The two got into the car and the black car drove away from the Si family's old house.
Si Wenjie looked at the house getting farther and farther away in the rearview mirror and asked, "Yining, did you enjoy the performance?"
Shi Yining held up the car window with one hand and gently pinched his fingers with the other, "Not as ruthless as your last knife."
She chuckled softly, her fingertips tracing his tense jawline, "I'm afraid the old man won't be able to sleep tonight."
Si Wenjie sighed, "That's perfect. Let him understand how I got through it all those years."
The night was dark and the car was speeding on the empty streets.
Shi Yining glanced out the window and said, "This is not the way home."
"I'll take you to an old place." Si Wenjie stepped on the accelerator and the car sped up.
Half an hour later.
The car stopped outside the gate of Beijing No. 1 Middle School.
It was late at night and the campus was quiet, with only the street lights casting a dim glow.
Shi Yining was stunned. This was their alma mater.
Si Wenjie walked around to the passenger seat and opened the door. "Let's go inside and take a look."
Shi Yining's heart skipped a beat, and she let him lead her to the edge of the playground and stopped under the old ginkgo tree.
"Remember? Senior year of high school, you called me a 'nerd' here?"
Shi Yining's eyes widened. "That's because you lost the notes I worked so hard on!"
Si Wenjie smiled and took out an old notebook from his pocket. "Actually, I found your notebook that year and never returned it to you."
He turned to the last page, "Because my name is written all over it."
Shi Yining's face turned red.
“Yo——”
Suddenly, there was a whistle behind me.
