Gu Youran unconsciously rubbed against Shi Heng's arms in her sleep, and her soft hair brushed across his arm.
Shi Heng suddenly froze in place, even his breathing became very light.
After making sure she was still asleep, he carefully pulled away.
In the study, Shi Heng turned on the computer and clicked on the email sent by Xim:
Lei Tingyuan, 87, currently lives in Room 307 of Yuncheng Nursing Home. He is in the late stages of Alzheimer's disease and has lost his ability to speak.
In August 2001, it was he who acted as a matchmaker and arranged a trip to Gujia Village for Mr. Shi, and provided the key black gold visiting card.
A photo is attached at the end of the email:
The old man in the wheelchair has sparse white hair, his cloudy eyes look blankly at the camera, and his face is full of wrinkles.
Shi Heng opened the drawer and took out the torn diary he got from Su Manyun.
On the yellowed paper, Grandpa's handwriting is still clear:
"Zhengyang's condition worsened, and he was locked in the basement. All the doctors were helpless. With Director Wang's introduction, I met Mr. Lei Tingyuan today. He gave me a black, gold-embossed visiting card from Gujia Village, saying that with this card, I can obtain life-saving medicine..."
Shi Heng's fingers began to tremble uncontrollably.
Twenty-three years ago, when my father suddenly fell ill with hemorrhagic disease and was on the verge of death, my grandfather was able to enter Gujia Village through Mr. Lei.
What is even more incredible is that the bottle of only twelve pills miraculously cured the dying father after twelve days.
He turned to the last page of his diary.
There was a text that he had read countless times:
"You must keep the appointment in three days. This matter concerns the survival of the Shi family..."
There is no further record.
"Bang!" The diary was slammed shut.
Shi Heng's eyes were deep.
Who is the mysterious person who is deliberately hidden?
Why didn’t you even dare to leave any clues in your private diary?
What role does Lei Tingyuan play in this?
One day has passed since the seven-day deadline agreed with Gu Youran.
Time is running out.
He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, there was only determination in his eyes.
Tomorrow morning, I must go to the Yuncheng Sanatorium in person.
…
At the same time.
Renault sat alone in the dim study, playing a video of Gu Youran singing on his tablet.
"The Jealous Man of the Domineering President", every line of the lyrics is like a knife, cutting into his heart.
He turned off the video irritably, tilted his head back and took a big gulp of whiskey.
The strong liquor burned my throat, but it couldn't quench the anxiety.
“Knock knock—”
"Come in."
Lei Shuangcheng pushed the door open and placed a brown paper file bag on the table.
"Just found out about the old man."
"My grandfather died in that fire twenty-two years ago." Renault said coldly.
Lei Shuangcheng didn't respond, but just silently took out a few photos.
The top one clearly shows:
In Room 307 of Yuncheng Sanatorium, a white-haired old man is resting with his eyes closed.
"This was filmed this afternoon." Lei Shuangcheng pulled up another video.
In the picture, the originally dazed old man suddenly looked up, his cloudy eyes became unusually clear at a certain moment, and he even nodded slightly at the camera.
"Bang!" Renault stood up suddenly and the wine glass fell to the ground.
"Impossible! I saw him die in the fire with my own eyes..."
"The one who died was a substitute."
Lei Shuangcheng interrupted him, his voice low, "The old man asked me to tell you something... 'Flying Eagle's chains are about to break.'"
This sentence was like thunder!
Renault suddenly remembered that when he was seven years old, his grandfather showed him a bronze seal mysteriously.
The flying eagle above is bound by nine chains.
The old man stroked his hair with his rough palm and said, "Remember, when the chains are broken..."
Renault studied the photo carefully.
Although the old man's face was full of wrinkles, his iconic sword-like eyebrows and the crescent-shaped scar at the corner of his left eye were clearly the grandfather in my memory.
"Why?"
His voice was hoarse, unlike his own. "Why did you pretend to be dead? Why now..."
"Prepare the helicopter." Renault grabbed his coat. "Let's go to Cloud City now."
…
The next morning, just as the sky was getting light, Shi Heng got up quietly and packed his luggage.
"Where are you going?"
Gu Youran rubbed her eyes and poked her head out from under the quilt, her voice still sounding sleepy.
Shi Heng paused as he was tying his tie. "I'm going to Yuncheng to do some business. I'll be back soon."
Gu Youran suddenly woke up, jumped out of bed barefoot and grabbed his sleeve, "I want to go too!"
"It could be dangerous." Shi Heng frowned.
"It would be more dangerous for me to just wait at home!"
Gu Youran tilted her little face up and pursed her lips stubbornly, "I'll be worried about you."
Shi Heng looked at her determined eyes and finally gave in. "Go change your clothes. The plane will take off in half an hour."
Three hours later, the private plane landed at Yuncheng Airport.
Mark and four bodyguards escorted Shi Heng and Gu Youran through the VIP channel and directly into the special car that had been waiting for a long time.
"Where are we going?" Gu Youran asked, looking out the car window.
"Cloud City Sanatorium. Going to meet someone who might know the truth of that year."
The car slowly drove into the quiet campus of the sanatorium and stopped in front of a white building.
Gu Youran keenly noticed that there were several bodyguards standing at the door with alert expressions.
"Sorry, only Mr. Shi and Miss Gu can enter." The leading bodyguard stretched out his hand to stop them.
Shi Heng nodded and motioned for Mark and the others to wait outside.
He held Gu Youran's hand tightly and said, "Follow me closely."
