In the Xue family's living room
The old woman, holding a wooden stick, wanted to go back to her room.
Xue Ningyu walked over: "Grandma."
She was afraid the old lady would be upset, so she wanted to keep her company, but the old lady waved her hand and refused, saying, "I'm fine, I'm going back to my room to rest."
When Mr. Xue heard that there was no more noise, he came out of the study and went to the bedroom. As soon as he entered, he saw Mrs. Xue sitting on the edge of the bed wiping away tears. He sighed heavily and sat down on the other side of the bed with his head down.
When Xue's mother saw him come in, she couldn't help but start complaining.
"Yunshan, what's going on? She's been full of crooked thoughts since she was little. We've taught her a lot about how to be a good person over the years, but she just won't learn to be good and she just can't change."
Mr. Xue was also very troubled. They had done everything they could, but their second daughter was just not living up to their expectations.
“Minghui, try to think positively. We’ve done our duty by raising the children and teaching them everything we needed to. We’re not a family that favors boys over girls; we’ve never treated any of the three children unfairly. As for why one of them has always been skewed…”

In another room
Luo Jingyan and Xue Yanchen both went outside and there was no sound. Xue Yanchen came out of the room first and, seeing that Xue Ningnan was no longer there, told Luo Jingyan, "She's gone."
"If they're leaving, then they're leaving."
After a while, Xue Ningyu walked in and said to Luo Jingyan, "Jingyan, Grandma has already reprimanded Ningnan for what happened earlier, so please don't take it to heart."
"Big sister, I don't care. Her opinion alone can't change anything and won't affect me and Yanchen."

After a while, Xue Ningyu also left to go back to her husband's house.
After Xue Yanchen returned to his room, Luo Jingyan stood at the door and looked towards the door of Old Madam Xue's room.
The commotion just now was quite significant. With such an internal conflict occurring within the family, the Xue family members must be feeling terrible.
Mr. and Mrs. Xue can comfort each other, but the old lady is all alone and has no one to confide in. I wonder if she is asleep yet.

When Grandma Xue returned from the toilet, she took Luo Jingyan into her room.
Grandma Xue's bed is big enough that two people can lie down comfortably.

Luo Jingyan obediently lay down next to her, and the old lady also lay down, sighing, "I'm so sorry that Ning Nan said some unpleasant things without thinking just now. To quickly move past this unpleasant topic, the old lady changed the subject and asked Luo Jingyan, "Jingyan, remember I told you about my wartime experiences during the day? Would you like to hear stories from when Grandma was young? Grandma will tell you."
"Grandma, please tell me, I'm really curious."
The things Luo Jingyan knew about the war came from history books, TV dramas and movies, or the internet. They weren't necessarily true, and many details weren't clearly described. She really wanted to hear the specifics of what happened from someone who had experienced it firsthand.
"Child, it's a long story, so let me start from my childhood. I was born into a landlord's family and had a comfortable childhood, never experiencing much hardship. "Grandma, you're awake."
