Shi Heng walked in with a cold air.
"Talking about the wedding?" His eyes lit up. "I was just about to discuss this with my parents."
Tao Nianwan smiled and said, "Your dad and I were just talking about starting preparations after the Chinese New Year. Two months later..."
"It's been too long." Shi Heng quickly walked over to Gu Youran and sat down. "A month is enough."
Shi Zhengyang looked at his son's anxious look, and noticed the red tips of his daughter-in-law's ears, and couldn't help but smile knowingly.
He picked up the calendar on the table, looked through it carefully, and said, "March 11th, the Dragon Raises its Head..."
Tao Nianwan came over to take a look and said, "The old almanac says it's an auspicious day for marriage. What a coincidence."
Gu Youran lowered her head and took a sip of tea, then quietly raised her eyes to look at Shi Heng.
I saw him looking at me intently, his eyes full of expectation and tenderness.
"March 11th, it's settled." Shi Zhengyang made the final decision.
Upon hearing this, Shi Heng immediately reached out and held Gu Youran's hand which was placed under the table.
Gu Youran's face turned even redder, but she didn't pull her hand back. Instead, she shook it back.
Tao Nianwan took in all the little movements of the two, and a smile of satisfaction filled his eyes.
She deliberately cleared her throat and said, "Then we will start preparing starting tomorrow."
…
At the same time, in the villa study.
Lei Shuangcheng spread out a stack of documents on the desk.
"Sixteen years ago, at the Blues Rock Music Festival in H City, Country Y."
He pulled out a faded ticket with a line of scribbled words on the back:
[I must rush back to celebrate Youran’s birthday]
Renault reached out and picked up the ticket stub, and his heart suddenly tightened.
He seemed to see the little girl with pigtails, wearing her most beautiful dress, with candles on her cake, only to have the police ring the doorbell.
The ninth birthday should be a day for being held in arms and acting like a spoiled brat.
But she...
Lei Shuangcheng pushed forward another police report, "On their way back that night, their car fell off a cliff at the third sharp turn on the winding mountain road."
"Is it really an accident?" Renault's knuckles turned white, and the edge of the ticket wrinkled in his palm.
"Look at this."
Lei Shuangcheng took out a maintenance sheet and said, "A comprehensive maintenance was done the day before the accident. The brake system is in good condition."
He pointed to the twisted guardrail in photos from the scene, "But there were no brake marks at all where I fell off the cliff."
"However, the car was severely deformed after the crash, and all the key evidence was lost."
"What's even more bizarre is that the technician responsible for that maintenance..."
He slowly turned to the last page, which was a death certificate.
Cause of death: Acute liver failure
[Time of death: three days after the accident]
"All the clues end here."
Lei Shuangcheng closed the file, "But you and I both know very well..."
"This was not an accident at all, but a carefully planned murder."
Renault silently took out a small velvet bag from his pocket and poured out a crystal clear glass bead.
"This glass bead..."
Lei Shuangcheng shook his head helplessly, "When you asked me to go to the Yuncheng Welfare Institute to dig the day before yesterday, Dean Zhang thought I was crazy."
"Just because Doctor Gu casually mentioned that I buried glass beads under the big locust tree in the orphanage when I was a child, you insist on finding them?"
He looked at Renault concentrating on stroking the glass beads and sighed, "Boss, she is wearing the Shi family's wedding ring now."
The phone suddenly vibrated, and Lei Shuangcheng glanced at the message, "Lina is going to have a drink."
He stood up and patted Renault on the shoulder, "Emperor Club, do you want to go together?"
"No." Renault stroked the glass beads.
The study door closed, and he gently placed the glass bead against his lips.
This glass bead, buried by time for twenty years, is like the feelings he can never express.
Eventually, it will be hidden in the darkness forever.
…
VIP box of the Emperor Club.
Lina shook the red wine in the crystal glass, glancing at the door of the box from time to time.
With a "click", the door opened.
Lei Shuangcheng walked in alone.
"Just you?"
Lina's eyes dimmed instantly, "Where's Renault?"
Lei Shuangcheng sat down opposite her, picked up the whiskey on the table and poured himself a full glass, "He has something to do."
After saying that, he raised his head and drank it all in one gulp.
Lina drank the red wine in her hand in one gulp.
The cold liquid slid down my throat, but it couldn't extinguish the nameless anger in my heart.
Since they met briefly on the opening day of his clothing store, Renault seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth.
The two drank in silence.
Half an hour later, Lei Shuangcheng's eyes began to blur.
He suddenly chuckled and moved closer to Lina, "There's something... you may not know..."
The strong smell of alcohol hit her face, and Lina frowned subconsciously.
But I heard him say: "The boss's life... has begun to count down."
“Bang!”
The wine glass in Lina's hand fell to the ground, and the dark red wine spread all over the carpet.
"What did you say?" Her voice trembled a little.
"Seven months..." Lei Shuangcheng drunkenly held up seven fingers. "The flying eagle tattoo on his back... the color fades a little with each passing day..."
Before he could finish his words, he fell heavily onto the sofa.
Lina stood up suddenly, grabbed her handbag, and rushed out of the box with an angry face.
"Bang--"
The heavy wooden door slammed shut behind her.
Just as the door closed, Lei Shuangcheng, who was originally drunk, suddenly opened his eyes.
His eyes were as clear as usual, without any trace of drunkenness.
Lina returned to the villa, stood in front of the wine cabinet, and ran her fingers over the row of treasured Bordeaux red wines.
