Chapter 229 Returning to Nanzhao to Build a House (1)

The maid stammered, unable to give a coherent explanation for a moment.

Shen Jiadai immediately sensed something fishy was going on, but she couldn't confront him on the spot. If Jiang Huaifu was faking his death, she would have to help him deceive the Queen outside to avoid her noticing. Otherwise, all her plans would be in vain.

"You may go in now; I'll go outside and take a look first."

"Yes, little princess."

Having received the order, the maid continued to bow her head and went inside with the things in her hands.

Shen Jiadai remembered that on the way to the prison with Song He'er, they saw a soldier carrying a sack on his shoulder. It looked like it was filled with something heavy, but it was more like it was filled with a 'person'!

Thinking of this, Shen Jiadai couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine.

Is my cousin planning to fake his death to escape?

So he found a dead body to disguise himself in an attempt to deceive his aunt?

The more Shen Jiadai thought about it, the more unbelievable it seemed. If that were really the case, where did the person go? Did they grow wings and fly away?

No! She had to go to the prison to see Song He'er and tell her the news as soon as possible!

"Little princess, where are you going? Her Majesty the Queen is unwell. Why don't you stay and take care of her?"

Shen Jiadai had no mind to stay and serve the Queen anymore. She was now eager to know where Jiang Huaifu had gone and to verify whether her guess was true.

"Aunt Miao, I have to go out for a bit. I have some things to take care of. Please take good care of my aunt for me. I'll be back in a little while!"

Before A Miao could even ask what was going on, Shen Jiadai had vanished without a trace.

Along the way, everyone was busy with the news of the prince's sudden death, and there were even some gloating concubines who came to visit him insincerely.

"Little princess, where are you going? The palace is in such chaos right now, it's best if you stay home. If some fool offends you, wouldn't it be my fault for not managing my subordinates properly?"

"I'm asking you, is the person I just told you to send to jail still safe and sound?"

The soldier's face was grim. After a long silence, he stammered, "Her Majesty the Queen just issued an imperial decree ordering the execution of Miss Song..."

"What? When was this decree issued? How come I didn't know about it? Did you all grow wings and fly over there to receive it?"

"Princess, please don't joke. Just now when you went to Yangyue Palace, the imperial decree was sent out as soon as you entered."

"You bastard!"

Shen Jiadai pushed the soldier aside and ran quickly toward the prison.

As I approached the cell, I suddenly smelled a pungent odor of smoke, as if something was burning.

"Quickly, quickly! The last cell has been blown up! Sparks are coming out. We mustn't let it set fire to the other cells. Go and call the fire brigade!"

The soldiers guarding the prisoners inside rushed out.

"Stop right there! What happened?"

"Little princess, you must go back quickly! Something strange has happened in one of the cells. Somehow, a huge hole was blown in it, and one of the prisoners escaped. We must hurry and inform the king, lest the enemy army invade!"

Looking at their disheveled state, Shen Jiadai couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Ahem, in peaceful times, where would enemy troops come from? You little rascals must have let the prisoners escape and made up this story on purpose!"

"Little princess, you must be joking! This is a capital offense!"
