The captain was driven crazy by his words, but no matter who Aunt Hu brought up, he stuck to his principles.
"No matter how much you plead, or whoever you bring up, it won't make a difference. If I let you get involved, I won't be able to explain it to the other villagers. What am I supposed to do when everyone comes to me with their problems? You can only blame yourselves. You were reluctant to part with that little bit of sorghum back then, but now that you see others making money, you want to get involved and get a piece of the pie. There's no such thing as a free lunch."
"Captain."
"Alright, alright, stop talking." The captain waved his hand impatiently toward the gate, a gesture to shoo people away.
Aunt Hu felt a lump in her throat, unable to breathe properly. She gave a muffled snort and prepared to leave with Hu Sanqiang.

The three families left the brigade leader's house together. Aunt Hu was a troublemaker, and feeling resentful, she spoke ill of the brigade leader to the other two families.
"I think the brigade leader is really disrespectful to us. We're all from the same village and township, and we're all relatives. How can he be so heartless? We said so many nice things to him, but he didn't give us any face at all. Sigh, this is too much."
The other two families exchanged glances, and no one spoke. They were in the wrong and had no right to blame the captain.
They ignored Aunt Hu and went their separate ways with her and Hu Sanqiang.
Aunt Hu said angrily from behind them, "None of them have the guts of a rat; they don't even dare to say a word."
But then she sighed, "From now on, we can only watch others get rich."
At this moment, Hu Sanqiang, who hadn't spoken until now, said, "Mother, don't be sad. If you don't want to see those people get rich, I'll go over and burn that distillery down. Then they won't be able to make money, and you won't have to be sad anymore."
