Renault stared at the phone screen, his fingertips tightening unconsciously.
His heartbeat suddenly accelerated.
I didn't expect this woman to be serious.
Start making your “three dates a week” commitment today.
In fact, when he was in his room this morning, Lina's threats had no effect on him at all.
But for some reason, he still agreed to her request.
Perhaps it was the heartache in her eyes that touched him.
Maybe... he just needed a reason to let go of his twenty-year obsession with Youyou.
Renault looked at his watch and saw that it was only 47 minutes until six o'clock.
In the conference room, the CFO was still analyzing the quarterly data in detail.
He suddenly stood up and interrupted, "That's all for today. We'll continue tomorrow at nine o'clock."
He quickly left in the surprised eyes of everyone.
The assistant hurriedly caught up, "President, there's more later..."
"Let him go." Lei Shuangcheng stopped his assistant and quickly followed.
Inside the car, Lei Shuangcheng held the steering wheel and occasionally glanced at the Renault in the rearview mirror.
Of course he knew about the "three dates a week" agreement, but he didn't expect Renault to actually show up.
"Boss, last night Lina..." Lei Shuangcheng hesitated to speak.
"Just focus on driving." Renault looked out the window with a calm tone.
How could he not know that Lina's abnormal behavior last night was deliberately arranged by Lei Shuangcheng?
But he finally accepted this kindness.
6pm, Emperor Club.
Renault pushed open the heavy carved door, and the melodious sound of the piano immediately reached his ears.
In the center of the hall was a circular dance floor where several pairs of elegantly dressed men and women were dancing the waltz.
Renault's eyes quickly locked on Lina who was sitting in the corner.
She was wearing a dark green velvet long dress today, which made her skin look as white as snow. Her hair was loosely tied up, revealing her slender neck.
"You're here."
Lina looked up, her red lips curled slightly, "I thought you were going to stand me up."
Renault sat down opposite her and said, "I never break my promise."
"Yeah?"
Lina gently shook the red wine glass in her hand and asked, "Do you know what the date is about today?"
Renault remained silent, waiting for her next words.
"Dancing waltz with me." Lina put down her wine glass, a cunning gleam in her eyes.
Renault's fingers tightened slightly on his knees. "I can't dance."
"That's right, I will."
Lina stood up and extended her hand to him, "Come on, Sixth Young Master, there must be a first time in life."
At the edge of the dance floor, Renault stood stiffly, feeling even more nervous than the first time he held the gun.
Lina naturally pulled his right hand and placed it on her waist, holding his left hand.
His palms were warmer than I'd imagined, but they were too tense, as if ready to pull away at any moment.
Just like how he treated everyone over the years.
"Relax and just follow my lead."
The music started playing, it was a soothing song "Blue Danube".
Lina started to move, but Renault seemed to be nailed to the spot.
A man who is obviously decisive in the business world is hesitant at this moment because of a dance.
She suddenly remembered what Lei Shuangcheng said last night when he was drunk.
There was a dull pain in my heart.
"Left foot forward," Lina patiently guided, "Yes, that's it."
Renault tried to keep up, but stepped heavily on Lina's foot on the third step.
The pain made her eyes hot, but her smile became even brighter.
Compared to the twenty years of loneliness he swallowed alone.
What's this little pain?
Renault's ears were burning. "We can try something else."
"No," Lina shook her head stubbornly, "I want this."
On the second try, Renault found a little feeling, but stepped on Lina again when turning.
This time she couldn't help but let out a cry.
"sorry."
Renault immediately let go of his hand, frowning, "I told you I'm not suitable for this."
Lina suddenly laughed out loud, "The Sixth Young Master of the Rethers Family was actually stumped by a waltz."
She closed the distance between them again and said, "Keep going until you learn it."
On the third attempt, Renault focused his attention on the two men's footsteps.
The faint scent of Lina's perfume lingered on his nose, calming his heart.
Strangely enough, he made almost no mistakes this time.
"See, you did it." There was surprise in Lina's voice.
Just when Renault was about to breathe a sigh of relief, the music suddenly picked up the tempo.
He lost his pace again, this time stepping directly on Lina's toes.
"Ah!" Lina bent over in pain.
Renault hurriedly supported her and said, "Let's stop here."
He half-supported and half-carried Lina to the sofa in the rest area and squatted down to check her injuries.
Lina's high heels were half taken off, and there was a clear red mark on the back of her white foot.
"I'll go get an ice pack."
Renault stood up, but Lina grabbed his wrist.
"No," she shook her head. "I'd rather know why you agreed to my date request than that."
Renault was silent for a moment and sat back down beside her.
"Maybe it's because no one has dared to make demands on me for so long."
Lina chuckled, "Should I feel honored?"
Renault didn't respond.
"Still dancing?" he asked, pointing to the dance floor.
Lina blinked, "How many more times do you want to step on me?"
"For the last time," Renault stood up and held out his hand, "I promise."
This time, when the music started, Renault's movements were much smoother.
Although he didn't fully master the complicated dance steps, at least he didn't step on Lina's feet again.
The two of them slowly spun on the dance floor, and the lights and crowd around them seemed to blur.
