Chapter 61 Lin Meng strikes again

After a lot of trouble, the group finally started to work.

Lin Ran also breathed a sigh of relief. Being a brigade cadre is not easy. It feels more tiring than being a county magistrate!

After arranging these people who were growing peanuts, she still had to go check other places to prevent anyone from being lazy.

However, after a walk around, she found that everyone working in the fields was very hard-working, and it was rare to find someone like Lin Laosan who liked to be lazy and slack off.

Before she knew it, Lin Ran had walked to the cowshed, and then she remembered that their team had also assigned a few bad elements to come here to work and reform.

However, Lin Weiguo did not like to make things difficult for others, so he rarely dragged them out for criticism, but they still had to do the dirty and tiring work.

They should be cleaning the bullpen at this point.

Lin Ran remembered that two of these bad elements seemed to be university professors, and the others might be capitalists.

Having read history books, she of course knew that in two years these people would be rehabilitated and return to their original positions, and some might even become future leading figures.

She also knew that if she established good relationships with these future bigwigs in advance, it would definitely be of great help to her future development.

But Lin Ran has her own pride and disdains to curry favor. She believes that with her own abilities, she can make a name for herself even without help.

Thinking of this, Lin Ran also checked the hygiene of the cowshed in a businesslike manner.

When he saw the old man with a hunched back cleaning up feces inside, he just nodded slightly.

But the old man was very nervous when he saw her coming. His weathered face was full of fear and his clothes were tattered. He looked nothing like his former glory.

But in such harsh conditions, he still insisted on combing the few remaining strands of gray hair neatly.

A thin and sparse layer tries to cover the entire forehead, as if to maintain one's last dignity.

The old man is Meng Chengwang, a former history professor at Jingshi University, who is 52 years old this year.

Seeing Lin Ran staring at him, he thought he was going to be tortured again and sighed helplessly.

"I'll hurry up."

Lin Ran nodded indifferently.

"Where are the others? Why are you the only one working here?"

Meng Chengwang hurriedly explained:

"Old Man Yan went to get some hay. I'll lay it out as soon as I finish cleaning here. His wife isn't in good health and has been sick again these past couple of days, so we'll let her rest. As for the others..."

He paused before continuing, "The others may be busy elsewhere."

Lin Ran keenly noticed the loophole in his words, but she did not ask any further questions. She nodded and left.

Anyway, this group of people lived in a yellow mud house not far from the cowshed, and she would know where they were when she went over.

But before she took a few steps, she saw Lin Meng sneaking towards the yellow mud house with a basket on her shoulder. Seeing this, Lin Ran quickly hid behind a tree.

She wanted to see what tricks Lin Meng would come up with next.

Lin Meng came to the yellow mud house and saw that there was no one outside and the door was closed tightly.

But she could see figures inside through the newspaper window and knew that they were all in the house, so she went up and knocked on the door, but received no response.

After knocking for a while and still no one opened the door, Lin Meng finally realized the current situation of these people.

I guess these people thought I was here to cause trouble.

So he immediately shouted inside:

"Is anyone there? Don't worry, I'm not here to cause you any trouble. I'm here to bring you food."

But these words did not let the people in the house relax their vigilance, and the door remained motionless.

Lin Meng had no choice but to continue explaining:

"I know you're in there. I can see your shadows. Please open the door. I'm really here to bring you food."

Until then, there was finally movement at the door. A crack appeared from the inside, and a round-faced old man in tattered black clothes spoke through the crack to test the water.

"Are you really bringing us food? Where's the grain?"

Lin Meng quickly raised the basket in her hand.

"Grandpa, the food is here. I didn't lie to you."

The old man in black saw the sweet potatoes and wild vegetables in the basket through the crack in the door and was so excited that he opened the door without saying a word.

Lin Meng was overjoyed when he saw that the person finally came out.

But before she could start to make friends with him, the old man snatched the basket, closed the door and went into the house.

The whole action was done in one go, leaving Lin Meng no chance to react.

Soon, several excited voices were heard in the house.

"Show me quickly, what's there to eat?"

"I'm almost starving. Finally, I have something to eat."

But soon the people inside were disappointed.

"Why is that all?"

"That's right, just two sweet potatoes and a few handfuls of wild vegetables, enough for me at most."

"Forget it, forget it. It's good to have something to eat. Why don't we cook it now? I haven't eaten anything in the morning and I'm starving."

"Yeah, why don't we cook it now? I haven't had breakfast this morning and I'm starving."

"Okay, let's cook it now. It's a good time to eat while Old Man Meng and the others are away."

"Yes, yes, yes, Mr. Qian still has the best brains."

But after the excitement, someone reacted.

"Whose family is this girl from? Why is she suddenly sending us food? Is there any purpose?"

Some people don't care:

"What purpose could it have? What's there to be plotted against us in our current situation?"

Everyone thought about it and it seemed to be the same. They had already fallen to this point. Even if this kid wanted to make trouble for them on purpose, it was impossible for him to waste so much food.

Although everyone understood the situation, Mr. Qian was still worried and asked Lin Meng another question through the door.

"Girl, why are you bringing us food? We old guys have nothing but these tattered clothes!"
