Chu Beiyuan turned his wheelchair and came to the window, looking at Mu Xuewei who was being interviewed in the garden downstairs.
She was wearing a simple dress and showing her engagement ring to the camera with a perfectly sweet smile.
"Xuewei is very sensible." Chu Beiyuan tapped his fingertips lightly on the armrest of the wheelchair. "She knows what to say and what not to say."
He turned his wheelchair to face his father, a perfect smile on his face.
"Dad, have a good rest. Remember to wear the suit I prepared for you tomorrow."
The ward door closed gently.
“Ding ding ding—”
The ECG monitor suddenly sounded a shrill alarm.
The hurried footsteps of medical staff came closer and closer.
"Hurry, rescue bed 302!"
At the end of the corridor, the sound of a wheelchair rolling over the ground was slow and steady.
Chu Beiyuan raised his hand to signal his assistant to stop, and tilted his ear slightly to listen to the hurried movement behind him.
Pause for about five seconds.
"Let's go." He said softly, "We have an engagement party to prepare for tomorrow."
The wheelchair continued to slide forward.
As the elevator door slowly closed, the cries for help could no longer be heard.
…
at the same time.
Office of the President of Shi Group.
Shi Heng leaned back in the black leather chair, tapping the tabletop lightly with his slender fingers, his eyes fixed on the tablet in front of him.
On the screen, Mu Xuewei was being interviewed by a financial reporter.
She was wearing an elegant white dress, with a gentle and decent smile, and the diamond ring on her left ring finger sparkled under the camera.
"Ms. Mu, tomorrow is your engagement party with Mr. Chu of the Chu Group," the reporter asked with a smile. "There's a lot of talk about this marriage. Do you have any response?"
Mu Xuewei smiled and said, "Business marriages are indeed prone to misunderstanding. But what I want to say is that the relationship between Bei Yuan and I has never been a pure union of interests."
Having said this, she paused at the right moment, her eyelashes trembling and drooping, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the ring.
This subtle movement made her expression more realistic.
"We treat each other sincerely."
She raised her eyes again, her gaze was gentle, and even the curve of her lips was perfect as if it had been precisely calculated.
Shi Heng's fingertips lightly swiped across the tablet, and the picture froze on Mu Xuewei's impeccable smile.
He narrowed his eyes and fixed his gaze on her finger which was rubbing the ring.
That seemingly sweet little gesture had a different meaning in his eyes.
"It's such a realistic performance." He murmured to himself with a hint of amusement in his voice.
Two figures walked out of the shadows.
On the left is Mark, who is as big as an iron tower. He was once the "living devil" of the underground boxing ring in Country M. He was rescued from the death row by Shi Heng five years ago.
On the right is Sim, who is as thin as a cheetah, the number one intelligence dealer on Interpol's Red Notice, who was subdued by Shi Heng in Country Y four years ago.
"Boss, Shadow's Old A is mad again." Mark said in a low voice, "He said you took away his 'sharpest double blades'."
Shi Heng didn't respond and continued to stare at the screen.
Mu Xuewei was smiling sweetly at the camera, and seemed to be genuinely looking forward to tomorrow's engagement party.
"Boss," Sim asked in a low voice, "Tomorrow's engagement party...will Miss Mu cooperate with our plan?"
"Won't."
Shi Heng turned off the video, his voice as calm as if he was discussing the weather.
Mark and Sim looked at each other in shock.
Mark clenched his fists suddenly, and his knuckles made a teeth-grinding cracking sound.
"Fuck!" His voice was rough, filled with suppressed anger. "Then what are we waiting for? I'm going now..."
"Calm down, big guy." Xim held his arm and turned to look at Shi Heng. "Why?"
Shi Heng stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
"Rather than taking revenge on Chu Beiyuan, Miss Mu wants to push me into the abyss with her own hands."
His fingertips tapped lightly on the window glass. "From the moment she came to see me yesterday, she has been weaving a big net that can trap both me and Chu Beiyuan."
Sim gasped, “Then why do you still want to cooperate with Miss Mu?”
“When the mantis stalks the cicada, has it ever noticed the yellow bird behind it?”
Shi Heng turned around and said, "Mu Xuewei thinks she is a chess player, but in fact she is just a chess piece on the board."
Mark's knuckles were white from pinching, and veins popped out on his thick arms. "Let me deal with this bitch."
"No need." Shi Heng raised his hand to stop her, "Let her finish this act. I need her to reveal her true colors at the engagement party, so..."
He paused, a trace of cruelty flashing in his eyes, "Chu Beiyuan will truly understand what despair is."
Xim hesitated, “But if Miss Mu is really at the engagement party…”
"Then you can't blame me." Shi Heng interrupted softly, his voice so gentle that it was creepy.
The temperature in the office seemed to drop to freezing point in an instant.
Even desperate men like Mark and Sim couldn't help but tense their muscles.
…
Six o'clock in the afternoon, in front of Yunding Restaurant.
Zhao Qiwen was standing on the steps in a neat dark blue suit, occasionally lowering his head to adjust his cufflinks, with an unconcealable smile on his lips.
Xia Ke next to him was wearing a pink tweed suit from Chanel that season, with slightly curled hair and newly bought diamond earrings on her earlobes.
She held Zhao Qiwen's arm, her cheeks slightly flushed with excitement, and she stood on tiptoe to look around from time to time.
"Qiwen, Dr. Wang and the others are here!" She gently tugged at his sleeve, her voice sweet.
