Gu Youran lost her balance and fell into his arms.
The brush drew a crooked mark of ink on the paper.
"It's written wrong." Shi Heng whispered in her ear.
The hot breath tickled her ears.
He held her hand and added another stroke to the word "合" (he) which was used to write flowers, turning it into "永合" (yonghe).
Gu Youran looked at the two names that were close to each other on the paper.
And the tip of his ears turned red because of the changed character "永".
Shi Heng’s embrace is very warm and makes people feel particularly safe.
At lunch time, Gu Youran walked into the study carrying a bowl of hot dumplings.
“Try this.”
She handed the white porcelain bowl to Shi Heng and said, "I made this especially for you."
Shi Heng took the bowl, scooped up a glutinous rice ball and put it into his mouth.
The bitter taste of Coptis chinensis spread across his tongue, but he didn't even frown.
This is the medicinal food that Gu Youran specially prepared for him to treat his stomach problems which have worsened recently.
"Is it sweet?"
Gu Youran suddenly leaned closer, and her pink tongue gently swept across the remaining medicine residue at the corner of his lips.
Shi Heng's eyes darkened, and he grabbed the back of her head with his big hands and was about to kiss her.
"Cough...um..." A light cough was heard at the door.
Shi Yining stood there with a mischievous smile on his face, "Mom asked me to call you to dinner."
Gu Youran blushed and dodged.
But she heard Shi Heng whisper in her ear, in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Continue tonight."
Shi Yining walked away quickly, and when he turned around, he quietly sent a WeChat message to Si Wenjie:
Come to my apartment tonight to celebrate the New Year's Eve. It's too boring at home.
After lunch.
In the yard, Shi Heng was standing on a stool to paste Spring Festival couplets.
Gu Youran stood below to help him adjust his position.
She looked up at the horizontal banner on the red paper that had been specially changed to "Yonghe", and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
Dusk falls.
The sound of firecrackers could be heard from afar, and the aroma of stewed meat wafted from the kitchen.
The sumptuous New Year’s Eve dinner filled the entire round table.
Gu Youran brought out the snacks she had made herself.
The candied angelica fruit is crystal clear, and the astragalus biscuits are golden and crispy.
When Shi Heng's hand reached for the candied fruit for the third time, Gu Youran couldn't help but smile.
Shi Yining noticed this scene with his sharp eyes and jokingly said, "How strange! Ah Heng never ate sweets before."
There was silence at the table for a few seconds.
Everyone's eyes looked back and forth between the two of them.
Although there are bound to be some frictions on weekdays, everyone is immersed in the festive joy at this moment.
The old lady smiled and tried to smooth things over, "Young people always change."
Gu Youran sat next to Shi Heng, feeling his warm hand gently covering hers.
Looking at the happy scene in the room and listening to the laughter one after another, her eyes suddenly became hot.
Shi Heng's fingers gently scratched her palm.
It’s as if he’s saying that every year from now on, we’ll celebrate the New Year together like this.
At this moment, Gu Youran truly felt the warmth of home.
The sound of firecrackers outside the window, the smell of food on the table, and the warm palms of people around you.
All of this made her realize that this was the feeling of a real home that she had always longed for.
…
The other side.
One o'clock in the afternoon, in front of John Hospital.
Two bodyguards had already opened the door of the black Mercedes-Benz and were waiting respectfully on the side.
"Seven o'clock in the evening, don't be late." Renault reminded.
Lina nodded, "Okay, I'll come over after I change my clothes."
After saying that, he bent down and got into the car.
Renault stood still and watched the Mercedes-Benz leave.
"Sixth Young Master, what do you need to prepare?" Lei Shuangcheng appeared behind him at some point.
Renault looked away and said, "Take out the bottle of 1982 Lafite from the cellar."
He paused, then added, "Order another bouquet of red roses. Not too many, just nine will do."
This was their first New Year's Eve dinner since they met.
It was also the first time in twenty-two years that Renault had made such careful preparations for a woman other than Gu Youran.
…
At six o'clock in the afternoon, the villa was brightly lit.
Renault is setting up the restaurant.
"A little higher on the left." Renault instructed the bodyguards to hang up the last red lantern.
Lei Shuangcheng came out of the kitchen carrying a fruit platter.
Seeing my boss pull out his phone to check the time for the third time, I couldn't help but make a joke.
"Sixth Young Master, you look more nervous than when discussing a 10 billion yuan order."
"Shut up."
Renault glared at him, but subconsciously adjusted the roses in the middle of the dining table.
This was the first time in 22 years that he prepared the New Year's Eve dinner by himself.
Every dish on the table was Lina's favorite.
Although he would never admit that he wrote it down on purpose.
Time seems to pass very slowly.
Renault walked to the floor-to-ceiling window again, his fingers stroking the edge of the phone.
Outside the window, the street lights in the villa area lit up one after another, but the familiar red sports car was nowhere to be seen.
"Do you want to make a phone call and ask?" Lei Shuangcheng handed over a cup of hot tea.
Renault took the teacup and said, "Wait a little longer."
The antique clock struck seven.
Renault's phone suddenly lit up.
A video request from an unknown number bounced on the screen.
The moment the screen was swiped, the picture shook violently.
The camera swept across the concrete floor and finally stopped at Xu Bo who was chained.
The blood on the old man's forehead had already coagulated, but he shook his head desperately when he saw the camera.
"Happy Chinese New Year." Ryan appeared on the screen and the camera turned to the right.
Lina was tied to a rusty steel pipe, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth but she raised a familiar sneer, "Oh, you're late, Sixth Young Master."
