The car door opened with a bang.
Shi Heng took a big step with his long legs.
He was tall and slender, with a stern face and deep, anxious eyes.
Shi Heng walked over to Gu Youran, took her hand, and said in a low but concerned voice, "Youbao, are you okay?"
Gu Youran shook his head, "Ah Heng, I'm fine, don't worry."
Shi Heng looked her up and down, and the worry in his eyes faded slightly when he confirmed that she was safe and sound.
However, when his eyes met his father standing beside him, a layer of frost instantly covered his face.
That look contained resentment and unwillingness.
More... disappointment.
He pursed his lips, snorted coldly, curled his lips, and without saying a word, reached out to pull Gu Youran away.
Gu Youran stood firmly on her feet, as if rooted to the ground. She pulled Shi Heng back and gently advised, "Heng, don't be like this. He's your father after all. Can't we just talk it out?"
Shi Heng paused, slowly turned his head, and stared straight at his father.
a long time.
He finally spoke, his voice low and hoarse, "What are you talking about? My mother and I left because we saw through the injustices in this family. Now I'm back, it's only for her."
As he spoke, he glanced at Gu Youran, his eyes filled with doting and determination, "As for this home, I don't have much attachment to it."
Shi Zhengyang stood aside, opened his mouth, and hesitated to speak. His face was full of guilt, as if he had a thousand words to say, but didn't know where to start.
The old lady heard the commotion in the hall and shouted through the door at the top of her voice: "Shi Heng, if you leave with this girl, don't recognize me as your grandmother!"
Shi Heng turned around abruptly and responded loudly, his voice revealing a hint of determination, "If you don't recognize me, then don't! Anyway, I've had enough of this family!"
After saying that, he pulled Gu Youran hard again, trying to drag her into the car.
He looked like he wanted to escape from this dangerous place immediately.
Gu Youran tried his best to keep steady, his eyes moving between the father and son, trying to find a chance to ease the situation.
She looked at Shi Zhengyang and said softly, "Uncle, I know there were many unpleasant things in the past, but it's not easy for a family to be reunited. We can't just give up. Let's try again, okay?"
Shi Zhengyang stood there, his body somewhat stiff.
Looking at his son's cold and distant eyes, he felt as if his heart was hit by a heavy hammer.
I had wanted to hide the complicated issues in the family from my son in advance so that he wouldn't have to bear more pressure at this critical juncture.
But that look was like a sharp knife, piercing straight into his heart, causing him so much pain that his eyes turned red.
Those words that he had originally buried deep in his heart wanted to burst out uncontrollably.
Shi Zhengyang came back to his senses, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. He took a step forward and said to Shi Heng, "Heng'er, Dad knows that I've wronged you and your mother this past year. Seeing you come back for this girl today, Dad also understands how much she means to you."
"Dad sincerely hopes you'll be happy, but you also know that the current situation at home is very complicated. There's probably a huge conspiracy behind the illegitimate child. The Shi family is in the center of the storm, and Dad hasn't figured it out yet."
"If you come back now, I'm afraid you'll be dragged into deeper trouble. Dad doesn't want you to suffer for no reason. Take Youran back to Yuncheng first. I'll call you back after I've sorted out everything. Okay?"
Shi Heng was slightly stunned when he heard this, obviously not expecting his father to say that.
The resentment in his eyes faded slightly, but he was still on guard. "Really? You're not... trying to calm me down and drive Youbao away?"
Shi Zhengyang smiled bitterly, his eyes slightly red, "Dad is not that confused. You are my son, I understand your thoughts, this girl has backbone, I also appreciate it."
"Dad sees your feelings for each other. But the situation is pressing, and I'm doing this for your own good. Just listen to me for once and don't come back."
Shi Heng was silent for a moment, then he let go of Gu Youran's hand and looked at his father. "Okay, I believe you this time, but if grandma still refuses to give in, I will take Youbao away and never come back."
Shi Zhengyang nodded quickly, "Okay, we'll discuss it slowly."
At this moment, the old lady's violent coughing sound came from the hall. She shouted through the door: "What are you mumbling about outside? Come in quickly!"
Shi Zhengyang looked at Shi Heng and Gu Youran and said in a low voice, "Go in first and don't make the old lady angry anymore."
Shi Heng stood still, looking at his father with a firm gaze, "Dad, I won't go in. You know that the grudge between me and the Shi family cannot be explained in a few words. Now that I'm back, I just can't let go of Youbao."
"Since you also want me to be happy, then don't let me get involved in this mess. Youbao and I are leaving. Once you have sorted out your family affairs, if you still miss me as your son, we can get in touch again."
Shi Zhengyang looked embarrassed and hesitated to speak.
In the end, he just sighed and said, "Okay, Heng'er, take care of yourself."
Shi Heng nodded, pulled Gu Youran and turned to walk towards the car.
Before getting in the car, Gu Youran looked back at Shi Zhengyang, her eyes full of expectation, hoping that he could resolve the family conflicts as soon as possible.
The car started slowly and drove away in a cloud of dust.
Shi Zhengyang looked at the car going away, feeling helpless and melancholy.
The lonely figure looked increasingly lonely in the wind, as if all the vitality had been drained away by time.
…
The car rushed out of the old house like an arrow.
Shi Heng gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, his knuckles turning white from the exertion.
The speedometer needle continued to soar, and the scenery outside the window quickly receded.
Gu Youran sat in the passenger seat, his heart in his throat.
She secretly glanced at Shi Heng's stern profile, her lips trembled a few times, but she didn't dare to say a word.
The car was speeding so fast that she subconsciously gripped the door handle tightly, and her palms were sweaty.
I don’t know how long I ran, but Gu Youran’s heartbeat became more and more rapid, almost jumping out of his throat.
Shi Heng slammed on the brakes, causing the tires to rub against the ground violently, making a sharp and piercing sound.
The car stopped steadily by the roadside.
Before Gu Youran could come to her senses, Shi Heng had already pounced on her and hugged her tightly with both hands.
The force was so strong that it seemed to want to rub her into his body.
He buried his head in Gu Youran's neck, breathing heavily, his hot breath spraying on her skin.
With deep nostalgia and reluctance.
"Youbao," Shi Heng's voice was a little hoarse and trembling, "Just now at the old house, I was so scared... I was really afraid that they would snatch you away from me. I never want to experience that kind of fear again in my life."
Gu Youran hugged him back, gently stroking his back with both hands, trying to calm his excitement. She said softly, "Don't be afraid. I'm here with you. No matter what happens, I won't leave you."
Shi Heng let go of her slightly, his hands still tightly holding her shoulders, staring into her eyes with a fiery gaze, as if the most precious treasure in the world was hidden there.
That look was full of trust and dependence.
And... the relief of having found what was lost.
