Xue Ningnan was still quite unconvinced when this was mentioned.
"Just because she's ignoring me now doesn't mean she'll never talk to me again. Don't worry, as long as I stay here and keep being nice to them, I don't believe they can keep treating me like an enemy. After all, I'm Yanchen's older sister. Even if blood is broken, siblings are still connected. Given time, their anger will subside, and they'll naturally make up with me."
"Alright then, I'd be happy if you could make up with them, but don't rush things, take it slow."
"I know."
In the dead of night
"Yanchen! Yanchen!"
Luo Jingyan woke up from her dream covered in sweat. She sat up and recalled the scene in her dream where Xue Yanchen was riddled with bullets from the enemy. Her heart pounded as if it was about to jump out of her throat.
Her call woke up Old Mrs. Xue.
"What's wrong, Jingyan? Did you dream about Yanchen?"
"Grandma, I dreamt that Yanchen was covered in blood. He was riddled with bullet holes by enemy bullets. Grandma, I was so scared."
Hearing her words, Old Mrs. Xue also became uneasy.
She took Luo Jingyan's hand and comforted her, "Don't worry, things in dreams are always the opposite of reality, they won't come true. Listen to Grandma, go to sleep peacefully, maybe they'll be back in a few days."
After being comforted by Old Madam Xue, Luo Jingyan slowly lay down again.
But in the middle of the night, her mind was filled with the scenes from her dream, and she couldn't fall asleep no matter what she did.
Not only her, but the old lady also didn't sleep much.
After dawn, the old lady still insisted on going to exercise. Luo Jingyan went with her and met Commander Lu, who was also up early, on the way. Luo Jingyan went up to him and asked, "Comrade Commander, do you know how the battle at the front is going?"
Commander Lu stopped and said, "You want to know when Yan Chen can come back, right? That's hard to say. However, once we achieve a stage victory, we will let them come back to recuperate. We won't rely on them to fight forever."
Luo Jingyan nodded. Xue Yanchen wouldn't be back for a while, and she hoped he wouldn't be in any danger.
But that night, she had that dangerous dream again, the same scene, the same man riddled with bullet holes.
After Luo Jingyan woke up, Grandma Xue asked, "Jingyan, did you have another nightmare?"
"Yes, Grandma, I dreamt of the same thing as last night again."
Grandma Xue sighed: "Grandma also had a bad dream, similar to yours. Yanchen was in danger and his life was hanging by a thread."
"Grandma, do you think it might just be our imagination?"
"It's inevitable that there will be dangers in their line of work, and it's also inevitable that their families will worry."
Luo Jingyan pulled the blanket up a little higher for Grandma Xue: "Grandma, I understand. Let's not think about it so much. Let's go to sleep."
"Go to sleep."
However, just like yesterday, the two of them spent another sleepless night.
By the third day, Luo Jingyan had had that dangerous dream for the third time, and she and Grandma Xue spent another sleepless night.
Luo Jingyan said, "Grandma, whether this dream is real or not, instead of worrying every day, I want to go there and see for myself."
Grandma Xue wasn't afraid to go to the front lines. After all, she had spent several years on the battlefield when she was young, and she had experienced all kinds of bloodshed and gunfire.
"Okay, if you want to go, Grandma will go with you."
“Grandma, since I’m going there, it’s not just to visit Yanchen. If there’s anything I can do to help, I’ll do my best. But you’re getting old, and this trip will be arduous, not to mention the dangers at the front. You should stay here, or you can go back to Beijing.”
“You haven’t slept for three days, and neither have I. Not being able to sleep every day is also a kind of torture. Don’t worry, Grandma won’t go to fight. We can take care of the wounded in the logistics. You’re a good cook, so make some good food for the soldiers. They’ll have the strength to fight.”
"Okay, Grandma."
After discussing it, the two of them ate and then went to find Commander Lu.
When Commander Lu heard that they wanted to go to the front lines together, he was shocked.
"You two are going to the front lines too, but it's very dangerous."
Other military wives have never had such thoughts.
Luo Jingyan said, "Comrade Commander, although we can't go to the front line to fight, we can do what we can. More people means more strength, and we can achieve victory sooner."
Commander Lu admired Luo Jingyan's initiative in volunteering. He knew that Luo Jingyan was skilled and much better than the average military wife, and should be able to protect herself.
He looked at Old Madam Xue: "Is it you, senior?"
Grandma Xue glared at him: "What's wrong? Do you look down on the elderly? Let me tell you, I'm still very healthy. Xiao Lu, we won't fight there, but we can do logistics and help those comrades in need. Is that alright?"
Commander Lu pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement: "Alright, a group of soldiers will be heading to the front lines tomorrow morning. You can travel with them by car."
"Yes, Commander."
Luo Jingyan and Grandma Xue immediately went back to pack their things. The next morning, they and more than a hundred soldiers rode in pickup trucks to the front line.
After more than a day of driving, we finally arrived near the border, which is also the location of one of the parties involved in this conflict.
This conflict was primarily caused by the deliberate provocation of soldiers from a neighboring country who deliberately crossed the border and fired rockets at villages within our territory. With the support of other major powers, they attempted to disrupt border peace and encroach upon our land, constituting an act of aggression. In reality, these major powers wanted to use this neighboring country as a springboard to intervene in the war and strike against our country.
