Chapter 39

Chapter 39

The world is like a giant steamer, getting hotter day by day. People sweat profusely even when they are not moving. The height of summer has arrived.

Fang Xiaoyu doesn't need to work during the day and travel at night because she has a motorhome, but most motorhome owners have reversed their schedules, which means they sometimes encounter passing cars at night.

Most passing cars just glance at the RV with envy and then move on, but a few will try to take a look.

Fortunately, she wasn't sleeping too soundly, Wang Le was quite alert, and with the eldest princess around, they weren't attacked.

But because of this, the two decided to take turns working the night shift.

That night, it was pitch black outside. Fang Xiaoyu was lying on the upper bunk watching a silent TV series on her phone, working through the long night, when she suddenly heard the roar of an engine outside. She swiped her finger to switch to the RV's camera and checked the situation outside.

A black sedan with its high beams on approached from behind. Upon seeing the RV in front, it gradually slowed down and stopped about ten meters away, turning off its lights.

First, one person got out of the passenger seat to test the waters. Finding it quiet and still, he assumed the person inside was fast asleep and waved. Two more people got out of the car, each wearing a black T-shirt and black pants, carrying a wrench. They crept closer, their purpose obvious.

Wang Le had only been asleep for a short time when he was awakened. He got up quietly, leaned closer to examine the area, and discovered something behind him. He pointed to that spot with his finger.

Fang Xiaoyu also saw it. Faced with the choice between reminding others and protecting herself, she chose to remind them, quietly lowered her privacy curtain, and the lit-up phone screen displayed the two words she had just typed: "There's a bear!"

The one in the lead had already slipped to the back of the RV, facing the area below the window. When he noticed the commotion, he froze, even raising his wrench. After seeing the words on his phone, he looked back in disbelief, his eyes widening instantly.

A hundred meters behind, there was indeed a large black bear, its body taller than an adult, slowly approaching along the road.

Perhaps because it was upwind, or perhaps because it was unfamiliar with the smell of humans, or perhaps because of the dim light and poor eyesight, it did not notice the three people in front of it for the time being.

Inside the RV, after reminding the people outside, Wang Le turned to walk towards the driver's seat, but Fang Xiaoyu stopped him and mouthed, "What are you doing?"

Wang Le answered silently: "Drive away."

Fang Xiaoyu's eyes wavered slightly, then she shook her head: "They didn't get on the car. If they make a fuss, something bad will happen."

At this moment, the one in the lead was unaware that the brief exchange between the two above had put them on the brink of life and death for a moment. When he was reminded, he was initially terrified, but he remembered that he could not make a sound. He kept his mouth shut and frantically gestured for his companions to look back.

The two people behind them saw the gesture and looked back simultaneously, their faces turning pale. How could there be a bear?!

The next second, the two of them tiptoed back even faster than when they came.

Fortunately, they were not far from the car, and the car door was not closed. They were able to get on the car safely in less than ten seconds.

He was a step behind in the lead, but his feet were sparking as he got back to the car before the black bear arrived, locked the doors, and didn't dare to breathe.

The black bear has extremely keen hearing. After picking up the faint sound, it looked around in confusion. Its clumsy body moved very fast. When it reached the back of the black car, the door had just locked.

It smelled the fuel, shook its head in disgust, and circled around from back to front.

The man with the buzz cut who led the way and the driver held his breath and quietly climbed to the back seat. He gently moved the already limited supplies to the front right seat to make more space for the back. The three of them squeezed together and lay down.

They were glad that the car windows had privacy film on. It was late at night, and the car lights were off. Only the dim streetlights outside provided some light, making it difficult to see what was happening inside the car.

The black bear moved to the front of the car, curiously raised its paw and scratched the car body, causing the car to visibly shake.

The three huddled tightly into the car. Someone took a deep breath, but was quickly covered by someone else's mouth.

The big black bear lowered its head and sniffed lightly, occasionally covering its nose.

What a strange smell. Let me smell it again.

It shook the car and heard the sound of small things overturning and colliding inside. A sense of curiosity arose, and its eyes widened. The car was pitch black inside.

Unable to find the entrance, it slammed its paw against the windshield.

The right half of the windshield cracked instantly, forming a mesh-like pattern.

With another slap, a grab, and a scoop, the right half of the glass shattered completely.

The black bear reached inside with its paws several times, scratching the packaging bag and making a rustling sound.

It tried again, and everything fell under the seat.

There was no reward; instead, the bear paw felt as if it had been lightly pricked by something. It didn't hurt, but it still recoiled in fright.

How do you prick a bear like a hedgehog?

A hint of confusion and frustration flickered in the black bear's eyes. It tried again but was pricked once more. Unable to see anything inside the dark vehicle, and finding no food, it licked its paws, sniffed the air, and turned its head, its attention falling on the white RV.

This is actually more attractive to bears; the aroma of meat is irresistible, and it seems to contain honey, but the pungent smell is also stronger.

Fang Xiaoyu and the others were very nervous, especially when they heard the sound of a car window shattering from behind.

The car windows and privacy curtains that had been briefly opened were now tightly closed, and all the car's air conditioning and other devices that made noise, as well as the screens and cameras that emitted light, were turned off.

The two people and their dog, carrying self-defense tools, squeezed into the bathroom. Since they had missed the best time to escape, this was the only place in the car without windows, making it a convenient hiding spot.

Fearing that the eldest princess might suddenly cry out, Fang Xiaoyu gently pinched its mouth and gestured to calm it down.

Suddenly, the RV began to sway from side to side.

It's here!

The cabinets outside were all locked or had strong magnetic closures, so the vehicle's movement didn't have much of an impact. However, the bottles, jars, bags, and papers inside the cabinets inevitably made noises from bumping and rubbing against each other.

The black bear shook for a while, then heard a noise and tried to peek inside through the gap in the carriage curtain, but unfortunately couldn't see anything clearly.

It didn't give up. Instead, it circled the car, but couldn't find the entrance for a while. So it raised its heavy claws and tentatively patted and scratched the car, leaving obvious dents and scratches on the car body, and occasionally making a teeth-grinding, scratching sound.

Not only did the people inside and outside the vehicle grimace, but the black bear itself seemed to be struggling to bear it as well.

By this time, it had circled back to the rear of the vehicle and suddenly bumped into the spikes. Enraged, it moved to a spot in front of the RV where there were no spikes, opened its foul-smelling, blood-red mouth, and bit down hard. With a thud, the tires and nearby metal were instantly destroyed.

The three people in the black car watched Black Bear's actions, and the third person in the car gasped, "We're doomed."

The crew-cut man covered his mouth again and took the lead by muttering in a low voice, "Idiot, shut up."

The black bear's ears twitched, but it ignored them for the time being.

Fang Xiaoyu swayed with the car in the cramped bathroom, enduring the swaying with her teeth clenched. The eldest princess's fur stood on end, and she tried to rush out to distract the black bear, but Fang Xiaoyu held her tightly, her mouth pinched shut so she couldn't make a sound.

Wang Le raised his arm above the car body to cushion the impact when she and the dog's heads were about to crash into it.

The shaking lasted for about ten minutes, and then the terrible gnawing sound stopped.

Where did it go?

Because the air conditioning was turned off, the temperature inside the RV began to rise slowly.

Fang Xiaoyu listened intently, her nose and forehead covered in sweat, and her back was also soaked, but she didn't rush to open the door to check.

Some animals are clever; they will pretend to leave, but actually stay in the same spot, quietly waiting for their prey to peek out.

Wang Le shared the same idea.

They stayed in the restroom for about ten more minutes, their clothes already soaked with sweat.

Suddenly the car lurched violently, and the next second the window shattered, and a dark bear's mouth shot into the car.

The eldest princess tried to whimper, but Fang Xiaoyu forcefully pushed it back down.

The black bear's head was too big to fit through the narrow car window, and it was accidentally cut by the broken glass. It howled and backed out, using its paws instead.

It accidentally snagged a string of spicy sausages on its paw.

The black bear was startled when it saw the food that had been unexpectedly pulled out. It lowered its head and sniffed in disbelief. This was the smell!

It tried taking a bite, and the next second its eyes lit up, and it hissed as it stuck out its tongue and quickly ate it clean.

The bear's paw reached in again, searching around.

Unable to find it, it got a little angry and started taking apart the car window.

Fang Xiaoyu listened to the commotion outside, her hand holding the kitchen knife slipped, and the hot sweat on her forehead turned into cold sweat.

One moment he remembered Wang Le's earlier words, "drive away," the next he saw the images of three robbers lying on the ground like tattered rags, and then he thought of the impending crisis.

Although her hands were trembling slightly, she still gripped the kitchen knife tightly.
