Xue Yanchen didn't care about his words at all and said with a smile, "Your jinx will definitely not come true."
Zhao Jun scoffed, "Your jinx will never come true."
The two walked to the cafeteria. Along the way, Xue Yanchen would frequently touch the envelope in his pocket, and he did the same while eating, eating at an extremely fast pace.
Zhao Jun had only eaten half of his meal when Xue Yanchen had already finished his.
With food in his mouth, Zhao Jun said indistinctly, "You're always so anxious when you receive letters from Luo Zhiqing. You eat so fast, aren't you afraid of choking?"
Xue Yanchen stood up with the cutlery in his hand: "I'm going to wash the lunchbox. I'll go straight back to the dorm after I'm done. I won't wait for you. Enjoy your meal here."
"Let's go, let's go." Zhao Jun waved his hand, muttering under his breath as he ate his rice, "I know how you feel right now, you must be itching to go back and read the letter." Then he called out to Xue Yanchen, "Let's go to the bathhouse together tonight, we'll scrub each other."
"knew."
Xue Yanchen returned to the dormitory building with lightning speed. After entering his room, he closed the door, sat on the bed, and took the letter out of his pocket.
It hadn't even been a week since Luo Jingyan replied to his last letter, and she was already writing to him again so soon. Did she miss him too much? Should he take leave and go back to see her?
Thinking this way, her longing for her beloved intensified.
He tore open the envelope, took out the letter inside, and unfolded it. Lines of beautiful and elegant handwriting appeared before his eyes.
He started reading from the first line, but noticed something unusual at the opening.
Whenever they exchanged letters, they would at least not address each other by their full names, if not in an overly intimate or cheesy way. They would usually write "Comrade Jingyan" or "Comrade Yanchen".
However, the letter addressed him as "Comrade Xue Yanchen," immediately revealing a sense of distance.
The mere form of address chilled his already exhilarated mood, causing his brows to furrow involuntarily. He had been tempted to read on, but now he was afraid to continue.
He steadied himself and decided to continue reading.
Maybe Luo Jingyan is just teasing him on purpose. It's just a form of address, why make such a fuss?
Don't be so petty.
So he lowered his gaze and continued looking down.
After reading only a few lines, he lost his composure again, and his hands and lips began to tremble.
Because in the letter, "Luo Jingyan" said that she had decided not to delay him any longer and did not want to affect his future. She had unilaterally decided to break up with him. Moreover, she had found a new partner, and that new partner was Lu Chengye, whom he had met before.
She said she really liked Lu Chengye, that they were a perfect match in every way and got along very well together, and that she hoped he would stop writing to her and stop visiting her so as not to disturb her new life.
The contents of a letter are so brief, yet they can instantly tear a person's heart apart, leaving that person heartbroken.
As Xue Yanchen looked at those words, it felt as if his heart had been stabbed several times, as if it were being torn apart and pulverized into a pulp. Even being pierced by a thousand arrows couldn't compare to this.
The veins on his hand holding the letter bulged, his head was buzzing, and even his vision was blurring.
She said she wanted to break up with him from the beginning when she learned his identity, but she still chose this path in the end, and this time she was even more determined than when she first found out his identity.
However, this was not the real reason for his breakdown, because if that were all, he could have easily made up for it by retiring from the military. But now, another Lu Chengye had appeared.
Lu Chengye!
Lu Chengye!!
Lu Chengye!!!
Back in the Victory Brigade, Luo Jingyan said that she had once liked someone, and he only noticed that she paid special attention to Lu Chengye. Could it really be that Lu Chengye?
He lay down on the bed, feeling dizzy and lightheaded. His head hit the wall with a thud, but he couldn't feel anything.
I don't want to think about anything, and I dare not think about anything.
She even wished she could become a mindless idiot, devoid of the ability to think, so she wouldn't have to endure this excruciating pain.
Then, he seemed to have truly lost his mind, his eyes fixed on the white roof above, unblinking, as if he had died with his eyes open.
A dozen minutes later, Zhao Jun returned from the cafeteria, his gossip burning brightly. He wanted to tease Xue Yanchen, so he walked to Xue Yanchen's room and tried to sneak in without knocking.
Usually, as long as there are people in their rooms, they won't lock the door from the inside until bedtime. Zhao Jun gently pushed the door open.
He poked his head in, scanning the room with a probing gaze, but instead of seeing his superior, who was glowing with the glow of love, he only saw a man lying quietly on the bed, staring at him like a dead dog.
What exactly happened?
His brows furrowed as he pushed open the door and went inside. He saw an envelope and a letter on Xue Yanchen's desk. He didn't dare to read the contents of the letter and instead turned his gaze directly to Xue Yanchen.
The man lay on the bed, lifeless, as if he were truly dead, with only his eyes open, as if he had died with his eyes open.
He seemed to understand what had happened.
The person in question wasn't overjoyed by love; rather, they were devastated by it.
How could this happen so suddenly?
