Inside the car.
Renault turned the heating up to full blast.
He turned around and pulled out a gray cashmere blanket from the back seat and handed it to Gu Youran, who was soaked all over.
"Wipe it off first, don't catch a cold. There's hot water in the thermos in the back seat, drink some to warm yourself up."
Gu Youran took the blanket and slowly wiped her wet hair.
I obviously have a lot to say.
But when the words come to my lips, I don’t know where to start.
In the end, I could only stare silently at the blurry rain scene outside the window.
Half an hour later.
A black SUV drove into an upscale residential area.
Gu Youran looked at the familiar scenery outside the window and suddenly sat up straight.
This is clearly the villa area where Shi Heng lives.
She subconsciously turned to look at Renault, who looked away calmly.
I chose this place specifically to be closer to her.
"We're here." Renault got out of the car first and walked around to the passenger seat to open the door for her.
The two walked quickly into the villa.
Renault took her directly to his bedroom on the second floor.
He opened the wardrobe and took out a white T-shirt and a pair of black casual pants.
"Take a hot shower first. Your clothes are all new."
After a pause, he added, "There are no women's clothes, so you'll have to wear mine for now."
As soon as the bathroom door closed and the sound of water was heard, Renault immediately turned around and went downstairs.
In the kitchen, he skillfully sliced the ginger, added brown sugar and simmered it over low heat.
"How rare! Our boss cooks for us personally?"
Lei Shuangcheng leaned against the door frame at some point, twirling the car keys in his hand with a playful look on his face.
Renault didn't even raise his eyelids, concentrating on stirring the ginger soup in the pot.
When the soup was cooked to perfection, he carefully poured it into a porcelain bowl.
He went back upstairs with the hot ginger soup, leaving Lei Shuangcheng standing there shaking his head and laughing.
When I opened the bedroom door, Gu Youran had already come out of the shower.
She was wearing his oversized white T-shirt, the collar hanging loosely to one side, revealing her slender collarbone.
The sleeves were long enough to cover half of her palm, and the hem hung down to the middle of her thighs, making her look even thinner.
The legs of his black casual pants had to be rolled up several times to avoid dragging on the ground.
She was wiping her wet hair with a towel, and water was still dripping from the ends of her hair.
Seeing Renault come in, she stopped and pulled the long hem of her dress awkwardly.
"Drink this."
Renault handed over the steaming porcelain bowl, "Brown sugar ginger soup, to ward off the cold."
Gu Youran took it, lowered her head to blew on the steaming ginger soup, and took a sip carefully.
The sweet and spicy ginger soup slid down her throat, slowly warming her body.
She hesitated for a long time holding the bowl, and finally raised her head. "How have you been these years?"
Renault's back visibly stiffened.
He turned and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling window. The rain drew winding water marks on the glass, just like the tortuous road he had walked over the years.
His voice was unusually calm. "My second brother died in the yacht explosion. I was supposed to test drive it that day."
"The fourth brother was caught in a gang fight while on an inspection tour in Country M and was hit in the back by a stray bullet."
"Lao Wu's private plane crashed into the sea, and the search and rescue team couldn't find even a single intact piece of wreckage."
Gu Youran's fingers unconsciously tightened. "Are these...really all accidents?"
"In the Leathers family," Renault turned and looked at her, "behind every 'accident' is the name of a brother."
He walked closer slowly, but stopped just before touching her, and just touched her hair lightly with his fingertips.
"Every day when I wake up, the first thing I do is check if the pistol under my pillow is loaded."
"How dare I go to you when I'm like this?"
Gu Youran's tears fell uncontrollably.
Looking at the man who is living in danger at this moment.
She suddenly realized how securely she had lived all these years.
“Don’t cry…”
Renault was suddenly at a loss, and his rough fingertips hurriedly wiped the tears from her face.
But I don't want to wipe more.
Gu Youran's sobbing gradually subsided until he gently held her in his arms.
"Tell me," he whispered, "Why did you call me so suddenly tonight?"
Gu Youran's body stiffened, and the face of Grandpa Shi Heng flashed through his mind.
If...if that old man was really the murderer of that bloody incident...
Her heart seemed to be gripped by an invisible hand.
"And you?"
She avoided the question and asked, "Have you found out the truth about what happened twenty-two years ago?"
Renault shook his head, his eyes dim.
"All clues are broken, as if someone deliberately erased all traces."
"After my father took me away..."
Gu Youran's voice trembled, "We were hunted all the way. When I woke up again, I was already at the gate of the Yuncheng Orphanage. I couldn't even remember my own name."
"I looked for your father," Renault clenched his fists, "but he seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth, leaving no trace."
There was a long silence in the room.
The bloody massacre twenty-two years ago cut short the innocent childhood of two children.
In my memory, there is little Youyou with pigtails, always jumping and skipping behind Renault, calling him "Brother Nono" sweetly.
Brother Nono, who would carefully protect her and wipe the pastry crumbs off her face.
They are forever frozen in that night with flames rising into the sky.
"Do you want me to... take you home?" Renault asked softly.
Gu Youran shook her head. "I don't want to go back... Can you take me in for one night?"
Too much happened tonight and she needed time to sort it out.
