Chapter 159 Accepting the Clothes

"You have no right to speak unless the master speaks," the woman in red reprimanded.

The woman looked extremely unwell, but she didn't say anything and simply stepped aside.

The woman in red led Jiang Huaifu and Song He'er on a tour of the warehouse, glancing at others every now and then.

“This young lady doesn’t look much like you at all. The young master has deep-set eyes, but the young lady has a high forehead, like someone from the Central Plains.”

Jiang Huaifu remained silent, his expression cold, as if he were complaining that the woman had asked too many questions.

“Even brothers can look different, let alone siblings. This lady is probably overthinking it,” Song He’er replied calmly.

The woman in red didn't want to upset the two of them, since she would have to rely on them for her future business. Even if she had a great deal of curiosity, she could only suppress it for now.

As Song He'er walked, she observed the production process in the workshop. Although she had never been exposed to these things in modern times, she thought that if she found a reliable person to teach her, it wouldn't be too difficult.

She has money, however much she needs, it just depends on whether she has the time and opportunity.

Thinking of this, Song He'er couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Sneaking out like this wasn't a solution. She needed to find a good opportunity to talk to Qin Xiaoniang and the others about this, so as to lay the groundwork for a smooth escape in the future.

"You're daydreaming again. I brought you here to see the goods, not to let your thoughts wander off into the distance..."

Reminded by Jiang Huaifu, Song He'er put aside her ulterior motives and followed him into another large warehouse to begin inspecting the silks.

"So much silk, in all colors, what do you need so much for?" Song He'er whispered to Jiang Huaifu.

"What can silk be used for? Of course, it's for making clothes. What's wrong with you today? Is something on your mind? You seem a bit clumsy and silly."

"You...you make clothes? Do you have any employees? In Nanzhao, the bigger the tree, the more the wind will blow against you. You'd better be careful. You can start from the bottom and be sure of success. You can ask for a small amount and try making a little bit!"

Song He'er is a very meticulous person; she would never do anything without careful planning.

Jiang Huaifu smiled slightly, "If I didn't even have this much confidence, would I have brought you to Nanzhao? You should know that although the place you are in is a wild land, very few people escape from it. Do you think my ships frequently travel on the Suhe River and those soldiers don't know? Of course, I made arrangements in advance."

The two spoke in very low voices, their whispering manner inevitably giving off a somewhat ambiguous vibe.

The woman in red was quite sensible; she gradually slowed her pace and distanced herself from the two women.

"No wonder my father knew about my private dealings with you. It seems it was all thanks to those soldiers. Those bastards, they eat whose food and serve whose life, and they speak one way to one person and another way to another."

"You should keep this to yourself and not say it out loud. When you go into business and mingle in the business world, you'll still have to speak to people in a way that suits them. Do you expect people to belittle you and say things they don't like to hear if they want to buy your products?"

Jiang Huaifu is right; businessmen's words are always half true and half false.

Just like that small vendor from earlier, even though he hadn't seen her face, he kept praising her beauty, which was truly disgusting.

After walking around for a long time, her legs were so thin from all the walking, and Song He'er finally memorized the appearance of the entire workshop.

When she came out, the woman in red was very polite and gave Song He'er a long-sleeved dress with the same water sleeves that she was wearing.

"This... thank you, but I don't usually go out much, so I'm afraid I won't be able to fit into this outfit."

"It's alright, it looks just as good at home. There's no need to change into it on the street. Take it. I noticed you downstairs at the teahouse. You were staring at my clothes the whole time, so you must like them too."

Jiang Huaifu gave her a look, signaling her to accept it.

Song He'er took the clothes without hesitation. Even if she couldn't wear them, it would be good to take them back and study them carefully.

"Then thank you, madam."

"No need for thanks. The carriage is outside. I'll go and inform them so they can take you back."

"Um."

The woman in red was very proper and didn't try any tricks to waste time on the price. Instead, she took the two back to the teahouse at the agreed time.

On the way back, Song He'er carefully smelled the clothes and felt that there was a sweet and exotic fragrance on them, as if no one had ever worn them.

"How strange. Usually, when a shop makes clothes for people, the fabric smells, but this one smells nice. Could it have been taken off from someone else?"

Jiang Huaifu rolled his eyes at her. "You really are... Who would take off their own clothes and give them away? Especially women's clothes. If a man picks them up, wouldn't it be impossible to explain yourself?"
