Chapter 76 Shock

Luo Jingyan witnessed Lai Chunming acting erratically, as if he had been split into two people and was harming himself.

She walked up to Lai Chunming again and asked him, "Lai Chunming, who am I?"

“You’re a ghost, and a lecherous one at that. Your name is Lai Chunming, shameless Lai Chunming. You’re incredibly audacious. How many female educated youths have you slept with? Tell me. You’re despicable, shameless, and filthy. You’re the worst kind of person.”

"Then who are you?" Luo Jingyan asked again.

"I, I..." Lai Chunming didn't know how to answer for a moment. He couldn't remember, so he raised his hand and painfully hugged his head, then squatted down on the ground.

Luo Jingyan: "Actually, you are that lecherous Lai Chunming. You are incredibly audacious and utterly wicked. You deserve to die and go to hell!"

Lai Chunming immediately nodded: "Yes, yes, yes, what you said is true. I was a lecherous scoundrel. I am Lai Chunming. I am utterly wicked. I deserve to die. I should be subjected to the most excruciating punishments."

As he spoke, he found a stone on the ground, picked it up, and smashed it heavily against his other hand, letting out a scream like a pig being slaughtered.

But the next second, he became smug: "Lai Chunming, you bad guy, you've been punished, haven't you? You deserve it, I'll smash you to death, smash you to death!"

He took the stone and smashed it against his injured hand several more times until it became a bloody mess.

While screaming and yelling in pain, Lai Chunming continued to swing stones down without any mercy.

The commotion was quite loud, and Luo Jingyan was afraid it would attract the attention of the surrounding villagers. She had already taught Lai Chunming a lesson; given his crazy and erratic behavior, he would definitely have a harder time living than dying.

She opened the door and went out first. Before she had gone far, Lai Chunming also came out, running wildly and laughing maniacally. In no time, he disappeared without a trace.

Luo Jingyan went into the space, removed her makeup, changed her clothes, and then came out.

She walked to the outside of the educated youth settlement, listened to the sounds outside the wall, and when she heard nothing from inside, she carefully climbed over the wall, went back to her room, and then went to sleep in her personal space.

The next morning, as soon as she got up, she heard a commotion in the courtyard. When she went out to see what was going on, she found several other educated youths talking about something outside.

When the educated youth saw her, their gazes were noticeably different.

Du Yinan deliberately said loudly, "Oh dear, how come Lai Chunming suddenly went crazy? Not only did he go crazy, he also made himself look like a ghost, and he even smashed his own hands."

Lai Chunming approached Luo Jingyan the day before yesterday, probably intending to offer her some benefits. Now, Luo Jingyan has lost one of her backers.

Luo Jingyan went out and deliberately asked Shen Ruyi what had happened. Shen Ruyi then told her about Lai Chunming's sudden madness and self-harm overnight.

Luo Jingyan said, "Then we educated youth settlement must be careful, and make sure he doesn't come in and cause trouble."

"Well, we should keep the gate closed during the day too. We can only go back to normal when the Lai family stops him from leaving the house."

Shen Ruyi said, "Jingyan, I heard from the villagers that Lai Chunming went mad because he was frightened by Zhang Zhiqing's spirit. Jingyan, Zhang Zhiqing's spirit has returned, aren't you afraid?"

Luo Jingyan was not afraid at all, but she still pretended to be terrified.

"Sister Ruyi, is what you said true? That Zhang Zhiqing has been dead for more than a year. Shouldn't her soul be in the underworld by now? How could she come back?"

"Several people have said the same thing. Lai Chunming kept muttering that he was sorry to Zhang Zhiqing and sorry to the child in her belly. Lai Chunming himself admitted that the child in Zhang Zhiqing's belly was his. Sigh, it seems we were all right."

Now the whole village knows this secret, so she doesn't need to hide anything when she tells it.

"Oh, so that Lai Chunming really is really despicable."

Du Yinan said gloatingly, "Luckily we didn't stay in that haunted house."

Shen Ruyi glared at her and asked Luo Jingyan, "Jingyan, if you're scared, move back."

Luo Jingyan refused: "No, I'm afraid some people won't welcome me. Zhang Zhiqing is probably back for revenge. I haven't hurt Zhang Zhiqing, and I believe she won't hurt me either."

"Jingyan, you're too bold."

"Sister Ruyi, don't worry, I'll be fine."

In the village, Lai Chunming was covered in blood and ran around the streets like a fool.

He muttered to himself, "Zhang Zhiqing, Ziyue, please, please don't kill me. I regret it. I shouldn't have forced you to sleep with me. That child, I can't keep that child. You slept with Laizi, so you're Laizi's wife now. Hahaha, Zhang Ziyue, I, I was just playing with you. No, don't take my life. You and your child are worthless. You deserve to die."

He talked as he walked, though his words came out in fragments and sometimes seemed illogical. But when he mentioned Zhang Ziyue, the child, and Lai Zi, it inevitably reminded the villagers of the time when Zhang Ziyue and Lai Zi were caught in adultery and she committed suicide by jumping into the river.

It appears that Lai Chunming did indeed force Zhang Ziyue, got her pregnant with his child, and then arranged for her to sleep with Lai Zi. Unable to accept Lai Zi as her man, Zhang Ziyue committed suicide by jumping into the river.

They knew Lai Chunming was no good, but they never imagined he would be this bad. They can only say he deserved to end up in such a state.

Lai family

As Secretary Lai was stretching in the yard after getting up in the morning, a young man from his clan came over to deliver a message.

"Second Uncle, Chunming has gone mad. He's covered in blood and is running around the village right now. We need to bring him back quickly."

Upon hearing this, Secretary Lai was startled and then scolded the messenger: "Nonsense! How can you joke like that with your uncle? Chunming is perfectly fine and is about to be promoted to a cadre position in the county. Don't spread rumors. Chunming is sleeping in his room and hasn't gotten up yet."

"Second Uncle, I'm not lying. I saw Chunming running around in the street like a madman. I wasn't the only one who saw it; many other people saw it too."

"You, everything you said is true?"

“It’s absolutely true. If you don’t believe me, go out and see for yourself.” When Secretary Lai saw how certain he was of his words, his head suddenly went blank.

He rubbed his forehead and asked Fan Jinglan, "What happened to Chunming? Didn't he sleep at home last night? Is he still in his room?"

Fan Jinglan had mixed feelings. After learning that Lai Chunming had gone mad, she felt a sense of vengeful pleasure, but at the same time, she felt a sense of crisis. Without Lai Chunming, her and her child's life would become difficult.

She replied, "Chunming went out last night and hasn't come back yet."

Secretary Lai knew that his son was a womanizer and hadn't returned home all night. Could it be that what his family said was true?

That was his most valued son, who was about to be promoted. How could such a thing suddenly happen?

He angrily vented his anger on Fan Jinglan, slapping her across the face and drawing blood from her mouth.
