisy commotion from the next room, and a few educated youths had gathered at the door to watch the commotion.
There was no way around it; Luo Jingyan was also a gossip and loved watching the drama unfold, so she joined in as well.
Unexpectedly, the people inside started fighting. Du Yinan grabbed Zhang Hongxia's hair, and Zhang Hongxia grabbed Du Yinan's braid. Neither of them would give in.
"Zhang Hongxia, how dare you damage my bag? You have to pay for it."
"I told you, I didn't mean it, and I've already apologized to you."
"What good is an apology? You have to pay for my bag, or I'll never forgive you. I'll beat you to death."
Lin Shanshan just watched coldly from the sidelines, showing no intention of helping Du Yinan whatsoever.
Annoyed by Du Yinan's harassment, Zhang Hongxia said, "Let go of me. I didn't know that was your bag."
Du Yinan was taken aback: "What do you mean? You mean if you knew it was my bag, you wouldn't have damaged it? Then whose bag do you want to damage?"
Zhang Hongxia most wanted to destroy Luo Jingyan and Lin Shanshan's belongings, since those two had humiliated her on the train.
Ke Luo Jingyan didn't sleep in the same room as her, and she mistakenly took Du Yinan's bag for Lin Shanshan's bag, which is why she accidentally damaged Du Yinan's bag.
"I, I didn't mean to damage anyone's bag, anyway, I didn't do it on purpose."
You must pay compensation.
"I have nothing to compensate you with."
"Alright then, in that case, don't blame me for being impolite."
Du Yinan let go of her, returned to the room, picked up Zhang Hongxia's bag, and tugged at it a few times.
Zhang Hongxia's bag was pieced together from old clothes. Du Yinan tore it in two places, and the contents fell out. Zhang Hongxia ran over and snatched her bag back, bursting into tears in anger.
"Waaaaah, I finally managed to make this bag out of old clothes from home, and you tore it to shreds."
Du Yinan sneered, "It's no big deal if you tear up your bag. I bought mine, and you ruined it."
You deserve it!
Zhang Hongxia was unwilling to give up and wanted to hit Du Yinan. At this moment, the person in charge arrived, scolded both of them, and calmed down the incident.
After the excitement ended, everyone dispersed.
After Luo Jingyan finished washing up, she went to find Luo Changtian. Luo Changtian also came to find her, holding two steaming hot buns in his hand, and handed one to Luo Jingyan.
