After hanging up the phone, Gu Youran's fingertips were still trembling slightly.
She rushed into the study and opened the drawer. Three copper coins were lying quietly inside, and they felt strangely warm to the touch.
She put the copper coin in her pocket, and when she turned around, the hem of her dress almost knocked over the celadon vase.
In the living room, Zhuoran curled up on the sofa, holding a medical journal in his hand.
Hearing footsteps, she raised her head and asked with concern, "Doctor Gu, are you going out so late?"
Gu Youran said as he put on his coat, "I have something urgent to do. I need to go to the antique market in the eastern suburbs."
"The antique market in the eastern suburbs?" Zhuoran frowned. "It's known as the Ghost Market. It's only open at midnight and specializes in trading shady items. Did something happen?"
Gu Youran shook his head. "I'm going to buy something there. My friend is waiting for me."
Zhuoran put down the magazine, stood up, and picked up the car keys. "I'll take you there."
As the night deepened, the streets became less crowded with vehicles.
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped outside the East Suburb Antique Market.
Gu Youran and Zhuoran got out of the car.
The market in front of us is shrouded in dim antique lanterns.
There were few people and scattered stalls.
According to the location sent by Fu Xinglang, the two quickly arrived at the stall.
"Sister-in-law!" Fu Xinglang suddenly jumped out from the shadows, scaring the two of them.
"Girl, you're seventeen minutes late."
Gu Youran looked in the direction of the voice and saw the old man sitting in front of the stall. His left eye was gray, as if covered by a layer of mist, but his right eye was unusually clear, as if he could see through people's hearts.
"Old man, can I take a look at that book?" Gu Youran asked directly.
The old man handed her an oil-paper bag without saying a word.
Gu Youran took the oil-paper bag, and the smell of agarwood mixed with rotten paper pages hit her face.
Her pupils suddenly contracted. This was clearly the Canaan incense specially made in her master's study!
She suppressed her inner shock, opened the oil-paper package, and revealed a yellowed ancient book.
Her fingers gently stroked the cover of the book. There were four large, blurry characters on the cover:
The True Scripture of Divination
Her heartbeat suddenly quickened. She opened the book, but found that there was no text inside, only a few pictures, and not even any annotations.
"Old man, your book is not fake, is it?" Fu Xinglang came over and took a look with suspicion.
The old man suddenly pointed his finger at Gu Youran's pocket, "Girl, why don't you try to unlock the door with the key in your pocket?"
Gu Youran suddenly looked up, eyes full of astonishment, "How did you know I had copper coins?"
The old man still smiled, "I guessed it."
"I'd never believe you." Fu Xinglang snorted coldly, very dissatisfied with the old man's answer.
Gu Youran took out the three copper coins from his pocket.
In an instant, the copper coin vibrated in the palm of his hand, making a slight buzzing sound.
Fu Xinglang gasped. "They're...resonating?"
Gu Youran suppressed his excitement and looked at the old man, "Old man, how much do you plan to sell this book for?"
"Fifty thousand, not a penny less." The old man stretched out five fingers.
Fu Xinglang immediately exploded, "Old man, you only sold me those three copper coins for 500 last time, why is this crappy book going for 50,000?"
"Do you know why the copper coins are only five hundred?" the old man said mysteriously. "Those three copper coins are the key, and this book is the lock. The lock is more expensive than the key, that's only natural."
Fu Xinglang wanted to argue, but Gu Youran raised her hand to stop him.
She looked at the old man and said, "I can give you fifty thousand, but can you tell me the origin of this book and copper coins?"
"This book, the copper coins, and the turtle's back were originally a set." The old man lowered his voice. "They come from an ancient family. Legend has it that when these three items are combined, they can unlock an ancient secret."
"What secret?" Fu Xinglang couldn't help but ask.
The old man shook his head and said, "This secret can only be known by those who have collected all three things."
The old man handed over the payment QR code, and Gu Youran scanned it and paid 50,000 yuan.
"Tortoise shells predict good and bad luck, copper coins connect yin and yang, and when the true scriptures appear in the world..." The old man suddenly lowered his voice.
Before he could finish his words, the figure disappeared into the night.
Gu Youran wanted to ask more questions, but found that there was no one in front of the stall.
Only a solitary lantern remained, swaying in the wind.
"This old man is so weird!" Fu Xinglang shuddered and muttered.
Gu Youran looked solemn and warned him, "Let's go. Don't come to places like this anymore."
The three of them left the antique market in the night and disappeared around the corner in their respective cars.
It was already one in the morning when Gu Youran and Zhuoran returned to the villa.
"Go to bed early." Zhuoran yawned and turned to go into his room.
Gu Youran walked straight to the bedroom.
She casually put the "Scripture of Divination" and three copper coins into the drawer of the bedside table.
After a simple wash, I went to bed and fell asleep quickly.
The moonlight came in through the half-closed curtains and fell right on her wrist.
The nine-star bracelet shimmered in the moonlight.
The room was silent.
Suddenly, the third drawer trembled and slowly slid open a crack.
Three copper coins floated out of the drawer, with a faint halo on the surface.
They rotate slowly in the air, making a slight buzzing sound.
The yellowed scriptures turned by themselves.
Some strange symbols flowed out from the pages of the book, turning into tiny spots of light and rotating around the copper coins.
The halo of the copper coin became brighter and brighter, and the speed of rotation became faster and faster.
The air suddenly became tense.
The three copper coins split into stars all over the sky, heading straight for the Nine Star Ring.
"Buzz—"
The golden light on the bracelet floated and then returned to silence in an instant.
