After a while, Li Hongying stood up from the ground, picked up the empty basket, and swayed down the mountain.
Upon arriving at the Liu family home, Liu's mother immediately checked her basket. Seeing that it was empty, she couldn't help but get angry again.
"You've been out since this morning, all day long. Where are the mushrooms you picked? You didn't find any yesterday in the deep mountains, so I told you to pick some on the outskirts today, but you still haven't found any?"
She glared angrily at Liu Aiguo: "Aiguo, this is your good wife? She thinks we're fools, she's almost driven us crazy. She talks a good game, going up the mountain to pick mushrooms every day, but have you seen any mushrooms she's picked? I think she's just using this as an excuse to meet up with some other man."
"Mom, I saw some mushrooms today, but Kang Damei picked them first."

Li Hongying shook her head inwardly. She wouldn't believe anyone else who tried to fob her off with such an excuse.
But what reason could she use to persuade Liu and his mother?
Before she could find an excuse, Liu's mother started to lash out again, and she instigated Liu Aiguo.
"Patriotism, having a wife like this at home who betrays us and only goes out to find other men is a disaster for our Liu family. If outsiders find out, where will we put our family's face? You're a grown man, and your wife is cheating on you, how can you face anyone? Oh dear, what a misfortune for the family, what a misfortune for the family!"
As Liu's mother complained, she even managed to sing a tune.
Liu Aiguo already suspected that Li Hongying was having an affair with another man behind his back and had gone up the mountain on the pretext of a date. Now, with his mother stirring things up, his resentment towards Li Hongying rose even higher.
He walked up to Li Hongying with a fierce look in his eyes and raised his fist at her.
"Tell me, who is that wild man?"
"I, I don't have any other men."
"You dare lie?" he said, raising his fist to strike.
In her panic, Li Hongying quickly lowered her head to avoid the attack. Given Liu's mother and Liu Aiguo's opinion of her, if she continued to lie, they would mistakenly believe that she was having an affair, and Liu Aiguo would surely beat her half to death.
"Patriot, don't hit me. I actually went up the mountain to find treasure."
"Treasure!"
